My antipode is smack in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Joanne, my antipode is in the water off the west coast of Australia, just off of Perth too! Where do you live?

From New York state, my apposite point is the ocean west of Australia. The city that is the greatest distance from me is Augusta Australia, the westernmost point of Australia.

Thanks for sharing the links! I found Antipodes on geodatos too: https://www.geodatos.net. Geodatos shows map areas, and matches to some cities. I found some similar antipodes to yours- such as Philippines to a city in Brazil. The next step will be to find books you really want to read with tags for those areas.
Many of the books I want to read are in locations that don't have good antipodes, since 70% of the world is water. I really hope Nicole adjusts the rules/scoring for this game. I hate that there is only one winner, and that we don't simply earn points for each book we read in the challenge.

Robin P wrote: "Perth and Bermuda are opposite, that is interesting! Most of the US lands in the ocean."But you can't find anything shelved 5 times for Perth. or Western Australia or Penguin Island. I already checked since Perth is the furthest city from my starting point.
Ocean west of Perth Australia. Now I have several friends in Perth so if I manage to swim or float to Perth, I will be taken in!
Nancy, I am not adjusting the rules so that players earn points for each book they read. This game is structured more like Poll Book Tally in that way, you do not get PP per book but instead get “something else.” In Poll Ballot it was Electoral College votes and here it is miles. However, we have not laid out ANY plan for awarding participation points, and you know by now that we do not leave people high and dry without any points!
There will be one official winner, but we often acknowledge other things as well. What will those be? Who knows! We like to see how the game unfolds a bit because the players are often more creative in how they challenge themselves than Anita and I are!
Just for the fun of it, I might investigate the cost of my air fare on these journeys, always choosing the least expensive option. Mabe I can win recognition for spending the most, or least $$ for traveling around the world! Hmmmm, don't think you can fly to Antartica.
There's really only one I have a significant list for in my TBR. Otherwise I have only one or two I can read and they aren't my preferred reading. I'll still have something to read though. I cast my vote.

I really liked that you gave bonus points to people who read all 51 states in poll ballot. I would have liked it even more if I knew you were going to do that before the game was over. I read 250 books and I would have very happily used all the tags. Instead I followed the game objective and used higher point tags whenever I could, so my reading was less balanced than it might have been.
In any event, I am challenging myself to hit all the major continents plus extra regions in large continents. My original challenge did not include my home country as one of the 12 areas, but I plan to read extra books anyway.
I hope you know that I'm just making suggestions that I think might be helpful. No one person can anticipate all the ways a challenge could be better, or the pitfalls that might exist. But there are plenty of people here who could help. [The value of participatory decision making has been drilled into me for 40 years. I can't help myself. I will always make suggestions, and I will always ask for them. I have lots of training games that demonstrate the value of gaining input from members when making decisions.]

We welcome suggestions and feedback, and we always consider them behind the scenes even if we do not end up adopting them.
Mental Health has tons of great choices, don't write it off just because it sounds like a downer. Will Grayson, Will Grayson is there, and many great others.

I have a friend in my local bookclub who keeps reminding me to read a book by a local author (who came to a meeting on a night I was teaching). I might hint that she could tag her favorite local books on gr.

I haven't flown out of the country in at least 10 years.
I wonder how much it would cost to go to Antarctica. As part of my fantasy trip, I would magically have a skill that is urgently needed at one of the research stations, or maybe pay for a fake identity of someone who is scheduled to go there. I don't think they let tourists in.
While I'm at it, I might pretend that I was endowed with the magical ability to fly (as the bird flies). Or maybe I could use portals like in Harry Potter or 10000 doors of January.
NancyJ wrote: "I wonder how much it would cost to go to Antarctica. ..."This is one of my real-life dream trips! Along with a safari in Africa and the Galapagos. I doubt that any will ever actually happen, though.
