Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Yes, let's hope it only gets better from here!

I signed up for another Conqueror Challenge, the New Zealand one. I want to complete it roller skating (or maybe inline skating). I aim to complete it before I go on holiday in August, so I should skate 20km a week in May, June and July. I think I'm way too optimistic about myself, haha!

Kristie | 19139 comments Oh, that's a challenge, Peggy! Let us know how you make out. :)

message 803: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Haha, I think I managed 20km in total all of last year, lol! I'll just see how far I get, otherwise I'll just complete it by walking.

message 804: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Sounds great, Peggy. The challenge should be an encouragement.

Ya I lost like 25 pounds on the "divorce diet" - then I gained it back when I found my soul mate - I know it sounds cheesy, but I am 14 years in now and he is still my #1 :) - then I actually had to commit to an exercise plan to lose my happiness weight

message 806: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments My best friend died in January. Our 25 year friendship started in high school over books. She became a librarian. This last week had my birthday and her mom sent me a package with some of her books that I asked for. I just want to say that I love this community of book lovers.

message 807: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yep, I lost my lockdown belly on the breakup diet. It's a real thing. Hopefullly, the new boat exercise plan will maintain it. Haha.

Sorry to hear about your friend Katrisa. I agree, this book community is pretty special and I wouldn't be without it.

message 808: by Grainne (new)

Grainne Coughlan | 1297 comments I am sorry fro your loss Katrisa.

That's encouraging Kristie. I hope the diet continues to help you become more healthy. I gained weight over the last few months so I enrolled in a local yoga class 3 days a week. I start on Monday and I have been hiking the last couple of weekends as the weather is perfect for walking outside. Good luck with your trek Peggy. It does sound interesting and I find it helps to have a goal and plan.

I also bought an Instant Pot so I am having fun cooking new recipes in it. I am cooking a Thai chicken curry with broccoli and eggplant. I cooked a potato and leek soup with white beans earlier. I also prepped some pumpkin puree but I have not idea what to cook with the pumpkin puree yet haha I think the novelty is due to wear off soon!

Renee, I am glad that you are feeling better.

So sorry for your lost Katrissa.

Awesome Kristie,

Grainne. I am doing waffles with pumpkin puree,

Kristie | 19139 comments Oh yes... waffles, muffins, pancakes... all great with pumpkin puree. Or you could always make a pumpkin pie.

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I decided to try Hello Fresh. My friend referred me and they gave me a $50.00 off coupon! First order comes Wednesday and I'm getting Savory Sheet Pan Chicken, Maple-Mustard Pork Chops, and Spring Turkey Bolognese.

The meals are for 2 people, so I will have 6 meals out of each delivery. I'm going to try every other week at first and adjust from there. Maybe there will be lovely tastes to tantalize these tastebuds into recovery.

message 815: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I did hello fresh for several months. The meals are all easy and quite delicious. Just was too expensive for me once it was just me living here. I'm more of a throw some form of beef or pork in a frying pan with a garden salad on the side type of guy. I didn't need the variety any more. I have no issue eating the same thing every day

message 816: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Now I tend to often have a freezer full of various meat seeing as a whole cow or whole hog or whatever goes in at a time. So when I did hello fresh I actually went with a vegetarian meals to switch life up. Learned different ways of doing things

message 817: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I'm concerned about the price as well which is why I decided to do every other week. I might even do it every 3 weeks. I know one person who does it once a month.

Easy is good because I've been known to not do the rice because it takes too long and substitute toast instead.

You could save so much money buying frozen foods, like frozen veggies ,hash brown and chicken fillet or anything like that, I invested on a good air frier and everything cooks much faster, I throw the frozen mixed veggies and some meat or chicken and I have a meal in less than 25 mins, I totally recommend that, I no longer even bother with any meal subscriptions, I even found some frozen cheese rolls that cooks in the air frier for about 5 mins. I usually put the temp at max so everything cooks fast. the older I get the more impatient I am with food

I even found myself eating more chicken and getting more protein (which I had a problem with) with just buying frozen chicken fillet zing style , really spicy but tastes hella good on a sandwich

That sounds good but in my current situation, I'm unable to drive and getting to the grocery store is a problem. This way, it's delivered to my door and I don't have to ask my friends to help me.

