Sisters who grew up practically invisible to their parents whose partying lifestyle leave them deeply scarred, find a way to survive their emotional damage after a California earthquake destroys their family restaurant. One searches for love in all the wrong places and the other hides from it. Kit and Josie lose each other for 14 years until Kit sees Josie on a tv news report in Auckland New Zealand. How is that possible? Josie died in a train explosion in France. Kit will travel to NZ only to discover Josie is alive, living a secret life. This is a story about how neglect and abusive choices effect young lives.

"Maybe someone can convince me to finish this novel. The premise sounds reasonably lively — one sister, a medical doctor, sees a newspaper picture with her dead sister (killed in a terrorist attack) in the background. She travels from the US (San Francisco?) to New Zealand to find her and see what's up. It seems like I have read half the book and all that is happened is the sister who went looking found some guy in a restaurant/bar. I quit before the onset of heaving bosoms. The other sister has made an appearance, but I will make no comment as to avoid any accusation of spoilers. Suffice it to say that their paths have not crossed. And I really can't imagine it being very interesting if they ever do. (less)"
