So I read this book/series (I can't remember if it was a single book or a series) in 2010/11.

The storyline follows two brothers who escape through secret tunnels after their city is attacked and invaded by an army and end up meeting other children who managed to escape.

The children meet a man who claims to be a spy for a friendly force and could help and protect children. He demonstrated this by parading down the centre of the city with the children and never being fired upon.

The man trained the children into becoming a resistance to fight the invaders. Their first 'mission' was to blow up a theatre with grenades which had high ranking enemy officials inside; however, they ended up killing the resistance that was formed by the surviving adults.

After a while one of the brothers starts to question the man and finds out the 'spy' is actually with the invaders, trying to brainwash and recruit the children. After finding this out, the brothers have a fight because the second brother doesn't believe it and decided to stay while the first brother leaves as he is about to be killed by the 'spy'.

In the final battle scene, the two brothers fight each other and one of them dies??? (or gravelly injured).

Michael, what's the genre - e.g., YA fantasy, science fiction, dystopia, military? Are the invaders from another world or planet?

Michael | 6 comments Hi Kris,
I'm not sure of the genre, it has been 10 years since I read it but I think it might be fantasy.

No the invaders are just from a different nation.

Michael | 6 comments I remember a part where the 'spy' says something along the lines of the enemy wouldn't dare harm him or anyone with him at risk of getting his forces involved and gains the children's trust by carrying a dead child through enemy lines without being fired upon as a symbol of what they did.

Michael | 6 comments And I'm pretty sure the last battle scene involved one if the brothers piloting some sort of air craft...
Wish I could remember more details
