Kelly | 976 comments Hey I'm Kelly and I live in New Zealand. This is my third year doing Uno, and it has actually inspired me to take part in more team challenges and I'm currently doing another two on facebook! My favourite genre is urban fantasy, but I'll read almost anything. My most anticipated books are the three coming out by Seanan McGuire (my fav author) and her Wayward Children series are pretty good blue/green colour covers - I've used them in the past for Uno.

message 104: by Sara (new)

Sara Hollingsworth | 643 comments Hi, I'm Sara! This will be my second year doing Uno. I really loved playing this last year and thought it really helped me get out of my reading slump. I'll read just about any genre but I really love fantasy of all subgenres.

message 105: by Gwen (new)

Gwen | 316 comments Hi, I'm Gwen and I played Uno last year - I'm really looking forward to playing again! I read all kinds of genres but my favorites are post-apocalyptic, YA, fantasy, historical fiction, some sci-fi, and just good literature. I don't read much romance but that's about it. I'm excited to start the game!

Emilienne (petitnez) | 68 comments Hello everyone!
I'm Emilienne and I'm in France (well, Gustaf, -11°C on Monday, it was freezing).

I play here and there but I've never played BINGO (well, not this version ^^). I love team challenges so, here I am, thanks to Helke.

I might need help from time to time but I can't wait to start this one (waiting for the scavenger hunt to start...).

Oh and I read mainly MM romance (99% of my books?)

What I'm waiting for? The next series of Hazard & Somerset by Gregory Ashe. I'm dying.

A few recommendations, maybe:

Red:
The Rational Faculty (Hazard and Somerset A Union of Swords, #1) by Gregory Ashe
The Merchant of Death (Playing the Fool, #2) by Lisa Henry

Blue:
Icecapade by Josh Lanyon
Cross & Crown (Sidewinder, #2) by Abigail Roux

Green:
Dead in the Garden (Grasmere Cottage Mystery #1) by Dahlia Donovan
Shock & Awe (Sidewinder, #1) by Abigail Roux
Police Brutality (Hazard and Somerset A Union of Swords, #2) by Gregory Ashe

Laura Hi everyone!
I'm Laura from Belgium.
I have never participated in a team reading challenge but I'm super excited!!
I read a lot of historical fiction and fantasy but I really enjoy nearly all genres, except maybe religious things.
I already made a list of (too many) books I want to read this year so fingers crossed that I'll be able to fit them to the UNO prompts :)
Some of the books I'm really looking forward to reading in 2021 are the Familiars The Familiars by Stacey Halls
The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
Pachinko Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
and the Themis Files trilogy Sleeping Giants (Themis Files, #1) by Sylvain Neuvel Waking Gods (Themis Files, #2) by Sylvain Neuvel Only Human (Themis Files, #3) by Sylvain Neuvel of which I read the first one a few years ago but never got around to the rest.
I will also be rereading the Harry Potter series (for the 100000th time) but in French this time so that'll be fun!
One recommendation for a blue book: the Midnight Library The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
I just read it and it was so so good! Loved it so much.

When I first played UNO last year, I wasn't sure about the rules coming in but I think you'll be able pick it up quickly. It's a lot of fun.

Hi Gem,

Correct.

Only books started after the Countdown to UNO (1st Feb) is up can be used.

You can consult the rules under the "All about UNO-thread", but also your team captain will alert you.

alex (alexthebookish) Hey, I'm Alex! I'm super excited, this is my first year doing this challenge. Can't wait to do some reading!

message 121: by [deleted user] (new)

My name is Caroline.

I have never participated in a team challenge before, as I just made my Goodreads account at the beginning of the year.

I have never joined UNO before (once again because I just made my Goodreads account)

My favorite genres are YA fantasy and sci-fi. I am a huge Brandon Sanderson fan! His book Skyward is my absolute favorite!

I can't wait to read The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson (I just bought it and it arrived a few days ago).
The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1) by Brandon Sanderson
Also, I want to branch out and try some contemporary. I tend to dislike them because the cheesy teenage romance is torture enough in real life, I don't need it in my books. However, if anyone has good recommendations...I'll try anything once.

