Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments What happened Sandra?

message 1302: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Nothing in particular, really. It's been a very trying year to me. The last two weeks I've been handling more than I can, and I'm just exhausted. The fact that my kids high school has had only 7 days of school and already 5 positive cases of covid is not helping.

No need to worry, Peggy. I just need to vent! At full volume!

I seem to remember a lot of people saying that about 2021 😂

message 1304: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments That's what we're here for Sandra!

A lot of 'small' things can also add up to being too much for a bit.

I hope things get a bit quieter for you soon. Don't forget to take care of yourself too!

message 1305: by Abby (new)

Abby | 270 comments I totally get the feeling. It’s been a ‘one thing after another’ kind of year. I hope things get better for you soon, Sandra.

Sandra, it's been a tough time for you so far so vent away woman! It must be a worry having school going children at the moment, my cousins are saying the same thing. Hugs 🤗

message 1307: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Thank you, everyone. I try not to complain because I know we are privileged compared with many people, but I guess the not complaining is part of the problem. Today I feel like braking something. :D

message 1308: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments Sometimes we all need to complain, Sandra, regardless of our privilege. Otherwise, it builds up and becomes unbearable. It makes everything harder when we try to hold it all in and just deal with it. We completely understand. Vent away!

I'm with you on that.

message 1310: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Maybe 2022 is not far enough for this to be finished, Janice. Maybe we should request 2023. :)

message 1311: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I want it all to be finished too, Sandra, but at my age now, I cannot afford to wish years away. I want to wish things away, except for the time. Unfortunately, I have learned that trying to wish things away does not really make anything different.
Believe me - I have tried. ;O)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I completely understand Sandra, and I cannot imagine how much more I would feel this with kids.

I was reading your post, and I thought - you should get a Tupperware or ice cream container and fill it with water and freeze it. Once it's frozen, you should remove it from the container and scream while throwing it at an outside brick wall. This sounds REALLY cathartic and not breaking anything meaningful. Maybe the kids would like to join in!

I went outside at 3pm this arvo as I realised I hadn't left the computer all day. I took my book, and sat in the spring sun with a cuppa.

It was the first spring day so I haven't really spent much time outside since we haven't been out of the house much. There is a noise coming from next door. It's an instrument. It's not very good. My neighbours have two older teenage girls. One is learning the tuba. In lockdown. Badly. Both parents were taking phone calls in the backyard this arvo.

I have a couple of team members who are not dealing very well with working and home schooling Kindy kids and looking after toddlers. I told them about the teenage girl playing the tuba next door. Everyone, EVERYONE, now feels better about their life.

message 1314: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Sep 02, 2021 06:31AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments The thing I feel the most empathy about is one of their parents is leading one of the country's ministry's/department's response to the Covid lockdown with this happening in their house. And I love it.

Real people are important.

message 1315: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments lol, Rus. I'm sure they are feeling quite grateful now knowing that their kids at least aren't practicing tuba in the house!

The tuba is in the house. And is audible inside our house.
Parents on the phone are outside the house.

I am laughing

Throwing a chunk of ice at a wall while screaming sounds very therapeutic. :)

I'm sorry about the tuba. That sounds like it sucks (or blows in this case)! I'm learning the ukulele which I can only hope is gentler on the ears than a tuba.

Saar The Book owl | 2648 comments I ccompletely understand you, Sandra, it just has been such a weird year, but next year, we all try to make the best of it that it will be OUR year ;)

Oh, Rusalka, you've made me laugh with the ice, but it's actually a good idea. Oh, I think I would go nuts with someone learning the tuba or not nuts, maybe earplugs...

Next year we should do a YLTO one-month reading retreat in Easter island. How does it sound?

(feeling better today ❤️)

message 1324: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Easter Island is on my bucket list!

Rusalka - you made me laugh about the neighbors. I have barking dogs behind my back fence. They bark at everything! No tubas for me, though, thanks!

Sandra - glad you are feeling better.
Two of my grandsons start school, here in Oregon, next week. I am glad that they are both vaccinated. My youngest (and last grandchild) started Kindergarten, in California, last week. I don’t know if he is vaccinated. I hope so.

message 1325: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments My nine yr old grandson started school in Texas a couple of weeks ago. Too young to be vaccinated yet. His school has a masks optional policy. He's used to wearing one so hopefully he's wearing his, at least I hope so.

I have neighbors that have a barky dog, and who like to light a fire in their backyard almost every night. I think they do it just to burn trash because it really stinks and the breeze blows the "scent" into my living room. I'm kind of glad it's been hot so I keep the windows closed and turn on the ac. Plus I live on a busy street where there's traffic all day and night. Someone down the street likes to ride up and down so everyone can hear his music full blast and his lack of muffler.

Hahah, I just saw a commercial for a new show on the Disney Channel. "Naked and Afraid of Love" described as "where singles try to find love while surviving naked in the middle of nowhere." Who thinks of these shows? The sunburns, the mosquito bites. Yeesh. Sorry I got distracted.

Definitely no to tuba the musical instrument, but a big yes to Tuba Büyüküstün, the Turkish acting star :-) - she’s awesome! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuba_Bü...

message 1327: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments Thanks for the chuckle, Rusalka. When we went into lockdown, the boy across the street bounced his basketball ALL DAY, every day in their driveway. Thump! Thump! Thump! All I could think was that he had better become a fabulous professional basketball player when he grows up.

Indeed. And really, why would you sign up to participate to something like this? Then, reality tv is something that keeps baffling me. I have no interest in watching it so I cannot understand participating either.

I've seen this show advertised. The thing I find the funniest about it is that Naked and Afraid is a show where they dump people, naked, into the wild where they have to fend for themselves. My mom and dad watch this show called Alone where the take a bunch of people and leave them alone in the wild with only cameras to keep them company and whoever lasts the longest wins. So we decided that the Naked and Afraid of Love version of that show would be called Alone... But Not For Long.

This would be a take on an existing show called "Naked and Afraid" that has been airing since 2013. It's a survivalist type show. I have a friend who loves watching it. People want to see if they can survive if they are dropped in the wilderness with nothing.

Oh the only bad thing about the yoga is it is so relaxing I often fall asleep mid workout LOL

Glad you have AC Roz! I'm very happy that outdoor burning was banned here years ago - my lungs are thankfully :-)

I still haven't gotten over happening over the naked dating show on uk tv. The thoughts of naked bodies getting burnt and stung is not appealing! Where do they find these idiots???

Saar The Book owl | 2648 comments I watch 'Naked and Afraid' on Discovery Channel and sometimes I wonder where they find those people. Some of them aren't survival material at all, but it's a good laugh.

Last Sunday the new karaté - season started again with no masks. Yay! I'm aching all over my body and I've got a massive bruise on my right arm, but it was good to be back!

message 1344: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments Oh wow guys - the kindergarteners this year are ROUGH! I have been teaching kinder for 15 years and the first week made me cry! And my class is probably the best one of the three at my school! It is especially hard since my last year class was one of the best classes I have ever had. Covid is rampant in the county I teach in so that is just an added stress and masks cannot be mandated as per our lovely legislature. I already had one case in my class the first week.

message 1345: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

I don't know! Like we have kids kicking teachers, breaking windshields, fist-fighting in class, running away - it's crazy!

message 1348: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) | 1650 comments It seems that everyone is behaving badly. The kids in schools are not behaving. Passengers on planes are getting duk taped.

I think some have forgotten how to behave in groups. Another thing to thank Covid for
