It always makes me so happy when it's early spring and you see the first flowers popping up :)

Ooh exciting Rusalka, it has been a long time coming. I remember when you first got the hive. I hope the journey goes well and they transfer ok when you get them home. For some reason when you were talking about fall bulbs Sandra I thought you were talking about fairy lights. Until I read on. Haha I might think about pots of flowers this year for my boat. I have a nice deck area that I could put some. I had a hanging basket this year but lost it to hot weather and a storm haha
Peggy wrote: "It always makes me so happy when it's early spring and you see the first flowers popping up :)"Yes! I love flowers in summer, and I've been trying to plant native bee friendly ones, but the first ones in spring are my favorite. They pop up at the right time, when you think you will not survive another day of cold weather.
Sarah wrote: "I had a hanging basket this year but lost it to hot weather and a storm haha"Last summer was nasty for plants, flowers, vegetable and everything. Too cold, then too rainy and then too hot. Totally forgettable.
I have been doing NaNoWriMo this month (fun fact: The Way of Kings was a NaNo book) and it has been... interesting. I am a little behind schedule due to the fact that I couldn't write for two days but once I reach my 2,000 word goal for today, I'll only be behind 807 words so that's good. :) I've written 27,197 words so far which I have learned is both more and less impressive then you would think.

I ended up driving with a cat on my head for a very long 10 minutes. Judging by the faces of people that passed me, it was hilarious.

I have snow....
So sorry Esther, but I'm visualizing it and laughing so hard!@Abby: what's NaNoWriMo again? I think I get the wrimo but not the nano.
NaNoWrMo is National Novel Writing Month and I call it NaNo because it takes less time to say and write. :)
We only had some flurries last week. Usually the first big snow is closer to Christmas. But you two a way northern than us.
Roz wrote: "Life in your household is definitely interesting, Rusalka. Never dull."Hah! I'm glad I entertain ;) Always something happening

But I agree with the people passing you, what a sight that must have been :D
This guy would have ripped an ear and half my face off, so very glad your passenger was much more benign even though also a Houdini!
We all survived! I was two ratchet straps and a piece of newspaper away from a swarm in the car, but we got there. I didn't realise how slim the margin was until I released them at home. The chickens were confused at the buzzing box, but seem to have lost interest. The bees have calmed down a lot since getting released and seem to be wonderfully placid (Lexx is allergic to bees). It's now going to storm for 2 days so hopefully they are all well adjusted after a weekend inside.

Glad you survive. I hope everyone will get along well.
Oh Esther, I too am laughing hard at that image.Glad you survived Rusalka. Here's to happy bees (and Lexx by staying unstung)

Hopefully, Lex will have a bee suit and an Emergency epi pen an hand. Do you have a bee suit, Rusalka? I know that we have talked about the bees before but can’t remember if you said anything about getting one. I know that you have a flow hive. I haven’t watched any bee videos on You Tube for a long time. I think I stopped getting notices. If you only have one hive, what are your plans, if your bees swarm next year? It seems impossible to have only one hive.
I have a friend who is a beekeeper and she goes out and rescues bees that have swarmed. I went with her a couple of times but stayed in the truck since I'm allergic to bees. It's pretty interesting how they rescue a swarm. And it's a great way to build up the number of hives you have.

I did it for a couple of years, but the last 2 I haven't participated. Good luck!
Bees are pretty lovely, and its been pretty stormy for the past two days. Which has involved Lexx going out to look at them and talk to them, so they get used to him. He really likes bees, and was a big influence on my buying a hive. But then he stepped on a bee and I took his allergy a bit more seriously. He has a hood, and gloves in case I need his help (although his chats have involved neither so far). I mentioned the other day he will need to don his drizabone if I really need his help which is honestly tougher than my suit. But the aim is he is a support act, and I do the work. He just makes friends.
I have to go to the chemist tomorrow for antihistamines (worst hay fever season on record here in the ACT) so will ask about an epipen. Not a bad call for my shellfish allergy and his bee one anyway.

