I'm still reading The Book of Accidents and it's good. I'm also almost done with Ronald Malfi's Come With Me and it's quite intriguing-I haven't yet guessed how it will all come out in the end.

Still working on Kill Creek. I have a couple of niggling criticisms but it's an absorbing read ... when I get to read. Between baby-sitting and critiquing a friend's first novel, time away from work is getting a bit chewed up.

Kill Creek is kind of a slow burn, but it will work its way up to crescendo eventually and it will be hard to put down. :)

The Haunted House From Hell by Mark L'estrange - kind of a slow burn haunting, but it has lots of mystery.


Destroy All Cryptids by David Haynes - sequel to his first book - creature feature series with cryptids. The first book was awesome and this one is starting out great.

and I am reading one fantasy book (a trilogy)

Sorcerer's Quest: Complete Trilogy by N.A.K. Baldron - kind of YA but it is not that bad - the storyline kind of flows along.

I'm about 2/3s through and I can see that; it's an approach I enjoy. My quibbles are about how hard Thomas was trying to set up atmosphere and mood early on which led to some -- for me -- over writing. It smooths out a lot after the first 50 to 70 pages.

I’m reading this sort-of existential creep fest called There Is No Antimemetics Division by qntm. I bought it on a whim because it was on sale and I’m thoroughly enjoying it so far.

Does anyone else feel a need to read different styles from book to book? For example I can’t read more than one slasher in a row; I’d rather switch to quiet horror, or a classic of the supernatural.

Alexis, I alternate between novels and short stories, also between genres -- horror, sf, fantasy, mystery/crime, and more mainstream works. Lately I've also been including more women and non-Caucasian writers to my literary diet, trying to broaden my horizons a bit. And occasionally I toss in non-fiction.

I like a lot of types of stories and story-telling, and try not to wear out my liking of any one by reading too exclusively.

I don't tend to stick with one theme either - I am all over the place with horror - sometimes I will read more than one book too which I keep the themes separate as I don't want to get confused! lol

Also I will mix up my genres too as I like to read other stuff besides horror, but I always try to keep things simple for myself. :)

I like reading short stories too. Usually I read the anthologies/collections straight through but it's probably to savor them one at a time between novels. I admire those who have multiple books going but it looks like you've found a nice trick to keep them separated.

Regarding diverse writers: so do I. Fortunately there's a plenitude these days.

I am the same on anthologies and collections as if I start a book that has a bunch of stories in them I will read the whole book. I like reading anthologies as I have found a few new authors to explore that way. Normally the authors in anthologies will have other books that they have written as well, so it makes it fun to continue on with their other works. :)

Ohh! I love those Joe Ledger books. They are a glorious summer read and I have not as yet gotten caught up on the series. I've reads the first 3 books and all the novella prior to that, so I have several options. I think I know what my August read is going to be!

Just started reading Relentless... dayum! I love this series. Some day I'm going to start at the beginning and binge read the entire series all over again. Plan to do that with the Charlie Parker series too.
