YA Fantasy series. Boy finds and raises a dragon in a cave while hiding it from his village. After they are found out, the dragon is allowed to live in town and a few other characters get dragons too. (NOT Eragon)

I read 2 or 3 books in this series between 2012 and 2014. I borrowed them on kindle using what I think now is kindle unlimited(but it wasn't called that then) so Im not sure if it was a kindle exclusive book or not.

From what I remember, the boy was trying to figure out his vocation before finding the dragon (I cant remember the dragon's gender) and his job has something to do with magical globes that were used for lighting rooms and stuff (I think he cleaned them). Also, for some reason I think the globes were powered by glowing moss, but it might just be magic.
I also think the calendar was split into months based on 4 or 5 colors (black, white, blue, red, and maybe yellow?), but I may also be thinking of a different series with this detail)

Im pretty sure the 2nd book is mostly about the MC teaching his friends, who now have dragons(I cant remember why/how), how to care for them and eventually fly. The MC's best friend is a boy that is afraid of heights, so a big part of the second book is getting him to face his fears or something like that. Also, this same boy becomes boyfriends with the MC at the end of the 2nd book (and it was super cute. I remember being super excited that they were gay)

One scene I remember (I don't remember which book it was in, but I feel like it was in the 2nd) is the group of friends are traveling through caves (where the dragon was originally kept) and they come to an underground lake/swamp(it might be mud) that they must cross. The girl of the group either doesn't know how to swim or doesnt want to get dirty so she is very conflicted on what to do. Also, I think there is a part about some of them not fitting through a crevace, so only one or two of them can (or something like that). I think these two scenes are at about the same time.

Also, I think the 3rd book follows a different character, a girl that lives in a different part of the continent or something that has a dragon and maybe headed towards the village from the first 2 books. Im pretty sure I never finished this book, so I don't know for sure.
