I believe I read this in the middle of 2019 but I could be wrong, and I remember that the three protagonists were an unlikely group of friends from either the Midwest or the South. Two are guys who both have shitty home lives (one has a cult leader for a follower who messed around with snakes, and the other had a drunk/abusive dad and buried himself in fantasy games online) and one of them was a girl who had a nice home life and nice house, and was a small fashion influencer. Basically the book was about their senior year of high school, and how their lives changed. Ultimately, the fantasy lad moves into his car and was shot selling fire wood when a couple guys tried to rob him. The remaining male protagonist realizes that he's suicidal and remembers that he promised to tell the female protagonist if he was going to kill himself, so she helps him apply for college and he ends up going into music. Also, throughout the books he released solo guitar/singing tracks that blew up on the internet.
