The Other Emily (Group Read - Spring 2021)
With Love and Mystery from Dean Koontz
From the Desk of Dean Koontz
Dear Readers,
February is a special month. It’s the only one to begin with an F, and it’s the shortest of the twelve, so right there is a lot to celebrate with a few cases of good cabernet. Furthermore, having been born and raised in Pennsylvania, I take enormous pride in the fact that my native state celebrates Groundhog Day, when Bill Murray tells us how much more winter we’re going to have, so just shut up and endure it, while men in formalwear torment a helpless woodland creature.
Then there is Valentine’s Day. I remember so well my years in middle school, when we children would spend our lunch money to buy cards expressing our fondness for one another. The girls I found charming were always happy to receive my cards, laughing with delight as they threw them into the stew pot to simmer with eye of toad and wing of bat. I adored them all, though none of them could cook anything worth eating.
Now, in 2021, February is even more special than ever, because you can preorder my novel, The Other Emily, which will be published by Thomas & Mercer on March 23rd. And in the best spirit of Valentine’s Day, it is a love story. Yes, one review essentially said it will scare your butt off. But love is always a little scary, committing yourself to another person, plighting your troth when you don’t even know what the hell that means. But you know me, my friends: a romantic, an optimist, a believer in love. I will take your hand and lead you through the dark to the light, even if we’re a little chilled and wet when we get there.
All best wishes from everyone in Koontzland,
Dean
Dead for ten years. Now back, as beautiful as ever. The Other Emily is a twisting journey of lost love, impossible second chances, and terrifying promises. And for a limited-time, you can pre-order the Kindle book now for $6.99 and the hardcover edition for $15.99.

Goodie Goodie Goodie! Can't wait as it's coming right to my door this time! yay

Cute dog! I thought the book wasn't available until Tuesday. Did the library let that one slip through?
Back when I worked at bookstores, new books would arrive before release date but after the Harry Potter craziness, they had warning tape and big titles we couldn't even open the box. Harry Potter had to be locked up.
Lesser known new releases I could open the box, check out the bookcovers, but we weren't supposed to put them out on the sales floor until release date, which typically falls on Tuesday. I haven't worked in a bookstore in a decade, but it used to be a big deal. Booksellers could get in major trouble for selling a book before release date. I don't know how it works for libraries.
As usual, I will be using audiobook to help me through The Other Emily. Although I have ordered a hardcover, I'll be waiting on an audio from the library. I may be a bit behind some of you, but I'll catch up.
Last year my library was closed during the release of Devoted and at that time it was taking Amazon up to one month to ship books. I was really behind on reading Devoted. Luckily by the time Elsewhere was released my library had reopened with limited services and Amazon was shipping books as usual.
Lucky Dog, Jerry!
Happy Reading Koontzlanders!

will be holding a virtual event on their Facebook page on March 23, 2021 6:15pm till 7:15pm.
Dean Koontz in conversation with Michael Koryta.
Not promoting, just thought you'd like to know. I think they'll be discussing The Other Emily.

But I will be along soon.
Matthew wrote: "I'll grab this one whenever it becomes available at one of the libraries around here. So, I'll be a bit late to the party but shall be reading this one."
Me too. As many of you know, I am old school. I don't do ebooks or eaudiobooks. My hardcover copy arrived today, but I'm waiting to get audiobook on CD from the library.

I decided to go ahead and order my own audiobook rather than wait for library copy. will start reading The Other Emily in about a week.

Eh? Not really worth the wait--though I would have read it anyway
Maybe you guys should kick me out. Because I thought this particular Koontz book was not AT ALL up to his usual standards.
I'm going to let my review speak for itself. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Please feel free to lambast me. And I will gladly discuss. I do love Koontz, usually. Just not this one.

Now Dean needs to pull a King and put out a 2nd book within 6 months!

Ah, November. The trees shed their leaves in a litter of colorful confetti. The air is crisp and bracing. Daylight savings time ends, and it’s heartening to know that our accounts at the Bank of Light are brimming with thousands of hours of daylight that we can use to extend our lives for many years.
It is that time of year when we celebrate life and give thanks for our friends, family, and good fortune. Although, of course, it is also that time of year that is a waking nightmare of horror and terror for turkeys; they can run, but they cannot hide from death, and in fact they can’t even run all that well. Winter is coming, which means that uncountable small animals will perish in the bitter cold. But we are not field mice or squirrels, which is yet another reason to celebrate.
In addition to this warm seasonal greeting that I’m sending your way, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that my new novel, Elsewhere , is available in hardcover, eBook, and audio. Likewise, the trade paperback of Devoted is now available, and my novel for March of next year, The Other Emily , can be preordered now. Like our tasty feathered friend, you cannot hide from me, and if you run, I will find you, which is not a threat but only a friendly reminder.
Warmest autumn wishes,
Dean