Understandable, in my country everything now is online and deliverable, so I never had to get out of my house. Probably because its a big business in here, online deliveries started to thrive around 10 years ago, now everyone buys online. and there is a lot of apps and website that does the same thing.

message 821: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I can't recall the maker of it. But last time I got groceries I found these rice packets of various flavored rice sides. You slit the top of the bag and microwave for 2 minutes and they ended up being really good. They're my new favorite side. They were cheap and can't get any easier and quite tasty. Was a good find for me

message 822: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments I may be on an all beef diet for the next while though. I dabble in direct to consumer beef sales. Had a client lined up for half a beef and they backed out. Happens all the time. So I've got an entire beef to pick up for myself this week. Probably eat steak with a side of hamburger for a bit until it gets old and in need of a little variety

I can order groceries online with Superstore but I still have to go to the store to pick them up. Same with Walmart. Co-op used to deliver when Covid lockdowns were first introduced, but they have stopped. I don't know about Safeways or Freson. I'll check them out.

message 825: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I just checked and it looks like Walmart will deliver. Safeway doesn't offer the service nor does Food for Less. Freson Brothers North End doesn't either.

Still, I like the convenience of Hello Fresh so I'll give it a try. One of my friends goes to the grocery store a couple times a week and she said she's happy to pick up whatever I need. When I etransfer her the money, I always add a bit more because I'm so grateful.

Thats a great friend :)

I just had an annoying conversation with a co-worker, every time she makes a mistake she throws it at me because I'm a "supervisor". I got sick of this constant excuse and I finally snapped and told her that I'm the acting supervisor and I supervise the records not the teachers.

went to make coffee and it ended up getting cold since I'm so angry , you'd think working with women-only working place ,you'd all get along. Sigh

message 827: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I really enjoyed hello fresh. I stopped it now. I ffound having the same meal two nights in a row a bit boring, with just 4 different dishes in a week. I like more variety. Also i found it expensive. Butt i learnt wome neat recipes which i'll continue to make and it was very convenient. Not having to think what to buy or eat. I think it will bee perfect ror you right now Janice.

I have found that all one or the other is never good! Better to have a good mix of men and women. All women tends to get bitchy and all men tends to get disgusting.....

No Save-on-Foods where you are Janice?? That is the only one that delivers where I am. Everywhere else you have to pick up yourself.

In Grande Prairie. I only did a google search and it came up with "in store shopping" and "curbside pickup" so I assumed they didn't do delivery. This time I went to their website, entered my postal code in their delivery locations, and they do deliver! That's awesome! I shall keep that in mind.

Thanks so much for the heads up.

message 831: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Sounds like some good dishes Janice! Some of the Hello Fresh recipes we get could feed 3 people (and Rob is a big eater) but then other recipes are only just enough for the 2 of us (and it's a good thing I usually eat less than half of it, so Rob doesn't go hungry ;-)).

message 832: by Peggy (last edited May 03, 2021 12:59AM) (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I have a week off from work (school holiday). I really needed that! I had hoped though that the weather would be nice, but spring has not been spring-like at all. Normally temperatures should be around 19-20C early May, but for the past weeks it hasn't been between 11-14. There hasn't been much rain though and quite some sun, so that was still okay. Unfortunately exactly this week (tomorrow until Friday) will be 11C, very windy, and rainy. I had so looked forward to just being outside, read a bit.. Sometimes in early spring I feel like a wilted flower that really needs to be out in the sun to soak up some warmth and energy, but that's not going to happen.

For Sunday and next week the forecast is that it will be 25C, but it's back to work for me then..

Hope it helps, it is incredibly popular here. I am always surprised that more stores don't offer it.

message 834: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments We have a proper storm going on here today. It's supposed to carry on into tomorrow too. Slightly concerned the rain will throw a spanner in the works of my boat plans this week by raising the water level/increasing flow. Survey is booked for Thursday but have a 5 hour boat journey to take it to the place where the survey is happening on Wednesday. So fingers crossed for better weather, fingers crossed for good river conditions, fingers crossed for a satisfactory survey, dingers crossedd for a quick completion so I can be living on my boat on Friday.

Saar The Book owl | 2650 comments I hope you can have your boat on Friday, Sarah.

There's a storm here going on too. I've got the early shift, so it was a bit dangerous with my bike. The roof repairer was here yesterday, because some of the roof tiles got messed up from the previous storm. I hope they're good now.

message 842: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yesterday was survey day! It was a good day and all went well. There is some corrosion where the boat has been neglected so it's not as good as other boats of the same age. However, it can all be sorted without the need for any welding. Welding work is what I was worried about as it costs so much in materials and labour. It needs quite a bit of work but it's not break the bank money and many of the jobs I can do myself, just requires a lot of elbow grease! So I am very pleased. Today, I'm going to be renegotiating price accordingly with the seller and then she will be mine. I'll keep you posted but it's all looking very promising :-)

I'm actually quite relieved that there's an explanation for the pains and swelling that mysteriously hits different parts of my body, but always on my left side. I'm hoping to start a new drug on monday which is supposed to be super effective.
