what I meant was, you're visiting the nook. . .asking for advice. . .from Queen Trisha. Only fitting you're queen too.

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments you're most likely going to get approved (at least at the very beginning) for books that have less reviews and available from small presses, so try those out first

How long will it take until I get good books?

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments and what i'd especially say is to request stuff and mark stuff as wish for it even though you have a less chance, because a) you might get approved easily because you're just starting out and can control your ratio with little effort, and b) any wish for it books that become available for request are listed in the weekly checklist email that we get from netgalley (subscribe to this if you have disabled it, it's pretty useful)

How do you get approved for the book? What criteria do they check?

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments and don't lose hope if you get denied, it gets very very easy to get approved as you go along (cue me with 96 approved titles and around 40 read, which means i am very much behind)

Hershey (ladystardust28) | 16374 comments Available for request? What do you mean by that?

it really depends on what kind of books you're going for,....in general i think it's harder for one to get fantasy books by large presses and extremely popular romances, but even slightly smaller presses will most likely approve you

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments Aashi wrote: "Trisha write: no, i'd say you have a good chance for that one, one of my firends, i htink it was ritz, got it as their first netgalley arc

how regularly you read and review, your review ratio, how much outreach you have (firends and followers) whether you have a book blog, whether you have an instagram, twitter, youtube, etc, and it helps if you have a good mor eor less professional looking bio

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments Aashi wrote: "Available for request? What do you mean by that?"

if you go to the book page, there will be a button saying request....sometimes this isn't there and there might be either a wish for it, or a read now in it'ss place

message 6665: by Hershey (new)

Hershey (ladystardust28) | 16374 comments So the more popular reviews I write, the more easy to get approved? Not counting fantasy ofc

message 6666: by Hershey (new)

Hershey (ladystardust28) | 16374 comments I don't have any blog or social media nor am I going to get one but does it drop my chances even in later stage?

Hershey (ladystardust28) | 16374 comments Among Request, wish for it, read now... which is the best option?

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments Aashi wrote: "So the more popular reviews I write, the more easy to get approved? Not counting fantasy ofc"

no, not necesarily, you just need to have outreach....though i will say this, the biggest criteria they consider is definitely the review ratio, so it doesn't really matter how good of a review you write, though i'm pretty sure popular reviews will make a difference

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments Aashi wrote: "I don't have any blog or social media nor am I going to get one but does it drop my chances even in later stage?"

again, it will depend on the kind of reviewere the publisher is looking for

Will the publisher look for only one person or a group

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments Trisha wrote: "say you're requesting a book, say this one which i requested just last night because i have the text version, but i'd like the saudio if available: https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/boo..."

where it says the publisher name, bookouture (which is a publishing house that approves a lot of my requests, so i like them, along with entangled), click on it, and it will take you to the publisher page. there you can click on publisher prefernces and see what they like, in this case there's nothing there so i picked a bad example, so i'll piuck another one

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments so this is kensington, a publishing house that approved my request for a letter to three witches: https://www.netgalley.com/catalog/pub...

their approval prefernces are:
Kensington’s approval preferences for NetGalley

Kensington reserves the right to accept or decline requests on a case by case basis.

**Please note that Kensington is using NetGalley for publicity and marketing purposes only.**

Your request will likely be approved:
• if you already receive printed galleys from Kensington.
• if you are a regular reviewer and you include information about the publications you review for as well as links to some recent reviews
• if you are a librarian who includes information about your ALA membership or other supporting material in your bio

Regarding bloggers:
• Blog should be updated daily or almost daily and have a significant number of followers
• Blog content must be relevant to the book being requested (e.g., a science fiction blogger requesting a literary novel or a YA site requesting a political nonfiction title is unlikely to be approved)
• Requesters *must* include a link to their website/blog
• Requesters *must* include information about their “reach.” For example: the number of unique visitors or how many comments are posted each month, the number of Twitter/Facebook followers, or how many reviews are posted each week.
• Requesters should have *above average means of spreading the word about books*. (Reviews on sites such as LibraryThing, GoodReads, and Amazon/BN.com are not sufficient.)

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments Aashi wrote: "Among Request, wish for it, read now... which is the best option?"

read now gives you the book instantly, request means a publisher will either approve or decline your request (you'll get an email in any case) and wish for it is a near no chance of getting it....i've only got one wish for it approved, and that was from a comparatively small press

no good number for this, but the more you have the better.....if you're slightly self conscious like i was when starting out with my blog, just don't include it, but it's best if you....also some publishers might have a threshold, like a limit to which they might approve, liek they will only approve if you ahev more than say 100 followers

Trisha (semi-hiatus) (booksreviewsandprocrastination) | 5341 comments Aashi wrote: "What is the average for means of spreading the word about books?"

ah, that means you shoudl be posting on sites other than goodreads and librarything (like amazon or other sites that are directly on the booksellers...i don't do this but i stil get approved in some cases, like this one)...i have to properly set up my storygraph account and readerly, along with reedsy, and then i'll include those in my bio too, which shoudl help approvals

i don't really get what you mean? i don't think there's anything like teams, but if you mean like arc review teams for specific authors or somehting, then i don't think so. i htink it's one person only because that's how i get my stuff
