This is a series, and at the start the male protag is doing laundry when his younger sister comes in, and falls through down something, I believe it's through the vent of the room, and male protag follows to try and save her. They fall all the way through and on the other side they land in a fantasy world, where the cockroaches are huge and they talk, and the people there right on bats. There's also some form of prophecy, and the male protag fits said prophecy.