He introduced his wife to them (in a series where he has one - Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes). She cared for them when he was "away".
I read a story, but cannot remember the title, where the bee keeper had died, and he had left instructions to his daughter, that she needed to go to the bee yard and tell his bees that he had died. I cried...
I just got the best advent calendar! It is an Exit Games advent calendar and you can a clue to solve each day. Never done one before so I'm very excited about it.
That sounds fun, Sarah! I got a coffee advent calendar this year with different flavors and types of coffee. I'm looking forward to it.
We had to take two of our dogs to the vet today and our cat is going tomorrow. They all have something going on that needed to be looked at by the vet. Fortunately, they are all ok, but will all need meds. Not exactly how we planned to spend our holiday weekend, but I'm glad it's nothing serious. Weird that they all had an issue at once, but they are three unrelated things.
@Sarah: that's a great advent calender! I've got the Harry Potter Advent Calender from Lego. It was an unexpected gift from my sister.@Kristie: That's weird that all 3 of them are sick at the same time and it's unrelated. I hope they'll feel better soon.
Thanks, Saar. They are all getting better. :) My cat injured her chin. We don't know how, but it was pretty scabby and gross. It's been 4 weeks and it's not healed fully yet so we brought her in to get it looked at. They said it's healing well and not infected, just taking longer due to the location of the injury.
My old dog gets cysts due to age and breed. One of them burst and she was licking it raw (poor baby). The vet gave her antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds to help. She has to wear a sweater over it to keep her from licking.
The puppy picked up conjunctivitis at the dog park and got some eye drops to clear it up. It looks better already. Now we're just keeping an eye on the others to make sure they don't get it from her. So far, so good.
Ah, poor pets! Maybe minor but very sore.My dog isn't doing so well but it's all age related. He's on pain killers and liver meds permanently and now his bladder is starting to go. Pete and Ciara are constantly cleaning up puddles by the door where he is caught short. I'm excused at the moment but once the boot comes off I'll be back on duty 🙄
Kristie, I'm glad all of them are starting to get better.Margo, it's hard to see pets getting old. Huge hug.
Aw, Margo. That's always hard when pets age and start to have those medical issues. Our older dog that passed a few years ago got pretty sick and needed medication before she went. The medication made her piddle a lot and she always looked so sad, like she knew she wasn't supposed to go in the house and felt bad. I'm sure she thought we'd be upset with her for being 'naughty', but we just felt so bad for her. She was such an awesome dog. Still miss her.
Wow that's a full on and stressful week for you right there Kristie! Going to the vets, I always find stressful, even for a check up. And just for one pet. But three?! Glad they are all getting the treatment they need though and will be feeling better in no time.

Aw, you've got a little pet clinic ;)
Oh I just heard a good joke about those: One Door Closes Another Opens

- Me, eating through a chocolate advent calendar.
lol, Dawn! I like advent calendars, Christine. An advent calendar has little doors and behind each door there is something, like a piece of candy, a small toy, ornament, or drink. (Mine this year has coffee.) You are supposed to open one door each day around Christmastime to get your surprise. I used to get one with chocolates in it for my children every year when they were little.
I got one last year that had little pictures behind each door and you had to try and guess the opera it represented. I love opera but did not do well at guessing them. :)
I bought my friend the Bath and Body Works advent calendar as an early 65th birthday present so that she can celebrate it every day this month until Christmas. I took it over to her today and the first door revealed a purse sized tube of Strawberry hand lotion. When I handed her the gift bag she asked if she should wait until her birthday to open it. I emphatically said, "No! You have to open it today. That's important."
I got the go ahead to lose the moon boot on saturday! My ankle is very weak but it's on the road to recovery. I have my first physio appointment tonight, storm allowing. We have Barra at the moment and I can tell you the trees are bending double and the wind is howling in the chimneys - and we're in yellow warning zone, god knows what the red zones are like. The yellow zone is a narrow strip in the middle of the country, the coasts are red and the other bits orange. It's definitely the worst we've had in a while. Rivers are bursting their banks.
