I can totally understand that, it was similar for me but I read Elantris first and adored it so for me that one will always have a special place in my heart. I read it about 5 years ago now, but I cannot wait to reread it this year and host the readalong for that and The Emperor's Soul which is one of my all time Sanderson faves too :D

Aaron (koelker12) As others have said, I thought the whole "Elend crowned king" thing was pretty out of left field. The explanation given was, perhaps, the other nobles felt they could control him since he was young and weak, yet through the entire book we keep hearing how Elend is this unpredictable, almost social pariah among his peers. Yet they still think it's a good idea to put a crown on his head? All these nobles who thrive on stability and are probably still reeling from the death of THEIR GOD, essentially, choose the unpredictable, quirky liberal forward thinker as their king?

Yea, I didn't buy that haha.

And PS. I refuse to believe Kelsier is dead for good. I don't know what the Well of Ascension is, other than the title of the next book and probably where the Deepness hangs out, but I suspect they bring him back to life somehow. He seemed too good of a character to let go so soon in the series, and he still had a lot of blank spaces in his backstory we didn't get to hear about. (Like his mentor and training)

I Was getting all excited for this massive 3 book quest for the heroes to upend the Lord Ruler, who I thought was an awesome nemesis with the perfect shroud of mystery surrounding him and this awesome almost unstoppable power that needed to be overcome. And then just like that bam! Hes down for the count:( Oh well maybe after reading books two and three it will all tie in nicely and could even change my rating. I guess I was just a little let down."

I agree on that count. Judging from the pace of the book up until the last handful of chapters, I thought the Lord Ruler was going to be the overarching antagonist for at least one more book, with The Deepness then entering for the last novel. But from the moment they first see the Lord Ruler, it all felt very rushed.

Ahh.. but doesn't that tell you that there is an even bigger and more powerful baddie out there?? The Lord Ruler's last words were so ominous! Wait for it...

I guess I scored it as an individual book but like I said after reading the next two it could change the rating if it all makes sense and leads to something bigger :) Looking forward to finding out.

Kitt (thefictionkitten) | 2 comments Such an amazing book and I want to read it again, before I read the next one! I've read this one but I'm a little behind on the second! But I totally had the worst book hangover after this book!

I actually like the way that it ended. It was a complete story in itself, with a beginning, middle, and end... but left PLENTY of loose threads for the next book.

I get irritated when series have books end on some huge cliffhanger, so I appreciated that Mistborn didn't do that.

I was also with you - up until 3am finishing!

czarmaine (bookishbananas) (bookishbananas) woah this book was so good. and i didnt expect kelsier to die!!!! and marsh!! AHHH so many plot twists waaaat

Kitty | 1 comments I just read it, and I never fancast books I read, but throughout this entire book I pictures Sazed as the Indian guy (who is the butler/PA of mr warbucks) from the movie Annie. And the way he saves Vin in the ending is very much like his role in the movie. I found it really funny to experience picturing someone so clearly, it never happens to me. Needless to say, this made him my favorite character in the book!

Something similar happened to me. I just picked several characters and decided that they would have a specific accent and when those characters had a line I would read it aloud in that accent.
