Guarding Her Heart (Crystal Creek #1) by Laura Haley-McNeil Guarding Her Heart by Laura Haley-McNeil in PDF form
This book was so exciting for me. I was so taken in by the characters and story line. Some of the romantic thoughts got a bit boring and repetitious, but the suspense was great. Some of it was sort of choppy as there was sort of 2 plots going on at once. Victoria being stalked by some crazy serial killer and her father missing from his yacht. Romance was clean. I felt for as exciting the story was, the ending fell a bit short for me. I had hoped more to be played out between the stalker and Victoria. I guess I will have to read the next one to see if it all comes together.

When Love Comes in Disguise by Carol Colyer When Love Comes in Disguise: A Historical Western Romance Book by Carol Colyer on Kindle. ARC
Ellen and Alice have been the best of friends growing up in an orphanage together in Boston. Alice has accepted a marriage proposal by a man in Texas she has never met. Because the two are inseparable, Ellen will go to Texas with Alice to try and get her situated in her new life. Alice's husband Jeffrey does not want Ellen living with them. So Alice, being the adventurer, comes up with a scheme to keep her close to Alice once she is married. Ellen will dress up as a male and work on the ranch. Ben is Jeffery's main rancher and hopes someday to have a ranch of his own. Ben runs into Ellen in town while she is buying men's clothing but doesn't know about it. He finds her alluring and attractive. Ellen, aka, Allen work well together, and Ben is teaching the new green horn about ranching. When Allen changes back into Ellen to visit Alice, Ben always seems to be at the house. They have an attraction towards one another, but Ellen isn't ready to divulge her true identity. Confused yet? This book had many twists and turn and suspense. How and when was Ben going to discover the truth? The author did a wonderful job describing some of the ranch life and how hard it really is through the workings of a woman. How clever. I thought it was fun to read. A sweet, mail order bride romance. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 review is because editing issues on Kindle. But I would still recommend it.

Secret Crush (House of Morgan, #1) by Victoria Pinder Secret Crush by Victoria Pinder in PDF form
The story line was good and was suspenseful, but got lost in all the lustful thoughts and descriptions. I felt Alice, for being an independent character, became sappy and immature with John. I enjoy spicy romance if the story line is solid, but I found the lust to be too repetitive. Reading how he smelled was boring to me. Alice was so scarred, but her thoughts were always on sex. Didn't find it realistic. I also didn't care for the ending.

The Heiress of Epsom Her Lady's Heart by Hedley J. Huntt The Heiress of Epsom: Her Lady's Heart by Hedley J. Hunt on Kindle
Lady Caroline is the only daughter of Lord Zachary Catoghan, Governor of Epsom. Her father is matching her for marriage with Lord Finley Rashford. Someone Caroline detests. She runs into an old acquaintance, someone she has cared for since childhood, Lord Oliver Russell. Of course, Oliver is no longer known as a Lord after is father squandered away everything by gambling, leaving the Lord Catoghan stripping him of his home, status, etc. Sparks fly in all ways for the two of them. Her social status and his disgrace bring turmoil to their relationship. I found this story a fun, clean, romance. Many twists and turns and a fast read. I enjoyed Caroline's independence and the way she stands up for herself and Oliver.

Highlander Ready for Sin by Lydia Kendall Highlander Ready for Sin: A Steamy Scottish Historical Romance Novel by Lydia Kendall on Kindle. ARC
Laura Stewart has lived a horrible life. Watching her mother being murdered when she was a child and then being thrown into a monastery for her remainder days. She has to escape and live her own life and find out who her parents were. Fergus MacCarthy has been being trained to be Laird all his life by his unemotional, uncaring, strict father. But by rescuing the English Laura, he finds his life is about to be turned upside down. He promises Laura he will help her find her father and protect her for someone who is chasing her. The characters of this story are well defined and believable. The author made me feel like I was right there in the midst of the story. Friendship, spicy romance, mystery and suspense and a someone coming into their own, made this a wonderful story. It was a different twist to a historical Highlands romance and one I enjoyed reading. Leading up the end was exciting and unexpected. I would certainly recommend this book for adults.

Wicked Wager (Georgian Romance #1) by Beverley Oakley Wicked Wager: A Georgian Romance by Beverley Oakley in PDF formStory of a Georgian woman who is destined to marry her cousin of which she abhors. She is getting used for many unscrupulous activities by many different people. She is innocent and finds herself falling for the rake of whom was one of these people have set her up with. This book has many characters, but the all seem to meld excellently together. It's hard to tell who the good guys are and who the bad guys are until the end. It has a touch of spicy romance, mystery and suspense. I felt it could have been condensed some as it dragged in places and I found myself scanning over parts. But all in all, a fun read.

Dawn | 199 comments So I couldn’t figure out exactly where I wanted to post this question, this thread seemed as good as any. I was listening to Romancing the Shelf today with the Podcast in Death gals. They discussed the similarities between the Night Tales series and In Death and whether that series was the was the precursor for In Death. I have not read any of these books, and need to add to my Nora challenge books. There are very few actual reviews and the only one who mentioned the audio, only said the narrator sounded like a phone sex operator. It did not say if that was a good or bad thing.

So the question is two part. Has anyone listened to the audios and if so what did you think? Was this series a series you enjoyed and would read again?

