Young girl set to take the throne of her kingdom is made to escape because a family member wants to take the throne, she will die. Leaves behind a best boy friend who is a servant? Goes to live with an aunt or hermit witch lady in the plains and is unwelcome, has to learn much to make her way, her host is not a kind or just teacher. She learns about gathering herbs and deying with plants and over years learns from top to bottom how to gather wool and spin it into thread to weave a magic cloak. Spoiler: lady turns out to be her aunt I think?? There may be more than one book.
