Our current series discussion will finish at the end of January 2021, so I am opening nominations for a series to begin February 1, 2021.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Rules for nominating a series:
1. The series must be complete (as far as we can reasonably tell).
2. The series must be fantasy (I know, seems obvious).
3. The series should not be targeted mainly for middle school or a YA audience.
4. The series must not be one the group has already read. Look through the website or the group bookshelf to see if we’ve read it before.
5. Each member may nominate one series. Please tell us the name of the series, the author, how many books are in the series, and the name of first book in the series. If you want to add more information, please feel free.
6. Each member may second one other nomination in addition to making their own nomination.
7. In order to move into the polling, a nomination must be seconded.
8. Nominations will be open through December 19. We will then have a poll. If the results are close, we may have a run-off poll between or among the top vote-getters.

Nominations are open! Let’s go!
Kathi, for the mods

Nominated and seconded:
The Lightbringer Series (5 books) by Brent Weeks, starting with The Black Prism
The Queen’s Thief series (6 books) by Megan Whalen Turner, starting with The Thief
Legends of the First Empire (6 books) by Michael J. Sullivan, starting with Age of Myth
The Fortress series (5 books) by C.J. Cherryh, starting with Fortress in the Eye of Time
The Collegia Magica series (3 books) by Carol Berg, starting with The Spirit Lens
The Seventh Sword series (4 books) by Dave Duncan, starting with The Reluctant Swordsman
The Wounded Kingdom trilogy (3 books) by R.J. Barker, starting with Age of Assassins

Nominated but not yet seconded:
The Fool’s Gold trilogy (3 books) by Jude Fisher, starting with Sorcery Rising

Nominated but disqualified :
The Riyria Chronicles by Michael J. Sullivan, not a completed series

Michelle (michellehartline) | 135 comments I was going to nominate The Thief, by Megan Whalen Turner, but I think it may be considered YA. Let me think...

message 3: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 135 comments What about the Greatcoats series by Sebastian de Castell? It's a four-book series, starting with Traitor's Blade

message 4: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 135 comments Or maybe Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria Chronicles, starting with The Crown Tower? I see that the Riyria Revelations series is in the bookshelf, but not the Chronicles. There are four books in the latter.

Ryan Dash (ryandash) | 57 comments I nominate the Lightbringer series by Brent Weeks starting with The Black Prism

Michelle, each group member may nominate one series and may second one other nomination. Which of your suggestions is your nomination, or are you still deciding?

Michelle (michellehartline) | 135 comments You're right, I'm sorry! I guess I was mulling things over and posting at the same time! I'll officially nominate the Riyria Chronicles then.

Thanks for clarifying! Unfortunately, Michael J. Sullivan, author of the Riyria Chronicles, has stated he is writing a 5th book in that series, so it is not a completed series and therefore, isn’t eligible (see rule #1 in the first post). If you want to stay with Sullivan’s work, his Legends of the First Empire series is complete. Otherwise, please feel free to nominate something else. Thanks!

It’s on the edge of being YA, but it sounds like the later books in the series are less so. Thanks for the nomination (and second).

So, I was wracking my brain trying to decide which of my wish-list series to nominate, but I finally settled on C. J. Cherryh's fantasy Fortress series Fortress in the Eye of Time. I believe there are 6 books. CJ Cherryh is a favorite of a lot of us and a true classic.

I think The Thief is too YA myself, but kathy answered first! lolol Post something good that I can second!

message 12: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 135 comments I'll second The Thief.

Michelle (michellehartline) | 135 comments And I'll nominate Sullivan's Legends of the First Empire. Thank you for the clarification about a forthcoming book.

I’ll add a nomination— The Collegia Magica series (3 books) by Carol Berg, starting with The Spirit Lens. We have read another series by Berg, and I think she’s a terrific writer with twisty plots and interesting characters.

Just a reminder that nominations and seconds are open through Saturday, December 19. Each nomination must have a second in order to move into the polls. As of right now, there are only 3 series that have been seconded, and 3 more have been nominated but not seconded.

Post #1 in this topic thread gives all the pertinent info. Let’s get a few more nominations and seconds!

Thanks!

I will second this.

Nachiket | 19 comments I nominate- The Wounded Kingdom Trilogy (3 books) by R.J. Barker starting with Age of Assassins

Reviews seem good and the books in the series get progressively better (according to reviews and ratings). so I'm intrigued.

A couple of short reviews I read:

1) "So I randomly heard of this novel trilogy and decided to pick it up. It was just AMAZING. Holy balls... The first two books were great but man King of Assassins (the 3rd book) was just unbelievable. It left my mouth hanging on the floor so so many times and I just have to say if you're on the fence of reading this.... It will be absolutely worth your time."

2) "I really enjoyed the first book, but two and three were downright amazing!"

Renee G. | 2 comments I'd like to second The Reluctant Swordsman.