As for colored books,
Flamecaster (Shattered Realms, #1) by Cinda Williams Chima Flamecaster (red)
Shadowcaster (Shattered Realms, #2) by Cinda Williams Chima Shadowcaster (blue)
The Crimson Crown (Seven Realms, #4) by Cinda Williams Chima The Crimson Crown (red)
The Exiled Queen (Seven Realms, #2) by Cinda Williams Chima The Exiled Queen (blue)
Deathcaster (Shattered Realms, #4) by Cinda Williams Chima Deathcaster (yellow maybe)
This Savage Song (Monsters of Verity, #1) by Victoria Schwab This Savage Song (red)
Our Dark Duet (Monsters of Verity, #2) by Victoria Schwab Our Dark Duet (blue)

I am so excited for this challenge!!!

message 122: by Elena (new)

Elena Akgül | 73 comments Hi to everyone! I am Elena. I've never played this challenge before. Actually I heard about this challenge from a friend, and it seems really interesting. I am eager to participipate!
I love thrillers and crime novels, but I've been into classics lately too. Basically I can read anything :)
My recommendation for the color red is The Name of the Rose, The Chemistry of Death
color yellow: Half of a Yellow Sun
color blue: American Dirt

message 123: by Frida (new)

Frida (butthenyouread) | 329 comments Hellooo
I'm Frida! I've been on GR for years but this is my first team challenge of any kind. Not to sound like a gushing schoolgirl but oh my GOD this sounds so exciting, I can't wait.
I do enjoy reading historical fiction, but honestly I'll read absolutely anything. I always prefer writing over plot.
I've never really paid attention to cover colors before so I don't have any recommendations on that this year. But hopefully for my second UNO round next year I'll be more helpful.
happy reading everyone!

Question for anyone willing to answer, do you have any recommendations for other reading challenges? I don't think I'll start a second one right away, but maybe in March, or at the latest when this challenge is over, I'd like to join another. Preferably on Goodreads though!
Thanks <3<3

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 871 comments Frida, there are so many group challenges because there are so many groups!

I am a moderator in two groups - A Million More Pages and Game Night. Both of these groups will have group challenges starting up in May (for AMMP based on the show Wacky Races) and June (for Game Night based on The Amazing Race).

There's also For Love of a Book (they have fun no-time pressure team or partner challenges), and NBRC (they have different team challenges throughout the year - some are high pressure, some are more relaxed).

Just check around and you'll find a bunch.

Nanci | 1864 comments Greetings all!
I am Nanci from Virginia and I have played in every UNO challenge! I enjoy many challenges on GR, but UNO is my favorite because it's pretty low key, you can read any book genre you like, you meet lots of great new people, and it's just so much fun!

I am volunteering again this year to be a co-captain. I have co-captained or captained every time and I look forward to being part of another great team in 2021! Don't sweat it if you're new to the challenge. Everyone is super helpful on GR and happy to help out with questions!

Ashley | 121 comments Hey Im Ashley! Currently living in New Brunswick, Canada. This will be my second year playing UNO. Last year it helped me reach my reading goal per month. I enjoy anything really but my top fav would have to be psychological thrillers. I also enjoy a romance novel here and there.
After reading the synopsis of The Midnight Library by Matt Haig from a recommendation here, I now really would like to read this in 2021!
My recommendation for a blue cover is Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon .. Although it is a long book, I enjoyed it :)

Zoë (zeeohee) | 645 comments Yay! So excited that I am checking in in time. I feel like very year I remember this at the last minute or after the fact. haha. This will be my second or third year doing the UNO challenge, I believe. I have done a bunch of team challenges over the past 3 or 4 years and love them. They keep me motivated and also help me branch out to other genres or books I might not have picked up otherwise.
My favorite genres are fantasy, mystery, thriller, literature, and poetry.
The book I am most looking forward to this year is probably Erika Johansen's Beneath the Keep. A prequel (#0) in the Queen of the Tearling series. It is also a great red cover! Beneath the Keep (The Queen of the Tearling, #0) by Erika Johansen
Otherwise I would say Slade House by David Mitchell Slade House by David Mitchell
