I cancelled my Lanzarote Christmas :-( We have Plan B restrictions in place here now in the UK due to omicron. It meant I would have had to pay for covid tests in Lanzarote and here plus self isolation. I couldn't justify spending £100 on covid tests which may be closer to £200 if rules come in on tests into Canarys. It was stressing me out, so many hoops to jump through. So I cancelled. I lost a bit of money and I still need to take the holiday in the next 12 months. So it's Christmas at my parent's and Aunt's with my cousins instead. I was disappointed but I'm actually getting excited about Christmas again. Well, unless Boris decides to cancel it again that is.

Sorry to hear you had to cancel your vacation, Sarah, but I understand. It is not supposed to make more stressed. Better to go when you can enjoy it better.

We watched too - well the TV was on, Pete and mum watched and I was in the room LOL Not a fan myself ;-)

London numbers are scary and I doubt that we will be very far behind. Our powers that be are meeting today to decide our christmas fate but I've already cancelled all my socializing plans :-(
Oh I'm so sorry, Sarah. But sounds very sensible and much more cost effective. I hope you have a lovely Christmas with your family, and get to enjoy the holiday when the weather warms up.I am watching your numbers intently. My cousin in Yorkshire came back positive on the weekend. I did the only thing I could do which was send her the entire Jane Harper catalogue as she is a massive detective/mystery/crime reader too, so she has to get better to read them all. Guilt over our to read pile is all we need to be stubborn enough to beat this virus lol!
lol, Rus. We must have goals. I really enjoy Jane Harper's stories. That was a nice gift for your cousin.
That's a bummer, Sarah, but I'm sure you'll have a wonderful Christmas with your family. I hope you have a second chance next year.
This was a fun day! Client with issues started it off. Then this afternoon I drove to the pharmacy to get my flu shot and Covid booster. I was only inside for about 10 minutes but when I came out, the car wouldn't start. It's bitterly cold here. -24C with windchill to -36. I had to call CAA for a boost, and then I drove to the repair shop and bought a new battery. Prices have gone up! I'm home and snuggled up under a blanket. I think it's a hot chocolate kind of night.

Sorry to hear about your rubbish day Janice. I think I must have gotten all your good luck! I'm just back from town - my first time driving myself since I broke my ankle, no problems finding parking spaces - and the atmphere was great. I was only at the doctor and pharmacy but both were full of happy, chatty people. It's the most social experience I've had in 3 months LOL
I have to say that the receptionist was very helpful. She wanted to go out and give me a boost. I had to insist that I had CAA coming and was taken care of. She said she wanted to help me, so I told her that she could help me by lending me an iPhone charger because my phone was going to die. There was a man in the waiting room and he was very chatty about the weather and cars not starting.
Fortunately, the vehicles on both sides of my car left just in time for the tow truck to arrive and he could park right beside me. So things worked out quite well.
Thanks guys! Great get well gift Rusalka!
Sorry to hear about the rubbish day Janice. wow that is chilly! we've actually had it very mild here so far.
I'm heading to Bristol tomorrow to wander round the Christmas market, do a bit of last minute shopping perhaps and take in the Christmas atmosphere.
My advent calendar is going well, occasionally getting frustrated with it. Luckily there is a hint book lol
Work has been really quiet these last couple weeks and will be next week, clients keep rearranging for the new year. we have a work from home order in place but it's only 'where possible ' so I'm still see face to face clients. For now. If lockdown happens, I'll have to stop. So hopefully that won't happen.

WOOHOO!!!!
Sarah wrote: "woo Esther! I finish on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to some time off. Do you have plans?"So far I have been working. So it is "vacation fail" for now. But I am not planning much. A bit of renovation/repair around the hose and plenty of reading and knitting. We will see how social I can be.
I hope you can enjoy your vacation, Esther :) I went Christmas shopping yesterday with my son and I just wanted to hide. It was so crowded! December is always a busy month for us: with 'Sinterklaas' on December 6th, Sander turned 9 on the 14th and then Christmas with my grandmother and New Year's Eve with some friends.I just want to curl up in my sofa with a book and let things pass.
Also, I have to prepare for 2 big exams and I'm not looking forward to it.
Good, actually. I've got my first exam of Ethology, but no scores yet. I really need to make a more serious planning, because now I study 2 hours a day, but that's not enough. Next month I've got Anorganic Chemistry, theory and practicum, but I'm a bit scared of this one. It's a lot. We only have lessons on Friday, but these are practicum lessons. So, all the theory courses we need to study at home, but we have close contact with the teachers and there's an online community of the academy for regular students and distant students where every course has it's own community with documents, presentations, etc. So, that's a big help too.

Good luck Saar! Sounds full on but sounds like you are pretty across it all :D Besides the exams, are you enjoying it?
@Peggy: thank you. I'll need it ;)@Margo: mostly live animals, but they are not patients yet. We learn how to handle them. We had snakes (python, etc.), bearded dragon, snapping turtles, gekko, guine pigs, rabbits, all sorts of birds (and I got bitten twice!). In the second semester we'll see horses and sheep. We visit also animal clinics, shelters, zoo's...The dogs will be dummies to learn on and we got vivisection too in the second semester. The real patients are coming in the 2nd year.
@Rusalka: thank you. It's a lot, but it feels I'm in the right place. I'm enjoying it at the fullest and had the feeling that I needed to make the choice long ago. I'm just a bit late ;)
I'm happy to hear you are enjoying it, Saar! Of course it is extra work, and nobody likes exams, but it sound like you are doing wonderful, specially because you still think you made the right decision. Way to go, girl!
Saar, it seems like you made the right choice. Exam and study time are a lot to manage, but it is worth it.
@Sandra: thanks for the kind words :) I'm still expecting my first score, so I'm a bit nervous.@Esther: indeed. I'm no pro at making a planner, but the difficult way works too ;)

Wow, that sounds so awesome. I don't know if I could cope with the surgery side, I'm a bit of a woose :-O

@Margo: well, the surgery side will go fine, I think, but it's the dissection that will get me all woozy.@Rusalka: thank you. That means a lot ;)
I've just received my result for my exam Ethology and I've got an A!! I still can't believe it. So, an A means 14 or more on 20. During the year you get a letter as a score. At the end of the academic year you get your results in numbers. So, it's waiting until then for my definitive results.

My wishlist has gotten way out of control. Gone are the days of a piece of paper in my purse with 5 or 6 titles on it. Now, I have a shelf with over 1400. I've decided to be radical about it. I created a new exclusive shelf and moved some titles I don't want to lose. The other shelf is going to get deleted. I just have to hit that delete button now. I'm just a bit hesitant.
It says that the books will remain as my books but will be shelved as "read". I tried to delete it, and got an error message. I think I may have to delete manually. Yikes!
Oh no, Janice. That is annoying. There should be a way to delete a group of books like that. I need to go through my shelves and doing some s[ring cleaning too.
It took me 2 hours to delete the books on that shelf. The problem is that it's an exclusive shelf. If you delete it, the books get added to your "read" shelf. Don't ask me why. Goodness. I tried to do a batch edit, but you can only delete about 30 books at a time. I've decided I need to be ruthless. I'm going to weed out a whack of series too. I'm just stressing myself out because I think I need to read all these series. I've got way too many listed in which the last book read in them was years ago. For example, I read the first book of in the Chief Inspector Garmand series in 2013. What makes me think I will even finish the series? I'd have to reread the first book to refresh my memory. So time to set them free.
