The Author is Female.

Written in a first person perspective from the view of the power armour female mercenary.

I think the title is something like 'Queen Bee' or 'Queens Gambit', possibly named after the ship she joins, the three book titles play around this Queen theme I think. '

They travel through space and visit planets and space stations in the course of the story.

The character spends a lot of time describing her weapons and armour, think 'gun nut' vibe. her high end custom armour is her pride and joy.

Close quarters power armour fight scenes are a staple of the story.

She falls in love with the crew's Chef who turns out to be some kind of Black Ops experiment/project I think has some kind of alien symbiote/organism that acts a bit like 'Venom' from Spider Man, a black oily like coating that can appear and disappear and seals the skin like a space suite making him (and those like him) faster, stronger and deadly.

As the books progress her and the chef are pursued by the Black Ops group that made him, testing their loyalties to each other and the crew they are flying with, forcing them to go on the run.

One or both are captured at times leading to daring rescues.

The Kutherian books have Queen Bitch - she does spend time talking about weapons and armor.. a lot more than 3 books though.
