I've had your Tommyknockers experience, where I didn't like a book that much on the first read, but appreciated it much better on the second.
Kandice wrote: "What is the difference between SIDFI and ROPOTO?"Ah, a very astute question. It's actually more about the difference between novels and other kinds of books. Books of short stories and nonfiction books are things I can dip into here and there so those can be ROPOTOs, whereas novels pretty much need to be read from the beginning, so those are always SIDFIs. 😊

But experiences like this do make you a bit more humble about evaluating books, when you see, not just how different one person's reaction to a book can be from another person's, but how different your own reaction can be from yourself at a different time, in a different mood, with a different attitude or approach.
My Tommyknockers experience, though, has been an extreme version of this ... this novel literally changed status from "first SK book I didn't like" to "one of my all-time-fave SK books".
Was your experience with a Stephen-King book, or something else?

Me neither. For me there is a big age effect (first reads were as a teenager). But the better understanding of the messages and themes in the books did make me quit some of them because all of a sudden they were too horrific for me. Hahaha
So true. I have not nearly read all of them but i think the books he wrote in the last decade are different from those he wrote at the beginning.
