This thread is open for discussion beginning December 1st! Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed (mark as a spoiler) in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days of the month can be used to catch up if needed! Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads.

I read the first two chapters (view spoiler)[I don't know how I feel about knowing she's from another universe. I mean it's cool, but I think I would've liked to find that out more towards the end instead of the beginning. And now I'm wondering what's going to be the big surprise close to the end..

(view spoiler)[So I was a bit disappointed when it was discovered that the MC we are following is not from the world she's form, because that's a twist that I usually would expect at the end.. But okay, now I expect something better. I thought it was missing something when I was reading chapters 3-4, but things got interesting when she started dying... and now the twist about Bosh. Wanting to take a tyrant down is a.. cliche, but let's see how it'll go. (hide spoiler)]

I really wanted to read this and I added it to my currently reading, hopped over to Libby to grab it from my library, and they do not have it :( so I’m going to try to grab it from another library today.

@mina until chapter 8: (view spoiler)[I'm not the biggest fan of the plot with how they're supposedly taking down a tyrant because same it feels cliche and it just doesn't intrigue me as much compared to if there was something more alien that they have to overcome. If that makes sense. But Cara's character does intrigue me. And I think the book is saying something with it's themes but the plot makes me feel detached. (hide spoiler)]

I got to 53% but wasn't feeling that well so I stopped listening. But I get what you mean, I expected more, I still have half of the book to finish, but since it didn't super surprise me I don't expect things to change much by the end.

The synopsis made it sound more interesting than it actually was. I'm somewhat disappointed. My interest dropped after the 50%, and now I don't know if it was said but I just didn't pay attention or if it wasn't exactly explained.. but why did Adam want her Caralee to come to his world? I agree, the synopsis was more intriguing than the actual book 😂I'm honestly really disappointed, the execution wasn't as emotional and as gripping as it should've been for me. I think my interest dropped around 30% so you did better than me XD

It felt like I was watching everything happen from a glass case where no emotions could penetrate 😬😬

I'm not 100% sure but I think Adam wanted her to work for him? Since she would've been a strong asset. But I don't think I even processed enough that I don't know what she ended up deciding. All I know is that she didn't end up with the girl but it ended on a hopeful note. (hide spoiler)]

Wow this was one of my most anticipated books and it just was not doing things for me 💔

So I probably lost interest about the same time as you did, when it was discovered it's going to be taking down the tyrant.

Yes, he wanted her to work for him but why her why is she so special.. minus the whole dead in most of the worlds thing. Honestly, I wasn't paying much attention in the second half. If there was some nice science explanation for stuff.. I glossed over it. But it was pretty anticlimactic in the end. (hide spoiler)]

Ending was definitely anti climatic. And did you see it coming too? Because I even though it was sort of hopeful in the end, it's what I was expecting to happen anyway and the "tragic" effect wasn't sold on me ksdjflksdj

I don't think anything that interesting happened in the end anyway except someone she cared for died? It was an old man I think but honestly, I wasn't attached at all XD it would have been more tragic if the girl she liked d-worded. Not that I wanted that but I mean... I don't know it didn't have the excitement I thought it would have for a sci-fi which is unfortuante. (hide spoiler)]

I just turned off myself, my only goal was to be done with it, so I don't think I saw things coming, even though thinking now.. cliche. The tragic event was tragic.. but not in the way it was intended.

Even the old dude that's called something like Jean, Gean or something sounds close to that 😂 it didn't feel like it was something wow. He got punished because of her, and he would've ended dead either way.. it's just meh.

Maybe Dell dying would've brought more excitement, but if I think of it... maybe not, because we have some kinda attachment between them, but it wasn't enough evolved for me to care about them. I mean we get to see how Cara feels about Dell, but even that didn't sell me that she loves her. Like you said, it felt like watching it all from a glass case. (hide spoiler)]

HAHAHA it's so obvious we both listened to the audiobook XD yeah I think that's the reason it didn't have an impact cuz he even said himself I believe that he was expecting to die so like... what was the point

yikes, yeah I almost cared about them at the beginning but their relationship was so forgettable for me. Same, I didn't feel involved.

In any case, this has proven that the audiobook is not the route to take 😂 (hide spoiler)]

I don't know how I would've finished this if it wasn't for the audiobook, or even if I would've finished it, but also I'm kinda addicted to audiobooks 😅

Probably should write a review later too, but I'm not really feeling like it now. I'm gonna give it a 3, but like a lower 3 because it needed to be more bad for me to give it 2 stars by my rating system.

If I didn't enjoy my reading experience I just give it two stars XD I do still think this book had great themes though and the way she incorporated them to the plot was nice but again... I just did not care about the conflict

My 2* is if the characters irked me like crazy, but there's still something that I liked, and if it had been done better I would've liked. The representation was good, but...

well I rarely finding characters annoying to that point, it usually also means that the book had little to no reeding qualities for me to focus on aside from the characters being annoying XD

I guess it also depends from book to book. If the book doesn't have anything to give besides annoying characters... that's a DNF.

Yes, they are subjective, sooo subjective.
