Katrisa | 4460 comments I finished Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland and found it fascinating - in a gut-wrenching kind of way.
Then - not on purpose - the next book I chose also touches on "The Troubles" as the MC grew up In Co. Sligo near the border. The Secret Scripture

Jayme | 4519 comments I'm reading The Devil and the Dark Water The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton . It's really good and fits a couple museum categories in the Yearly challenge:
museum 10 - about: Read a book set in the seventeenth century (1601 - 1700) 1634
museum 17 - collection: Read a book about people who's work is derived from the sea. shipping

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments That's it. I'm giving up. I picked up Suite Française again. I have been reading this damn book since the May Challenge. And I do not care. Everyone is horrible and boring. I figure they have had 7 months to pull their socks up, and they have failed.

NEXT!

LOL! Definitely one for the bin then.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished Fire Touched on audiobook. This is my least favourite of the series so far.

I'm going to start The Sin Eater's Daughter. I got it for free from Audiosync a couple of summers ago. I'm not sure I'll enjoy it, but it fits a slot in my museum challenge.

uncomfytomato | 265 comments I just got Sadie from audible. This will fit the task since the author is Canadian :) I will be listening to it today~ I've heard great things about this book

Maybe if it hadn't been 2020? Oh no! You can't take all your priceless vases with you from Paris WHILE IT'S BEING FRICKING INVADED! Or, my orphans from poor families won't listen to my sermons while we're walking on foot out of Paris as IT'S BEING BOMBED! Or my husband is nice but not the hot solider boy who was in the attic after NEARLY BEING KILLED BY GERMANS or the nice German solider billeted with us while we ARE OCCUPIED BY GERMANS.

... Priorities? Maybe?

Have this one on hold at the library. It will probably be a while before I get it.

Kristie | 19137 comments I'm putting Prodigal Son aside. It's good, but I miss listening to the audio and I'm going to end up buying it anyway because Craig is also listening to the series. So, I'm just going to have to review it late because I really want to listen.

I am currently reading If It Bleeds and I'll be starting The Good Sister soon for the rose theme.

I will start LaRose for the group themed read. It also has a spot on my museum challenge.

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished The Sin Eater's Daughter and it is finally off my tbr list, all 2 stars of it.

Tomorrow I will start The Next Always. It's a badge 2 book that I need to get it out of the way so that I can count the second book in the series towards badge 1. Kind of topsy turvy.

Oh, bummer. Well, hopefully you've gotten it out of the way and now you will have better reads.

message 82: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I won't be reading any of the sequels. I was curious though, and checked out some of the reviews of the second book. One person hated the second book and commented that she was glad she'd never read the first book since it had a worse rating. She couldn't imagine how bad it must have been.

I would never have picked it up if it hadn't been a freebie from AudioSync.

I had no idea this was a thing! And I've been on the site since 2011! I am going to have to do a year in review too, it looks like fun.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I finished Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents and rated it 5 stars. It is a MUST read, in my opinion. I decided to use it for the challenge of the month, since I don't think I will have time to read my original pick.

I will start today The Glass Woman. I fits one of my interactive task in the year long challenge, so I am very excited.

message 87: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished reading Ready Player Two this week for my museum challenge. It was just as good as RPO, but you already know the characters, so you get MORE trivia. I do not want to spoil anything, but I thought the ending was great!

I am currently listening to the seventh Outlander book, An Echo in the Bone. I am amazed at how long I can go between books and the minute a new one starts, it feels like I just left the last book the day before. I love listening to Davina Porter's voices for the characters.

I am reading a "return" story to one I read several years ago for another yearly challenge. It is Ayesha: The Return of She. This is an old, old sequel to the first story, She: A History of Adventure, published in 1887 - that has never been out of print since. I love the language!

message 90: by Ayacchi (last edited Jan 16, 2021 08:33AM) (new)

Ayacchi | 1722 comments Coincidentally, 5 out of 6 books I'm currently reading, the characters are moving out. 3 of them are about diversity, and 2 books have significant characters with tourette syndrome. My favorite among them (so far) is Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus, where an armless girl had to move school and bears the staring from her schoolmates and the town people. The good part is that her family always encourage her, showing her that she's normal in her own way and that sometime they envy her for being able to do things with her feet. Also, they always push her to do everything on her own, so she need no help from others and be independent.

Sharon Hopper | 2419 comments I am reading Usher’s Passing by Robert McCammon. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1.... It is for one of the books in my Museum challenge. Taking place in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina, it is appropriately creepy as it follows the curse of Usher.
