James | 2 comments Possibly set in the 1950's. There are 2 daughters and a dad that I remember being in the book and one daughter was physically disabled, while the other was average. The father was nicer to the disabled daughter and pretty terrible to the other one from what I remember which causes her to run away from the family to be with a black woman in New York. The father finds her and takes her back home to abuse and rape her. She becomes pregnant with twins and drowns them which the younger daughter (disabled one) remembers as two kittens almost drowning. For now this is all I remember but will try to update.

James, what's the genre or mood (which we need to add to the header/topic title) - e.g., for adult drama, suspense, horror?

I added some details to the header/topic title. You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Natasha | 250 comments This sounds like Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald, though with a few details and chronology shifted. There are more than two daughters, though there is one who falls in love with a Black woman in New York and one who is disabled from polio. The father is abusive and someone does attempt to drown newborn twins. It is set in Canada. It was initially published in 1996, but had a new edition published in 2002. Does that look and sound familiar?

Following up on Natasha's suggestion, here is Wikipedia's plot summary - with Spoilers - of Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fall_on...

Here's one of the Google Books previews: https://books.google.com/books?id=JSp... There are different cover images.

You're welcome. I have to remind myself to check Wikipedia for plot summaries (with spoilers). It's a great resource for book detectives.
