Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Just read for the first time She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith (1773) and was amused to note a few passages that Jane Austen echoes in Pride and Prejudice. The heroine of this farcical play is quite Elizabeth-like in her quick wit and good-natured raillery; and I even thought I detected a trace of the hero in Mr. Darcy when he says, “a single glance from a pair of fine eyes has totally overset my resolution.” The play is much better seen than read, but there are enough laugh-out-loud moments even on the page. My review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....

I had no idea. Thanks for putting us onto it, Abigail!

Oh, and count it for the challenge since you spotted those echoes. :)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Hare’s another: the heroine saying, “The folly of most people is rather an object of mirth than uneasiness.”

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 466 comments This is not on sale; however, the author has donated her royalties to a gofundme for a friend that has been diagnosed with ALS. Here is the excerpt from her newsletter. Forgive me for posting if I'm not supposed to.

A Mistletoe Promise (The Wishing Well #4.5) by Sofi Laporte A Mistletoe Promise

From her newsletter:

"My Christmas Wishing Well novella A Mistletoe Promise is releasing today! Come and read Frances and Percy's story, which is set in Miss Hilversham's Seminary for Young Ladies in Bath.

I am normally happy about my releases...but not today. Today, I am heartbroken.

My childhood friend Vincent DeWitte has been diagnosed with the terminal illness Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It is a progressive disease of the nervous system. If you remember the ice bucket challenge, it was a fundraiser for this horrific illness. There is no cure. He's a dad of two kids. And he's been given less than 3 years to live.

If you've read my books, you know that "wishes coming true" is a theme that runs through all my books. After all, it's called The Wishing Well series!

I have therefore decided to donate the royalties of this book to my friend Vincent to help him realize his last wishes and dreams.

If you feel you would like to learn more about Vincent or donate directly, you can do so here:

https://www.gofundme.com/f/hel...

Thank you for reading this. Thank you for your love and support!

Sofi"

Our thoughts and prayers go out to this man and his family. How wonderful of his friend and author Sofi Laporte to help during his time of need. Blessings to all.
