Hello Fabrizio. Welcome to the group. I hope you find many interesting books and discussions here to enjoy!

I've made it a goal to read at least one classic per month and my current read is The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. My favorite classic authors are Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, and Thomas Hardy. I'm hoping to read even more books by different authors.
Welcome to the group, Tiffany. You've named three of my favorites. Hope to see you on the threads and to get to know you better.

Hello everyone,
I'm Fed from Italy. Back to fiction after a twenty year break, time I devoted to philosophy, psychology and mystics.
I feel at home among classics, with Seneca, Kafka and Hesse having been my lifetime favourite authors. I devoted April to the three novels by Italo Svevo (alias Ettore Schmitz) (fl. 1890s-1920s) and May to Polish literature (Witold Gombrowicz, Czesław Miłosz), with Nineteen Eighty-Four and Wuthering Heights as seasoning. June is going to be American classics from the early 1900s, while looking forward to July and The Magic Mountain.
Happy to be here!

How does Cosmos compare to Witold Gombrowicz's other books, in your opinion?
Klowey wrote: "Welcome to this fantastic GR group..."
Thank you, Klowey! Cosmos was my introduction to Gombrowicz, having read only his private diary "Kronos" (shorthand fragments about people and places, without much narrative), published posthumously as a complement to the large corpus of his public diaries.
I really liked Cosmos! It's not as 'intricate' and complex as the first part of The Sound and the Fury (reading it just now). Cosmos, although hinting at the surreal and the absurd, retains some sort of scientific clarity and formal harmony, which go very well with the rarefied plot. I guess you would like it—don't postpone it for too long! ;)

Thank you Bob, thank you Sara!
Update on The Sound and the Fury: I'm really surprised by the variety of techniques—'punctuated' stream of consciousness with chronological leaps announced by a sparse use of italics, organized narrative, unbroken stream of consciousness (full pages without punctuation and capitalization)...

I have met other people in GR groups that I continue to correspond with outside the group even after two or three years since we first connected. Perhaps, I will make a new long-time friend here as well.
Welcome, Paul. Sounds like you will be a perfect fit for the group (and the group for you). I hope you find the perfect friend here--it's possible.
I am so glad you chose our group Paul. You will find good discussions and many, many ideas to grow your To-be-read list. Welcome. Join any discussion you like, even if the book is not one of our monthly reads. The threads never close. Also, the challenges are lots of fun and it is never too late to start a challenge!! Just set up a thread..

Welcome back, Kim. I tremble to think about having to recreate my GR profile! So sorry that happened to you. Looking forward to seeing you in the threads.

Hi Kim... yes what a daunting task it would be to recreate your book lists! Glad you decided to come back.
Hi Kim... yes what a daunting task it would be to recreate your book lists! Glad you decided to come back.

I am challenged to read 52 books a year but most of these are Book club suggestions, library temptations, new finds...while my classics just sit.
I am presently reading Dr. Zhivago. Always enjoy reading about what others are reading!
Frances
Nice to meet you, Frances. I'm sure if you get started on those classics you are hoarding, you are going to love them. Hope you are enjoying Dr. Zhivago...some beautiful writing! Looking forward to seeing you in the threads.
