End Strong/Start Strong Year-End Readathon
Rusty wrote: "As I look over the year, I decided that I need to return to reading more classics. Only four were completed this year. And, I hope to read more selections from the reading groups I check each month..."Eight of my top 20 reads [though, I find when you read 200+ books, it is very difficult to have a top 20] were classics. I just finished Les Miserable and that is absolutely in my top 10, something I am absolutely gobsmacked about. So heartily applaud your return to more classics. I too am making a point of reading one every month next year. Now that I have the momentum, I am ready for more!
Yesterday I finished: The Noonday Friends - 5 Stars
The Magician's Elephant - 5 Stars
Rappaccini's Daughter - 3 Stars [though I will be revisiting this as a read read not a listen as the person who recommended it to me said its better that way]
I was supposed to finish The Plague, but got distracted by lists and YouTube. ;-) I will finish it today. I have also realized what a complete weirdo I am for loving a book that is about the plague. It is just so well-written and you just get sucked into the story. [Shrug]
I finished Les Misérables this morning and have severe book hangover. 5 glorious stars to that read. SO amazing. Unfortunately, I have other stuff to read, so I cannot wallow in my book hangover. Sigh. LOL
I started Night. Apparently, I am going to end 2020 on a depressing note.
You guys are all doing great! I'm not getting any more reading done this year, only an hour and a half left!
Ok, a couple of quick reads:Finished: Wicked New Hampshire This was a Christmas gift and I loved it!
Finished: Letters From Father Christmas Had this one on my shelf from when my kids where young - had to pull it out and reread after seeing a few others mention it! Very fun!
Currently reading: The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle I won't finish this before midnight, but it feels like a great book to go into the new year with!
Forgot one: Finished: A Wealth of Pigeons: A Cartoon Collection Another Christmas book given to a family member but I couldn't resist reading it myself!
Today I have read:Dec 31:
Dec 31:
Read both of these today and finished the second book at 10 pm. Two hours to spare! And I have also now completed the popsugar challenge!
I've read 37 books this month. Which is a lot of books!
I have already picked out the first book I'll be reading for 2021. Has anyone else picked out a book?
Surpassed my 2020 goal and haven 't yet added all reads.. 2021 I will say 221 for starters plus, I am changing my reading focus
So will happily see how this new year of reading goes...
1st read of the year completed.. yes! Picked a fav for a reading treat.. Jane Austen's
performed by Juliet Stevenson

Finished two more complete books, Vampires Don't Wear Polka Dots and Werewolves Don't Go to Summer Camp. Also finished the three books I had in progress: Silent Night, This is How You Die: Stories of the Inscrutable, Infallible, Inescapable Machine of Death, and Dreams In Her Head.So altogether so far I've finished 8 books, 5 of which I had started pre-read-a-thon. I just barely hit my Mount TBR goal! And hit my recently lowered Goodreads goal, with 127 total books in 2020.
I'll probably spend the 2021 portion of this read-a-thon trying to make a dent in my library book pile.
I nearly burnt myself out plowing through

It snowed last night and now it's ugly raining and cold and just all-around gross so today is a day for blankets, copious amounts of tea, and reading!
I plan on doing 50-page sprints all day:

I started all three of these yesterday. The novel feels like it will be a pretty quick read (I'm already a third of the way through), so I'll definitely start and maybe even finish another during the readathon. The short story collection I plan to take my time with, one or two stories a day, so I probably won't finish that one. The audio will probably stretch most of the week, but it's due back next weekend, so I'll finish that out of necessity.
Good start to 2021!

I read
and listened to about 3 hours of
. And then I "happened" to discover a list of books on sale on Amazon (ok it was a Book Riot post titled "New Year, New Book Deals" and took several non-accidental clicks to "happen"...) so I have officially added more books to my TBR than I have removed during this readathon. Happy New Year! lol

I may have done a Book Outlet order today...it HAS been over a year since I ordered from them so I earned it. Plus I cashed in my CC rewards so it's like free money. Right? 🤣

I may have bought a bunch of books too this weekend...both from Amazon and from eBay. I do have an excuse though...my birthday is coming up and what else would a bookworm like me want (besides horses that is)? 😁🐎🐎🐎 How about HORSE BOOKS?? 😅
Plus in December I read at least one library book that I just loved and had to get my own copy!!
And oh gee, I was looking at the new popsugar challenge today and I found myself searching books in my apartment, setting certain ones aside that fit the prompts of the new challenges! 😱 And it's only Jan 2!
Plus I picked up yet MORE library books today for group reads! Including the
and
And yesterday I spent some time organizing my book categories on here and sorted out multiple pages of read books into the new categories.
I've already read 3 books today, going to see if I can read another. 😁

One weekend into the new year, and back to real life tomorrow. (I'm anticipating many struggles as I try to get a 5yo to understand that vacation time is over.)I haven't finished anything yet, but I'm making good progress and, even better, I'm really enjoying all three of my selections!
203 pages (60%)
62 pages (17%)
3:09:44 (45%)
I read 50 pages of
and finished a surprise reread of
(I meant to just look up something to answer a question... but wound up rereading the whole thing. How do you not get sucked into Scooby-Doo meets The Haunting of Hill House meets H.P. Lovecraft? It was thoroughly enjoyable the second time around, too)
I recently started the Ravens! And I got approved for three arcs so I might start one of those tonight too
I hardly read anything yesterday or today. One of my dogs is not feeling well, he's almost 15, so I can't focus.
Meaghan wrote: "Aww Elyse I hope he feels better soon :("
Thank you, Meaghan! He's had a rough winter. Just taking it day by day. Hubby's not ready to let go yet. :/

I have finished these books:Jan 1:

And I'm about 25 % through
I have injured my big toe today plus ended up with a big popped blister on my heel, so the next few days I'll have to stay off my feet. My toe really hurts just sitting here and the nail is discolored now. I just bruise so easily.
Elyse wrote: "I hardly read anything yesterday or today. One of my dogs is not feeling well, he's almost 15, so I can't focus."I'm sorry he's not feeling well! Sending virtual snuggles and head pets.
Finished my second book of the year (10th finished book of this read-a-thon),
The Collected Works of Gretchen Oyster by Cary Fagan.I also started an ebook. I'm rereading A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Yesterday I read The Conspiracy: A Superb Roller-Coaster Thriller With A Terrific Twist and The Conspiracy II: Searching for The Truth in Washington D.C., which I'll finish today; then i have 2 more review books to get to.
Finished my first two books of 2021: Treasures by Belva Plain. 5/5. I love her writing, the dialogue makes me feel like I'm in a movie from the 1940's. Also finished The Family Journal by Carolyn Brown 3/5. It was good but a bit forgettable, seemed to be missing some spark and humor. Started A Splendid Ruin which I won from Goodreads. On Chapter 2, it's intriguing so far. Also started The Lies We Told by Diane Chamberlain, another of my favorite authors. Will try hard to finish these by Jan 9.
Next, I think I may try Les Miserables by Victor Hugo since I see that a couple people on here enjoyed it. I own the audible version. 60 hours! Wow

I read and finished
today and I also read another 100 pages of
which brings my progress near the 50% mark... There seems to be a lot of text per page in that King book so I often feel that one page in that one is like 2 pages in another book! But the story is so fascinating! And I absolutely LOVED reading about Metro! 🏇
