Kristie | 19366 comments It's happened a few times now that I've purchased something after recommending it to the library only for them to end up getting it months later.

I looked it up and the other two on got on sale. One was $6 and the other in a buy one get one, so I don't feel too bad about those, but I used a credit for this one. Ugh. I will probably just keep it since Craig will likely listen to it as well. It's just annoying that they got it just hours after I bought it and the coupon sale ended.

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments At least your library is listening to you. I don't know how receptive my library would be since I've never tried. The Regional Automation Consortium might be more receptive since there is an option to request that they acquire a book you search for. I'll try it next time I search and get the notice.

message 253: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I request a lot. Some they get, some they don't. Sometimes it is a long wait before they decide to purchase something I've requested. I wonder if they wait for a certain number of people to request before adding a book they hadn't planned on. That's my best guess. I tend to request early, before they publish. That way I'm automatically at the top of the hold list (or close to) when they get it.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I was in a thrift shop today and picked up The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden and Taal is zeg maar echt mijn ding

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments I found City of Girls at an Op Shop on Kangaroo Island as I got distracted by a dog/cat/8 year old/bobcat driver/combination of above at our friend's place and I forgot to pack enough shirts so I needed to find something to wear and found a book.

And I came home this afternoon to find The Collapsing Empire had been delivered.

message 257: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments I hope you enjoy the Interdependency Series Rusalka.

I picked up Trell which was one of this week's freebies from Audiobook Sync .

message 258: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments Thanks Janice, on many levels. Needed a "Empire" in the title option so now seemed like a great time to source it.

message 259: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments I think you'll enjoy Kiva. She's an irreverent character if I ever met one.

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments I've been buying books! Argh!

I got my coupon and I got:
The Silent Patient
The Last Green Valley

I had $0.52 left over which was applied to today's daily deal,
Heroes: Mortals and Monsters, Quests and Adventures

Kristie | 19366 comments I just contacted Audible and got my coupon. :) Now to decide what to get. I received $5 and I have 5 options. Two cost $4.86, so would be free. Three others would cost a little in addition.

Ted Bundy: The Horrific True Story behind America's Most Wicked Serial Killer
Jeffrey Dahmer: The Gruesome True Story of a Hungry Cannibalistic Rapist and Necrophiliac Serial Killer
Dark Path +2.34
Wish Me Home +2.34
Swamp Santa +2.99

I would probably go with one of the true crime ones - my daughter has gotten me into a true crime podcast lately. So creepy but fascinating!

message 264: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments Chirp had The Deathless Girls on sale today. I decided to give it a try because I really loved her writing in The Mercies

message 265: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I bought The Last Green Valley from Audible also. I really liked the author’s previous book, Under the Scarlet Sky.

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments Cherie wrote: "I bought The Last Green Valley from Audible also. I really liked the author’s previous book, Under the Scarlet Sky."

I have it on audiobook too and haven't read it. I have Under the Scarlet Sky on my challenge. I'm going to read The Last Green Valley next month and it will also fit the challenge under one of my interactive tasks.

One of the things that drew me to this book is that it is set in Ukraine and concerns the German Russians. That is my ancestry, so I'm eager to read a book from that point of view. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

message 267: by uncomfytomato (new)

uncomfytomato | 265 comments I bought Call Down the Hawk on kindle for 12.99 which is unfortunate since the hardcover is on sale for 9.99

I already pre-ordered the second book and want to finish this quickly before I get it on 18th of this month. Shipping takes a long time so I'd rather have it instantly on kindle and not have to worry about shipping fees

I got the 80% sale offer kindle email but none of the books look worth it, some are 2nd in a serious which is a great trick to get you to buy the first and waste more money haha

message 268: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments Audible has another 2/1 credit sale that ends tomorrow. I got Summer of Night and Heart's Blood.

message 269: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I picked up the whispersync deal of The Drowned Girls.

I'm hoping to have some time to choose books from the sale. I saw a few that I'm interested in, but I don't want to use all my credits. This is the disadvantage of getting the 12 credits per year instead of 24.

message 270: by Saar The Book owl (new)

Saar The Book owl | 2664 comments I've bought The Terror at Book Depository and Black Beauty: Puffin Clothbound Classics and The Cat and The City in my favorit bookstore.

message 271: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments Anyone having problems with Audible today? I'm having problems searching for books; it tells me they don't exist. I am also only getting two books in each genre showing up in the sale. Even the "All Categories" option only shows 8 books. It's making it very difficult to choose books from the sale.

message 272: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments I haven't noticed any problems but then I still don't have the sale banner. The only way I knew of it was that someone provided a link to it in the Audiobook group.

message 273: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I thought it might be my browser, but I tried a different one and still had the problem. Someone in one of my FB groups mentioned the issue too and a couple other people jumped in to say they were also having trouble, so at least I know it’s not just me. I hope they get it fixed soon since tomorrow is the last day.

message 274: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I got 4 books in the sale. Three of them were already in my wishlist.

Ink & Sigil
Radical Acceptance: Embracing Your Life With the Heart of a Buddha
Before She Disappeared
A Constellation of Vital Phenomena

There were a couple of others I was interested in, but honestly I was just too frustrated with the technical issues to bother looking for more.

message 276: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19228 comments The Last Colony just turned up in the mail.

message 277: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I picked up today's daily deal from Audible, The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysett.

