Thank you so much!! That was the series! 😁
Uncertain about author's gender.
I think this was a new-ish book when I read it, and it's the first in a series. I never owned any others from the series, so I only know the plot of this one.
Main character is girl probably 11-13 years old, name starts with "J"; has strange nickname (shortened from her first name) that she may not like, but I can't remember. Her name makes me think of Junie B. Jones, and it's definitely not that.
Something is stolen from one of the tweens at her school/youth group?, and she tries to figure out who did it. I can't remember if this was specifically a mystery book or not, or if there was much sleuthing at all.
Everyone suspects a shy kid, Amos (whom they nickname "the Turtle" because of how he hunches his head). Amos and his family - I think - are new to the small-ish town. The girl "J____" meets his rather large family at one point; they live kind of in the country, past a long (broken?) fence in a field. Amos has a younger sister close to their age, I believe, and possibly a grandpa living with them.
SPOILER
Amos is not guilty; the protagonist finally nabs the thief at a lock-in or sleepover at the school or church. I think it was a yo-yo?? that was stolen. She put glow-in-the-dark paint on it, and they turn out the lights. The thief has glowing fingers. I think it was the meanest person in the school/church (a boy? a rich boy?) who was taking things.
