Catherine Wadle | 7 comments I read this in the late 80s, early 90s. A girl lives in an apartment building and a new girl moves in. The key point which stands out in my mind, the new girl claims her middle initial "D" stands for "Danger". She is full of wild stories about how exciting her life is and the original girl tends to believe her. At the end of the book, we learn this is all fantasy. The two girls engage in research and try to find out what happened to one of the girl's father.
I thought this was an Apple Publishing book with a yellow cover, but cannot find it. I vaguely remember two girls on the cover, standing in an apartment building hallway.

Rainbowheart | 28688 comments I've read this I think? I'm pretty sure. It sounds super familiar.

Might want to check the Scholastic Apple Paperbacks list.

Catherine Wadle | 7 comments Thanks. I checked, but still no luck. Thought there were a number of other books which were familiar and I may look up again for nostalgia. :-)

Rainbowheart | 28688 comments I looked through my read-as-older-kid shelf, but I don't think it's there.

Was the girl junior high school age or younger, like in elementary school?

Were the girls just friends and neighbors, or did they also go the same school?

Do you remember what happened to the girl's father? Did he die or run off?

Catherine Wadle | 7 comments They were probably around 6th - 8th grade. They were not very young and not really high school aged. This took place during a school break, I think summer, so there was no mention of attending school. Unfortunately, I do not remember what happened with the father. I am actually eager to reread the book to find that out again.

Catherine, how far into the book do you learn about the missing? father?

I added some details to the header/topic title at the top of the page, so your book might be recognized from that description alone. Many members only read the headers.

You can update it by clicking the small "edit" link after the header. This only works on the full Desktop website - not the Mobile website or app. (On the Mobile website, click the "Desktop version" link at the bottom of the page.)

Rainbowheart | 28688 comments Do you remember if you got it from a school book fair or book order?

Might check A Dell Yearling Book, too. I thought there was also a list for Bantam Skylark, but I can't find one. Those were the major kids' paperback imprints at the time.

Catherine Wadle | 7 comments FOUND IT!!! I suddenly remembered a key point. The girls had dreams about the main girl's father and they kept a dream book. That helped me find the book. Thanks all!

Glad you found your book, Catherine. What's the title and author?

message 10: by Rainbowheart (new) - added it

Rainbowheart | 28688 comments Awesome, glad you found it!

The Dream Book by Meg Wolitzer for the link. And I've read it, too. Totally forgot all about it until your post, but that cover rings huge, clanging bells.

Please don't delete all the information in your header and replace it with the book's title, though.
