Sissi | 5 comments I read this book in grade 7-8 (2014 probably) and it's basically told in the perspective of a physically and mentally disabled girl in a care home and another girl around the same age who lost her friend in a car accident. I don't remember any names (very sorry) but I would love if I could read the book again. All I remember was the cover is pink and there was a certain connection between the handicapped girl and her colorful drawings of rocks and such that are taped to her ceiling. Another detail is that the girl who lost her best friend is selectively mute after losing her best friend because she doesn't feel like talking anymore because of her death. Meanwhile, the disabled girl wonders why she doesn't talk when she has a voice because she physically cannot speak. The genre is fiction for teens/YA and it's mainly about friendship and getting over the loss of someone important.

SPOILERS AHEAD

In the end, the disabled girl passes away (I'm pretty sure) from pneumonia.

I would really appreciate if someone could help me, please. It would mean the world to me. Thank you!

Possibly The Color of Silence ?

description: After being involved in an accident that killed her best friend Alex feels her life has come to an end. Ordered by a judge to do community service, she must spend time at a hospital with a girl named Joanie, who has minimal control of her body and no speech. Brought together by accident, Alex and Joanie have experienced the helplessness of silence. Their growing connection may lead them both to find the power of their voices.
