I remember reading this when I was a kid, I feel like the cover was burgundy with a Christmas tree on it, styled like most kids chapter books in the 80s (babysitters club etc)
I remember the girl saw an ornament on the tree and reached up to grab it because it wasn't familiar and the branches grew thicker and she ended up stepping into the tree and then the ornament was still unreachable. She ended up in a mysterious forest. I think her little brother came in after her, and they were missing for a while. But that's about all I can remember.