They really had some compelling arguments. The books are out of print, so I am either getting the audio or paying $7 for a kindle version. I may check the local library, but that seems unlikely on a 30 year old book

When A Maid Captivates His Heart by Aria Norton When A Maid Captivates His Heart: A Historical Regency Romance Book by Aria Norton on Kindle. ARC
Lady Maxine Montague has her maid Rose dress up as a noble to go out into society to find out more regarding her ex-fiancé and his new wife. Lady Montague was left humiliated when Lord Glenburn ran off with another lady right before their wedding. Rose is wondering what will be gained by doing so, but she has been the Lady's maid for many years and is devoted to her. Rose is a lovely young woman, intelligent and witty, but not of the same class. So when she befriends a handsome Duke, she dreams of what if would be like to be with such a man and have a dream life. But she knows that is not possible. Yet, she continues to sneak out to meet with him. But everyone knows this will all come crashing down when she is discovered. This was a wonderful clean story. A fast read with some suspense and mystery included. The characters were strong and most of them likable. I felt the historical part got lost at times though. At the balls, if you danced with someone more than twice, you were usually engaged. Some of the wording and furnishing descriptions were not period correct. I felt the book could have been condensed and still be a good story. I felt I was skipping over thoughts and descriptions to get to dialogue. But all in all, a delightful story.

Cowgirl Fallin' for Her Best Friend's Brother Western Romance (Brides of Miller Ranch, N.M. Book 5) by Natalie Dean Cowgirl Fallin' for Her Best Friend's Brother: Western Romance by Natalie Dean in PDF form
A sweet romance story. Cici has had a crush on her bestfriends brother, all of her life. So when she returns from college for her bestfriends wedding, she discovers that those feelings are still there. Baz is also home for his sisters wedding, but more so because his girlfriends and business partner were cheating on him. His heart is vulnerable. Yet he finds little Cici Miller is no longer the little girl he babysat along with his sister. Both are hesitant in letting the other how they feel for many reasons. I have enjoyed all the books in this series, yet I didn't feel this one was as good as the rest. It felt thrown together. If you hadn't read the other books in the series, you would have been lost on the other characters in the book. This is the final story of the Miller brides and I was somewhat disappointed in the story. Author did such a great job on the others so it is hard to see it end so flat. I would like to see what happens to all of them after they have all connected and what happened to Papa and the Librarian in the future. I felt hanging for a series ending book. But, it is still a nice summer read.

The Silvered Duchess of Oldingham Manor by Hanna Hamilton The Silvered Duchess of Oldingham Manor: A Historical Regency Romance Novel by Hannah Hamilton on Kindle. ARC
Lady Odile Walker was an obedient daughter to her sick father and her sister Harriet. Getting close to spinsterhood and her sister being married before her, her awful uncles has her to marry the so called worse person before he dies and her uncles becomes Baron and takes everything from them. Frederick Pinkerton, the Duke of Oldingham is a mysterious man with an unseemly reputation. So Odile is quite afraid of what is to become of her. To her surprise, they seem to get along quite well. But someone is now trying to kill the new Duchess. This was a great story line but I felt it was lost with so many characters to keep track of, lack of knowledge of the time, repetitive dialogue and descriptions. The characters didn't seem well defined. I would have liked to known more about their pasts. i found the dialogue to be too sweet and sappy for me. Much duplication of dialogue and descriptions in the story. I quit counting how many times "dearest" was used. I didn't care for it.

If We Never Met (Whisper Lake #5) by Barbara Freethy If We Never Met by Barbara Freethy on Kindle. ARC
Another wonderful story by Barbara Freethy. I have not read any others in this series yet, but I didn't feel like I was missing story lines. This could be a stand alone book. I really enjoyed how Dante and Keira meet. Keira is an ambitious, generous and loyal to her mother and her friends. Dante is a major league baseball pitcher who is in Whisper Lake for therapy and rehab for a shoulder injury. Two people who are thrown together by a chance meeting. Throw in some mystery, suspense and a begrudged ex model for some interesting times. It flowed very well. Characters are well defined and strong. The only cons I could find was ending. I really wanted to read more about the Hannah's wedding after all of the hoopla proceeding it. Got a bit too "sappy" in some places for me. All in all a great book. I would certainly recommend it.

A Duchess's Scandalous Adventure by Henrietta Harding A Duchess's Scandalous Adventure: A Historical Regency Romance Book by Henrietta Harding on Kindle. ARC
A story of how a broken axel on the Duchess and her aunts journey home, throws her and a mere farmer together. Andrew is a hard working farmer who comes to the aide of Lady Teresa Colborne and her aunt when their carriage breaks down by his farm. The roads become impassible when a heave story goes through. Needing to wait for Andrew's friend Lucas to get through to get the parts needed to fix the axel, the women are made to stay in Andrew's home. He knows it is improper for them to be staying there as from what he can see, they are certainly upper class. Rose, the housekeeper/cook is far from pleased they are there. Lady Teresa is enjoying the country life and being away from her demanding parents and her soon to be arranged betrothed, whom she despises. Lady Teresa has taken it upon herself to help with chores and learn about farming from Andrew. After the two become attracted to one another, she is learning much more steamy intimate things also from Andrew. This book was very enjoyable and the characters were strong and amusing. Lady Teresa was more courageous then she believed she was. The only negatives were, editing issues and the repetitive dialogues and description. A spicy, romantic and sometimes funny book. I would recommend it.
