George P. | 422 comments Astradeni by Eugenia Fakinou of Greece, 1982. Planning to start Murphy by Samuel Beckett, 1938, in a couple days. It's my first book by Beckett who was a Nobel laureate. I visited his homeland of Ireland last fall so I think I should read more of the classic books by Irish authors I haven't read yet.

Teri-K | 1127 comments Just started Doctor Thorne by Trollope. I really want to dive into it, but I have several library books I need to finish, so I'll have to tease myself with little bits here and there for a while.

And I'm rereading The Dialogues of Plato. It's been decades since I picked them up.

Moonlight | 1 comments Crime and Punishment

Funny enough, I was actually planning on reading another story of his (which I didn't even realize was by him!) "The Double", and plan to after I finish Crime and Punishment! So far, I'm really enjoying it! (Also, I'm reading two different versions- one on my phone, and one copy of the book- both have different page numbers than both each other and the listing I have posted! Which makes for a bit of an interesting back and forth based on what I last read from, and a strange time updating where exactly I am in the book.)

I so agree. That's why I started on GR after DH died - I missed being able to mention I'd finished a book to someone. Here I can mark it read, rate it, add a review or maybe use it for a challenge. Taking time to notice the little things is so important. So congrats on your milestone.

As for what I'm reading, I'm working my way through Cyril Hare's Francis Pettigrew series. I've stalled a bit on Death Walks the Wood, though I really enjoyed the earlier ones.

RJ - Slayer of Trolls (hawk5391yahoocom) | 943 comments Darren wrote: "ok so last night finished/this morning shelved no. 1000!..."

Darren that is awesome! Congratulations!

I always have trouble trying to figure out how to calculate my "Books Read." It's hard to remember what books I read prior to becoming a member of Goodreads and using this website to track my reading. Also, do I include books I read as a child? Like for example the entire library of Hardy Boys books or the works of Dr. Seuss? Do I count comic books? Graphic novels? How about short stories? And what about re-reads? Or audiobooks? And if an audiobook counts, then do I count the books someone read to me in my youth?

None of this should detract from your accomplishment though, Darren. Congratulations again on hitting 1,000! I am currently at 881 in my imperfect numbering system and at present pace I should be joining that 1,000 club in 2025.... ;-)

message 1598: by Ron (new)

Ron I've decided to start with The Wheel of Time Series 1-15 Books Collection Set Pack (Book 1-14) By Robert Jordan .

I've never read over 4 books in a series before so the notion of 15 seems very daunting. I've had this collection on my shelf though for over a year and have really been wanting to get to it.

I've heard of suggestions to do one book a month, but that would take me a year and three months and that feels too long. Instead I think I'm going to just go with a book after each I finish rather than a time frame.

Starting with book 1: The Eye of the World

I started on it about 25 years ago and learned one thing: Do not start on a series that long that hasn’t been finished! It is an excellent series, but I never got to the end. Some day I start again from book one.

25% so far and it is super! Maybe 5 stars. It is a bit of a culture chock: Definitely not written in English. You can tell even from the Danish translation.

I love how the “story” unfolds. Mini spoiler: (view spoiler) Wow!
