This one is for members to ask each other. If you want to do this please post below and I will draw members to pair.

To choose a book for your 'partner' you can:
1. look on their tbr shelf. If you want to do this prompt but you don't have a tbr list can you start a shelf called Lovely Ladies Books or something similar. Start putting on there books that you have come across whilst being in the group. Then maybe in the summer we can try this prompt.

2. You could look at the read shelf of the person you are paired with and based on what got 4-5 stars maybe suggest a title.

3. You could choose a book that you have read that you highly recommend.

Nidhi Kumari I would like to do this one Tracey.

Brenda (gd2brivard) | 1270 comments Count me in here as well - this sounds fun!
**I wonder if I need to go dust and organize my virtual bookshelf **😳

message 4: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari My bookshelf also has listing of new books, not classics. Classic for me are not choice they are mandatory. I can provide a selection of authors though.

Also they could look at your read shelf and based on what you liked there maybe suggest a title. And a book they have read that you haven't could be suggested.

message 6: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari That’s a great idea Tracey.I don’t have a shelf devoted to women writers. I will create one.

Sounds like a good project. I will put the ideas in the first message for other people to read.

message 8: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) | 1270 comments And as I had a thought to try and read books off my shelves for these projects, I think I’ll curate a shelf with that in mind for this challenge with writers in the guidelines. Thanks for the great ideas!

message 9: by Michaela (new)

Michaela I´m in, and yes, a shelf would be good! :) I think my usual tbr list hardly contains book of our "genre". ;)

message 10: by Elke (new)

Elke (elkeo) I think that Jess and I will choose for each other.
Sound good, Jess?

Depending on where your partner lives, we could even send them a copy of the book chosen for them as a little present!

message 11: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Lybbert | 36 comments Can I ask a friend who is not in the group for a recommendation? I do want to do this challenge. If it needs to be someone in the group I am totally fine with that too, just wanted to check. I will set up a Lovely Ladies Books shelf to make it easier for others to know what I am interested in.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 194 comments Will someone please recommend me a book by Colette besides Cheri which I have already read, many thanks.

One I've been meaning to read is Claudine at School. I haven't read anything by her yet, (perhaps I can use her for the new to me author). I think Iza has read her so she might be better placed to advise you, but I'd love to hear what you think if you do read this one.

message 14: by Jazzy (new)

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 194 comments Okay I'll choose that! Thank you Tania, and I have all my 21 books chosen. ☺️

You have a pretty fantastic list there Jazzy, Look forward to seeing what you think of them. I loved We Have Always Lived in the Castle and might use that one for mine too.

I chose it because I bought it for 99p recently! I guess I should put the star ratings after I finish them :)

Philina | 342 comments I read We Have Always Lived in the Castle early this year and it was great! Good choice!

I guess I would like to be paired up as well.

I look forward to your review. It is one that I have thought about before and a friend read a biography about Colette. She was a very complex person

Great Jazzy. I also look forward to seeing what you make of it. I've had it on my TBR for years.

Hi Philina, I'll partner up if you'd like. I need a suggestion for this part of the challenge. Let me know here or DM me, whichever.

Or if you're set no problem. It's been awhile since you posted that, I missed it earlier. Thanks!

message 24: by Jazzy (new)

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 194 comments I read some snippets and it looks pretty good!

Philina | 342 comments Hey Brenda, yes I‘d love that! More in PM?

message 28: by Jazzy (new)

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 194 comments I'll pick one for someone!

message 29: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) | 1270 comments Oh my...Jazzy, I completely forgot I asked you to recommend a Dorothy Parker. Which is absolutely fine. I'm going to read two for this challenge then...
something by Dorothy Parker, I'm not sure which. Maybe The Complete Stories Of Dorothy Parker.
and
North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell

Not knowing any Dorothy Parker, I'm looking forward to learning of her work, and just reading Cranford, I'm excited for more Gaskell as I really loved that one.

message 30: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) | 1270 comments Jazzy, I forgot there was a category for an author new to you, so I'm going to read Dorothy Parker for that challenge. I hope that's ok? Sorry about all that. I had the message saved in my emails so I'd remember, and of course I didn't.

message 31: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari Jazzy please select your most favourite Agatha Christie for me. I don’t read horrors and thrillers so it will be a good start.

message 32: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari I will pick for someone.

Katrina Lybbert | 36 comments Tracey wrote: "Hi Katrina. Did you get a suggestion? I would like a suggestion myself if you have one. Thanks."

I did get a suggestion from a friend outside of this group. She recommended I read Pride and Prejudice, and I actually haven't read that one yet, though I have seen the many versions of the movie. So I decided I would go with that one.

I could recommend to you, Tracey, the book A Girl of the Limberlost, if you haven't read it yet. I love that one and was written in 1909.

message 35: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari Tania, how will this work? Shall I visit your page to go through your preferences or you could post link here. Or you can suggest some preferred author.

If you go to my profile page and use the 'Compare Books' function, you should be able to see what I own but haven't read, marked as 'owned TBR'. If we don't have many in common, something Victorian perhaps, or in the public domain. Thanks.

Katrina, I hope you enjoy P&P. Let us know how you get on. 🙂

message 38: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari We have lots in common Tania. My first suggestion is The Benefactress by Arnim.

Second The Street by Ann Petry, a book I want to read this year.

Third is The Scarlett Pimpernel. It’s very good light reading.

Tania | 2694 comments Mod
Brilliant. I want to read all three. Thank you. I think I'll read The Benefactress for this one, but I do want to read The Street very soon.

message 40: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari Arnim is a very good writer I read her German Gardens. For 21 in 21 challenge I am reading The Caravaners suggested by you. The Street is a serious read, I plan to read it in April.

Let’s start with Murder On the Orient Express then shall we? I read that last month and it’s quite famous

message 42: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari Jazzy, I have read this in school days about some 20 years ago but can tell you the whole story , maybe I have not added in my read list. May be your second favourite?

message 43: by Philina (new)

Philina | 342 comments Thank you, Brenda, for choosing Possession as my challenge read :)

I hope you have fun with North and South. After reading that, do check out the BBC production which includes fluffy cotton snow and an actor Michaela can tell you much about ;)

This is a collection of most of her short stories up to 1939

My favourite collection is The Penguin Dorothy Parker

which has some of everything!

message 45: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) | 1270 comments Thanks Jazzy! I think I’m going to go with The Complete Stories Of Dorothy Parker it’s still pretty weighty, and I can easily get a copy of it.

I do hope you like it Philina, I look forward to what you think.

Yes!! I’ve wanted to watch North & South for some time but wanted to read the book first. I’m excited for both. 😁

It certainly was a memorable solution.

She is a favourite, and I think The Caravaners is one of her best.
