This is a place to discuss you're overall thoughts AFTER YOU'VE READ THE BOOK as you can probably tell by the title. ( Travel at your own risk! )

May (theladymidnight) Rating: 5 stars
Favourite Part: When Bree embraced her history and decided to help fight in the Order's cause. I really liked learning about both root and the magical system the Order uses. The magic system was unique and cool to learn about!
Favourite Character: Bree (she was a great protagonist!) & Sel (once I got to know him, I ended up loving his character!!)
Least Favourite Character: I hated Vaghun and all the other characters who were rude to Bree
Least Favourite Part: It was a little confusing at times with all the terms. Also, I kind of wish we saw more of Nick. I felt the book was mostly focused on Bree and Sel. I like Nick's character and I felt like we didn't see him as much as the other two.
Themes/Discussion: This book did a great job discussing the topic of handling grief since everyone handles it differently. I also was impressed with how the author handles the topic of race. This is probably my first fantasy novel that mentioned the problems surrounding racisms. The only other time I've seen this was when I read a contemporary novel, The Hate U Give.

Rating: 4.5 stars!

Favourite Part: Every part where Bree put other people in their place. Also when Bree finally got together with Nick (though it was very quick)

Favourite Character: I loved Sel's character by the end. I also loved Bree! Part of me wanted them to get together over Nick and Bree.

Least Favourite Character: I did not like the police officer or Vaughn. He was a sore loser. (view spoiler)

Least Favourite Part: I didn't like how much info dumping there was and within short periods of each other. It made it harder to understand the world with so much of it thrown at you in short periods of time. Little processing time.

Themes/Discussions: I think it was cool how Ms.Deonn integrated the discussion of race/racism through the Legendborn society. I wanted to see if any of them would notice the imbalance and lack of diversity in their society.

cherelle (cherelle-aboltoutofthebook) | 18 comments rating: 3.5 stars

favourite part: the ending and all that banter

favourite character: ofc bree... and also sel and William

least favourite character: the bad guys and also nick (sorry!!)

least favourite part: hmm i loved the plot though the ending felt a little cliche? and it was a bit unrealistic (view spoiler)

themes/discussions: definitely the theme of racism, gender was emphasized really impactfully! i loved the topic of grief as well, handled realistically and brutally

thanks eryn for facilitating the group botm!!

AHHH! I loved William! How could I forget him?!

I definitely agree that the training portion of the story was unrealistic. While my head was spinning Bree was grasping these concepts like they were always in the back of her head or something!

Thank you for reading the group book! 💙