While I was there, I figured I'd try one last time to find titles in the sale and they were there, so I also picked up The Diabetes Code: Prevent and Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Naturally and The Paris Dressmaker.

message 278: by Katrisa (last edited May 16, 2021 07:29PM) (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments I did the same thing Kristie! I went to grab The Brilliant Life of Eudora Honeysettand decided to check if the sale issue was fixed. Yesterday I was driving between camping places and had spotty cell service so I thought that was the problem with seeing the sale books. From the sale I ended up getting
Heart's Blood
Wild Seed
An Untamed State and
Sandman Slim

message 279: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I almost grabbed Sandman Slim, Katrisa! It sounds really interesting, but I think it was just a little darker than I was in the mood for while purchasing.

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments Kristie wrote: "I almost grabbed Sandman Slim, Katrisa! It sounds really interesting, but I think it was just a little darker than I was in the mood for while purchasing."

I read the first book and liked it well enough. But dnf the second because it was darker than what suited me. Usually dark doesn't affect me, so maybe it was just the frame of mind I was in at the time. I could reread it, but then I'd need to reread the 1st one and there are too many other books out there waiting to be read.

message 281: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments I've been shopping this morning. $10 has netted me 4 books. I can justify that.

Audible has a sale - Five Days of Five Dollar Deals Each day the books are swapped out for new books. This could be very dangerous. Here today, gone tomorrow.

I got Macbeth: A Novel which is a retelling of the class. I listened to the sample of Alan Cumming's narration - SOLD!

I also got the first 3 books of the Leveling Up series on Kindle ($1.00 each):
Magical Midlife Madness
Magical Midlife Dating
Magical Midlife Invasion

There was a discussion in another group of a new genre: Hot Flash - fiction geared to older women. I was intrigued enough to make a note of some of the books. When the first 3 books of the Leveling Up series was offered on Kindle this morning at $1.00 each, I snapped them up. It looks like a fun series.

message 282: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11685 comments I picked up The Shape of Darkness and Time of the Twins in the audible uk sale.

message 283: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4558 comments I checked out the first book in that series, Janice. I loved that the character was 40. Yikes! That means I'm almost done with my second half.

message 284: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I picked up The Hollow Places and The Daughters of Foxcote Manor from the sale. I'm considering Little Disasters as well.

I'm going to look into that series, Janice. I am finding that I enjoy fiction with older MCs. I clicked on the first one and it is free with Prime, but I'd have to return something else. However, for just $.99, I may just go ahead and buy it.

Roz, I didn't notice that she was just 40! That is not an 'older' MC. Somehow I didn't think of 40 when I read midlife. lol

message 285: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I just quickly read a bit of the sample of Magical Midlife Madness and it looks like it's going to be funny, so I picked up the first three while they're on sale as well.

And I added Little Disasters to my Audible purchase because why not. This is the hardest part of a sale that changes every day. You have no idea if there will be nothing else that really interests you or a dozen books in a couple of days.

I think it was free with Kindle Unlimited. I don't see that it was one of Prime's selections - at least in Canada.

message 288: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments Yes, just the first one was available through Prime, as well as Unlimited. At least it was here. I still bought it though. Prime is really just a rental. You can only have 10 books at once, then you need to return one before getting another. I have no idea when I'll get around to this one, so I figured for $1 I might as well just buy it.

message 289: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments You can't go wrong with $1.00. :)

message 290: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments I got two from today's sale - one was on my wishlist and the other was pure cover love.

What's Left of Me Is Yours
Master of Sorrows

message 291: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I'm happy to report that there is less tempting me in today's offerings. lol I am still considering The Lost Girls of Devon.

message 292: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments Someone posted on FB's Hear For It group that today's selections were lackluster. The first two immediately landed in my cart. I was tempted on a couple others as well. I didn't find them lackluster at all.

message 293: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments Both of your choices sound interesting to me, Janice. I wouldn't have stopped to consider them because I hadn't heard of them before. I tend to skim through the sale and stop on covers/titles that catch my attention or books that I've seen around. I think opinions of the sale likely depend on what looks familiar to you or catches your eye, so lackluster to one person may be intriguing to another.

message 295: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4508 comments I was less interested in most of the books in audible's sale today. I did get A Dream Called Home as I really enjoyed her other book The Distance Between Usand this is the continuation of her story.

message 296: by Janice, Moderator (last edited May 25, 2021 08:37PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments I didn't get anything today. While there were a couple that appealed to me, I decided to pace myself.

message 297: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I was more tempted by today's options! lol I actually had 8 in my cart at one point and had to narrow it down. I ended up getting:

The Love Story of Missy Carmichael
Hush Little Baby
Nell and Lady
The Big Finish - I've really been wanting to read this and have it planned for the yearly challenge. I almost didn't get it because I wasn't sure if I loved the audio and my library has the physical copy, but I figured I'd give it a try.

I also got the whispersync deal for Miss Janie's Girls.

message 298: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60166 comments The Big Finish sounds interesting. I hope you enjoy it.

message 299: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments Thanks, Janice.

message 300: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited May 26, 2021 02:52PM) (new)

Kristie | 19366 comments I ended up just getting The Bright Side Of Disaster from the Audible sale today. I almost skipped today since I got 4 from the sale yesterday, but I really liked the book I read by Katherine Center previously (Things You Save in a Fire), so I figured I'd give this one a try.
