brea d | 2 comments best classics to start with:
the bell jar by sylvia plath - easy read, on the more modern side of ‘classic’, not too long, good way to get used to older literature. unfortunately quite a bit of racism!
broken wings by khalil ghibran - poetic, short and quick to read, understandable vocabulary, beautiful.
the picture of dorian gray - good plot, long winded dialogue at times, easy to grasp message and theme, a classic!
one hundred years of solitude - hispanic literature! beautiful story, magical realism, u will need a family tree!!!

Heather | 97 comments The Great Gatsby is excellent. Peter Pan is another good one for a new classics reader. Treasure Island, Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins and The Wizard of Oz series are also good. If they don't mind a little horror or macabre then I would recommend Picture of Dorian Grey, Dr Jekyll and Hyde or Sherlock Holmes. For a "newer classic" I would recommend The Princess Bride, Coraline or Lord of the Flies.

BerlinDaze | 1 comments Introductory classics? You can't go wrong with Dumas.

1200+ pages of The Count of Monte Cristo just fly by.

OK. But Dumas is pretty much the only classic author I like. :)

Aina (ainaraafr) | 27 comments Little Women
A Christmas Carol
The yellow wallpaper

If you want them easier than those, I'd recommend you to start first with classic stories such as Heidi, Peter Pan... ;)
