Who else is watching BRIDGERTON? Mélanie and I are having a lot of fun with it. And it's full of great possible fantasy casting inspiration for the Rannoch series. Have you seen anyone who would work well for one of the Rannoch series characters?

Deb (debv) | 17 comments I loved the Bridgerton book series but I can't say I am happy with the Netflix series. Had I not read the books I wouldn't realize how much they took away and how much they added. The books have some out loud laughs in them and the series had none. Will I watch the next installment? Maybe. I had no issue with the racial tone, it was more what they added which to me was definitely not necessary. I wish Tinseltown would somehow remain true to the books and not add to make it more dramatic. Sorry, I just wished they had left it alone.

It's so hard in many ways when a beloved book or series is filmed because inevitably so many things are changed between the two mediums. It's a long time since I've read the books so I know I'm not picking up on all the changes and I'm probably enjoying it more that way. What are the main things they've added that bother you?

Deb (debv) | 17 comments They introduced the queen who wasn't even in the book, they changed Colin to fall in love with a character that wasn't even in the book. The Bridgerton brothers were actually funny in the book. They also supported their sister's choice to marry who she wanted ( OK except maybe for Simon) I hated that they made Daphne a debutante and a diamond. She had been out already and she was so namby pamby in this show that it made me crazy!! Daphne was strong and could hold her own. Like I said I missed the humor that was in the books. There were some laugh out loud moments not seen in the Netflix version. Yes, I have strong opinions and nothing irritates me more than when you change the essence of a book. I had read the Duke and I two years ago and then followed up with the most of the series last year. I just finished Hyacinth's story last night. They need to be truer to the book and create less drama for the sake of making a show. OK, I am done venting, sorry.
If your books were made into a series and they started switching things up - trust me, you'd be hearing from me. They kept Harry Potter relatively true to the books, I don't understand when they over write an authors work and think it makes a story better. Authors did the hard work already!! OK Now I am really done

Great to get your take, Deb! I read the books when they came out, so it's been quite a while. I can see how they wanted to show Daphne's debut but then it seemed very quick for her to be "on the shelf." My biggest quibble so far is that Anthony seemed quite unsympathetic with his actions at the beginning, though he's improving later in the series (we still have two episodes to go). Books and film are very different mediums, so I do understand what works to tell a story in a book may not translate to film and you may need to create different scenes to get the same story across. That I said, adaptations of beloved books sometimes baffle me too! The Bridgerton books really focus on one couple per book and in the series they are interweaving to create more of an ensemble. I really like that, but then I like ensemble stories.

Deb (debv) | 17 comments I have no problems that it has become more of an ensemble piece, But don't create drama for the sake of introducing a family member. I agree Anthony was extremely unsympathetic in the show. And again, he is a big brother and heir, but again, I hate when changes are made that do not coincide with the books. I keep saying there are so many funny moments in the books that were not reflected. This is a loud boisterous loving family who interfere with one another lives. Even Daphne and Simon had funny moments, like when she thought he was impotent based on Violets attempt to explain sex for her wedding night. I am sorry, I thought that was incredibly funny and it helped ease the tension. I have strong opinions as you can see. Will I watch the next show? Don't know

Strong opinions show how much you love the books! I get a nice sense of the love in the Bridgerton family from the tv series though I agree they don't quite seem loud and boisterous. We still have the last episode left to watch. My daughter is having a lot of fun trying to figure out who is Lady Whistledown :-).

I've warned her that isn't the real voice of Lady Whistledown, but I still think she believe it's someone older. I'll let you know how she reacts when we watch tonight!

Oh, I meant to post - thanks for the reminder! She was very surprised. She thought it was Lady Danbury for a long time.
