SOLVED. Dystopian. Book probably inspired by We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. [s]

I remember a book I read in high school. It was this dystopian world were everyone never used 'I' but 'We'. The people were given weird names that weren't really names but words as names. This one guy rediscovers the lightbulb, but when he showed it to others they locked him up, but not really, because no one expected disobedience so there were no locks or guards and all he did was simply walk out. He and this girl he had encountered a few times in the book left and found a library with books and discovered the word 'I'. They gave themselves new names and the guy said that what he had found was ego. There was more than that but that was the most I remember from the book.

Thank you. I had described the book to my dad after I posted this and he ended up finding it by just googling two words. "discovers ego". I was shaking my head cause I was going all complicated with searches try to be as specific as possible and using book searches and all it took was less than a minute search with two words. Recognized the title as soon as I saw it.
