SarahKat | 6294 comments This thread is to discuss Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth book in the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.

Pages: 734 pages

Length: 1 Month (January)

Participants: Alaina, Raviteja.

Everyone reads at their own pace during a Buddy Read. Because participants can be at different parts of the book at different times, it is extremely important to mark spoilers so that the book is not ruined for someone who is not as far along as others!!!

Mark spoilers by placing {spoiler} before the text and {/spoiler} after the text but use the < and > instead of the { and }.

Cassie | 370 comments I listened to the audio of this in 2020 for the first time in years. There were so many details I had forgotten about! I loved this book, I started to hate the book to movie translations with this one.

I hope you all enjoy, can't wait to hear what you think!

Leon | 19 comments Hi all, count me in for this series. I bought the potter book series for my daughter a couple of years ago. I have read the first 3 books last year and will continue this month with the 4th book.

Carol | 69 comments I think this is the best book of the whole series, I can remember exactly where I was when I first read this many years ago. Hope everyone reading it thoroughly enjoys it.

Welcome to the Buddy Read Leon. I am going to start reading this in the third week of this month. Would love to hear your thoughts :)

Welcome! We've been loving this series!! It's a fun re-read since I'm finding things I've overlooked in previous re-reads. Can't wait to see what you comment about!

It was a lot of fun. For some reason, they are very hard to put down or walk away from. I can't wait to dive into the next book already!

Mitali (mitalinvincible) | 11 comments I have this book borrowed alongside my other library books right now and will be reading alongside Station Eleven back to back.
Can't wait to read other people's thoughts

Raviteja (fraggerbot) | 354 comments Ok, I know I am reading this late, but here I go.

Chapter 1 is a great start for the book, giving us slight hint of what is in store. However, all my interest died as I reached chapter 2 which seems to be mostly a 'recap' chapter listing out what all happened so far. Is it even expected that someone reads a "random" Harry Potter book rather than going in order?

Each Harry Potter book from 2 onwards starts in a recap way, but I swear every book is also very unique and different :)

I know :)
I went back and checked the previous two books and there were recaps. I guess seeing an entire chapter full of it has irked me slightly.

Ron was just an asshole to Harry all this time, especially at this time when Harry needed some support from his friend. Glad they are back.

Harry's sass is still good though.
“Congratulations, Harry!” she said, beaming at him. “I wonder if you could give me a quick word? How you felt facing that dragon? How you feel now, about the fairness of the scoring?”

“Yeah, you can have a word,” said Harry savagely. “Good-bye.”

I finished it and sorry, I am quite late.

My heart goes out to Cedric's parents particularly around the parts when they met with/interviewed Harry, and when Harry tried to offer the tournament winnings to them.

In many ways, Dumbledore feels more like a responsible father figure. A particular character of him that I like is that he doesn't bullshit around serious business

“Come along, Potter,” she whispered. The thin line of her mouth was twitching as though she was about to cry. “Come along … hospital wing …”

“No,” said Dumbledore sharply.

“Dumbledore, he ought to — look at him — he’s been through enough tonight —”

“He will stay, Minerva, because he needs to understand,” said Dumbledore curtly. “Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery. He needs to know who has put him through the ordeal he has suffered tonight, and why.”

The final conversation between Cornelius Fudge and Dumbledore reeks me of the bureaucracy, particularly with Fudge and the ministry. I guess people are just people, even if it is in magical worlds :)
