Andrew | 6 comments An old (maybe 40's to 80's Sci-Fi novel set in a British/English village. A UFO has landed in the village pond and submerged An dome has suddenly been created and it completely isolates the village from the outside world.

I suspect is was written by a British author.

It was written well before Stephen King's "Under the Dome" story.

That's all I can recall.

Thanks.

Genesistrine | 578 comments John Wyndham's The Midwich Cuckoos has the village of Midwich cut off by a dome that makes anyone in it passout, but it only lasts a day.

How long did the dome last in the story you're looking for?

Andrew | 6 comments Before posting I came across John Wyndham's The Midwich Cuckoos and I'm sure it wasn't the book I recall.

I believe the dome or energy field lasted a long time.

Andrew, around what year did you read this book? A range of years is fine.

Is this book for adults or teens?

Following up on rockabilly's suggestion, here is Wikipedia's page on John Lymington - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Ly...

Andrew | 6 comments The book must be "A Sword Above The Night"
by John Lymington. It doesn't quite match my description but it definitely sounds like a forerunner to "Under the Dome".

Many thanks for your help.
