What are you reading? - 2021
People in the group who have read Bird Box, without spoiling it, would you say it is accurate to say it is a dystopian dealing with pandemics? Thank you in advance,
The management.

I would say yes

That's just me saying "yes". If you want to read it for next year's challenge (Site 24 About), you'd better be sure Janice says yes too.
I wanted to have someone's opinion before putting it down as a possibility for the task. I'll probably only report it if after reading I think it fits the task and also if Janice agrees.
I don't remember it being a pandemic in the same sense as a virus. I could be wrong though because it's been a few years since I read it and I don't remember the cause of the problem.

It have been in my TBR for ever, so if I decide to go with that that task I will probably give it a try and see.

(Site 2, location).

If Janice is saying pandemic, as in virus, then I'd say no.
Janice - end of book spoiler (view spoiler)
If you enjoy Jodi Picoult's writing, she has a new book out that just published today. It is about the Covid 19 pandemic -Wish You Were Here.
I agree Kristie. I peeked at the synopsis for book 2 to confirm that, and it wasn't a virus. (view spoiler) Sandra, I'd recommend you read it for Site 2, location, child under 5.

I would say it is. Can't remember how the task is worded but a pandemic doesn't have to do viral.

Sorry, Margo. Janice already said no. If you look up the definition of a pandemic, it is "an epidemic of an infectious disease that has spread across a large region...", so this book doesn't work.

Oh sorry, I should have read more comments!
I finished Cross Bones and have one book left to finish badge 3. I'm so excited!I will start the group themed read today and read a book of my choosing, Murder at the Vicarage.
I just finished Wish You Were Here
. It was really good, but took a turn that I wasn't expecting and I still don't know exactly how I feel about it. 3.5★ rounded up.My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished my final book for the museum challenge. Yay, badge 1! The book was Piranesi and I really enjoyed it.So now my life feels super weird. Both my group read and monthly challenge books are on audio, so my paper reading can be whatever I like. I feel lost without guidance from challenges! How am I supposed to pick next from hundreds of books?
Yeah but, then I have to select even 5 titles instead of just 1. It might even make it harder!Maybe I should focus on getting some paper books out of the way, to make room for new ones ;-)

I hope I'm not going to regret this, but I'm going to start Written in My Own Heart's Blood.I think it's been in my shelves soon after since it was published (2014, yikes!). I read the last book in the series in August 2016, so over 5 years ago. I hope there's enough of a recap woven through the story so I don't feel lost. Also, I rated that one only 3 stars even though all the others in the series were 4 or 5. And it's almost 1200 pages, and I want to finish it before the end of the year, because I like to start a new year with a new book.
Wish me luck!
I finished These Silent Woods which I enjoyed. I've also been listening to The New York Trilogy. I have only the last book to go. So far so good.
I also plan to start today The Violent Bear It Away by Flannery O'Connor for December challenge.
Finished my second book of the month. Another 3.5★ read. I'm working my way through my back reviews and hoping to finish my yearly challenge this month as well. I have high goals!
The Maid reviewI'm now reading Darkness Falls, which is the 3rd book in the Kate Marshall series by Robert Bryndza and The Thursday Murder Club. I hope to finish The Thursday Murder Club today (or maybe tomorrow) and then start my re-listen of A Christmas Carol.
No, I don't believe so. This book doesn't publish until January. It's about a young maid who would have been diagnosed with Aspergers when it was still a diagnosis. She struggles with social interactions and reading facial expressions, is quite literal, and enjoys cleanliness and rules. Her grandmother was raising her and helping to explain social situations. When her Gran dies, she is left to figure it out on her own and gets tangled up in a murder mystery at work. From what I've read, the tv show is about a young mom who is escaping an abusive relationship and becomes a housekeeper in order to avoid becoming homeless with her daughter.
I think the titles and timing are just coincidental.
Yes, me too. It's romantic, not the genre I mostly pick up, but it's about Japan too and actually good at the moment.

I loved Piranesi too, such an unusual story!
Congrats on your badge 😊
I'm reading Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and also rereading Dark Matter so I finally read Recursion.
The classic Graham Greene novel, The Quiet American, is up there with my favourites. Vietnam in the early 1950s - what a mix of people and a mess of politics and war, plus a love story.

I've enjoyed some real winners in the Amazon Original Stories series, but this was not one of them. Oh. What. Fun. by Chandler Baker seems to have amused other readers. Not me.

I finished The Lincoln Highway - didn't enjoy it as much as his others. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Also finished Rice, Noodle, Fish: Deep Travels Through Japan's Food Culture - loved, loved it! My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I've not read American author Lily King before, but I sure enjoyed her collection of short stories, Five Tuesdays in Winter. I do love finding new writers I like. 😊

I read TTMC and liked it. Old people in a community full of other retired people.....I could relate. I have a hold on book 2.
