Yes and yes.

MountainKat | 31670 comments Amanda wrote: "If there are more than one authors, do they all have to be new to you?"

No, but if it is a well known duo or anthology combo I will be checking for the other authors on the read shelf to see if other books by the duo or combo have been read. Anthologies and books by duos are frequently listed on shelves and in the search by only one of the authors.

Hunted by Cassandra Faye

Also there is no page count listed in any of the editions... But according to my kindle, it's 179 pages.

In a historical book, does a governess work?

message 211: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments Hi Kat - for teacher - will on the job training for mentor type role work, or does the student need to be younger?

(I would assume it would still need the 'student' or 'teacher' tag/list etc...)

message 212: by Aiswrya (new)

Aiswrya | 2053 comments Kat, will alternate universes be considered as being outside the US? It technically is :P

message 213: by Nayara (new)

Nayara (nayalink) | 630 comments Kat, I have a lot of questions lol

1. Does the tags "academic" and "scholar character" works for apple?

2. Can I use the MPG Spy Thriller > Espionage for romantic suspense?

3. "Intelectual heroine" for apple?

4. Does an MPG European Literature > Italian Literature works for abroad?

message 216: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments Adding to the "scholar" and "academic" question...does apprentices also work?

And about new to you authors...what happens if you DNF the author? Is it new to you or not? :)

Yes it is black enough, please include a link to the book's Amazon page for page count confirmation. 😊

Yes, governess works.

Hmmm, that is really close to what I decided for coaches. I suppose if it had the appropriate teacher or student tags it would work. But 'mentor' as a tag or in precis is too broad. That is more advisor or counselor than teacher.

message 220: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31670 comments Nayara wrote: "Kat, I have a lot of questions lol

3. "Intelectual he..."

1. Those work, in context.

2. I specifically need a suspense tag for that task.

3. Not alone, no that tag does not work. Just means a smart heroine, not a school setting or teacher.

4. My understanding of those terms would indicate that they are written in/by Italian or European authors - not that the books are set there. For example, many American authors write books set in Europe - they would still be considered American Literature. So, that tag alone would not work.

message 221: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31670 comments Ezinwanyi wrote: "Does “paid companion” in the historical romance novel work as a governess?"

No, a paid companion is just that, not a teacher.

In context yes.

Apprentice would work, as aways in context.

As for DNFs, if the author's work is not marked as read, does not have a read date or a rating - and someone is willing to go there again - I would say that is ok.

MountainKat | 31670 comments Aiswrya wrote: "Kat, will alternate universes be considered as being outside the US? It technically is :P"

I'm not ignoring this question - I'm trying to work out an answer...

message 226: by D.G. (last edited Dec 18, 2020 11:17AM) (new)

D.G. | 4477 comments Hey Kat - What do you mean in context? In the case of scholar, academic or apprentice should we PM you specific books? I don't know what context we can provide besides tags or mentions in precis.

message 227: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31670 comments MountainKat wrote: "Aiswrya wrote: "Kat, will alternate universes be considered as being outside the US? It technically is :P"

OK - here is the answer.

If the setting is fictional, it must be very clearly set outside the US. So a fictional country would work, a fictional kingdom is ok, or being set in a completely otherworldly setting will be allowed. But a fictional mountain town is going to be harder to prove, sorry. I need to clearly and obviously know that the book is set outside the US.

MountainKat | 31670 comments D.G. wrote: "Hey Kat - What do you mean in context? In the case of scholar, academic or apprentice should we PM you specific books? I don't know what context we can provide besides tags or mentions in precis."

Yes, but the mention of the word doesn't imply that that is what the book is about. For example,

As a former apprentice, he was ready to go into the world on his own...

Leaving academia, the professor began a new career as a carpenter...

Being a scholar was no longer fulfilling, so she left to travel Africa...

In context, apprentice, academia, professor and scholar do not imply that the book fits the task. If you wish, you are free to PM me the book.

MountainKat | 31670 comments Janeylou wrote: "So for teacher ..do they have to be teacher during the book ?"

You do not need to see them actively teaching, but it needs to be a part of who they are. If they are retired and operating a business or something extremely different, I would say that doesn't work. I hope that makes sense.

MountainKat | 31670 comments Diane wrote: "Does 100% of the book have to take place outside of the US? Can it start there before an adventure?"

No, but remember you need to show that part of the book is set outside the US.

MountainKat | 31670 comments Honestly everyone, stick to the spirit of the task and you are going to be fine! I want your books to work!

And Canada is outside the US for this task, right? (no offense to any Canadians!)

Thanks!

I will allow pseudonyms because you simply might not realize they are they same author.

And yes, Canada is outside the US. I know this because I have to use my passport to visit my sister there!

MountainKat | 31670 comments Hi all. I have been a little overwhelmed today trying to get caught up with things outside of this challenge. Yes, I really do some things outside this challenge. 😂 Anyway, I am not sure how quickly I will be getting to team threads to check your posts. The time allowed for corrections will be adjusted depending on quickly I can get through things.

message 241: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31670 comments I'm back. I've made it through the team and Scavenger Hunt threads. There are a few corrections requested, though none in the SH thread. Real life is calling, but hopefully I will get the totals up tonight. 🤞🏼 But unless I asked for a correction - all is well. 😊

MountainKat | 31670 comments 🌹The Bachelor Team Challenge - Round 5🌹
🌹Theme - Quarantine Dating🌹

Date 2 - A - Romantic Getaway - TASK ANNOUNCEMENT

A is for Alibi
- Read a Romantic Suspense book.

To qualify for this task, the selected books need to be tagged as 'suspense', alone or combined. The qualification for this task comes from tags/shelves ONLY. The tag does not have to be MPG, but the book must be tagged at least once to qualify. Please include a link to the top shelves page of your book's qualifying tag (not to the people who have used that tag or to the shelf for the tag!), the number of tags and the top shelves page number in your completion post. This information helps if the link is broken or if the tag moves as they frequently do..

Remember books must be 90 pages (first edition English language Kindle) and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, January 1 @ Midnight US EDT to post your completion(s).

Serial Dating Roses will be limited to 10 per team for this date. Scavenger Hunt Roses will be limited to 10 per person for this date.

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #3 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts!
