Teen or preteen boy (Davey maybe) is in conflict with his father who drinks heavily. The father owns sheep and has a herding dog named Red Wull. Davey is well liked by a neighbor who also has sheep and knows about Davey's troubles at home. Davey has a close bond with the neighbor's collie named Bob. When sheep in the area are found dead, mauled by some animal, the local farmers suspect a rogue sheep dog. Davey's father claims it is Bob. Davey is deeply disturbed because rogue dogs are killed. SPOILER ALERT. The rogue turns out to be Red Wull. When the shepherds and their dogs gather in the local village, the other dogs attack and kill Red Wull.
