The Local Tavern
Yesss! The motivation I so desperately need recently. (I am spending too much time google/ messing around on my phone with my kindle being ignored beside me).
If you're looking for an interesting read (or listen in this case) for the Academy II - News & Interviews task, I can recommend:Goodreads Podcast: Elizabeth Talks with Author Neil Gaiman
It's a great interview, about 30 min long. The first half is about his friendship with Terry Pratchett, writing Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch together and the TV show. The second half is about Neil Gaiman's favorite books. Loved it.
Hope you are all good heading into November, whatever it brings you.
Would some of you be interested in signing up for the new quest here that I've set up this month? I could really do with some experienced players to help it run.
It's going to be the start of me revamping some of the old quests and hopefully getting a new quest out every month or so.

Am in the tavern having my second butter beer after a long day on the trail. My horse has been fed and rubbed down and I am eyeing the great smelling food from the kitchen. I can't decide if my feet hurt worse than my back. The King has sent me on a mission to determine if the recent rumors of a rich gold mine has been found in his kingdom. I have 3 more days to get to said mine. I am the kings knight and would defend him with my life.
The lovley tavern owner approaches me and I exclaim' A large bowl of that stew, Please."
I love it! I have to pass this time around, barely having time for things with my 7 week old son hehe. But hopefully sometime later I can volunteer for a later recruit.
Congratulations Rebecca! Enjoy your time with him and if we get more interested recruits I'll let you know.

We can certainly get you that stew, kind Sir, although Queen Skye is a little concerned about the presence of another ruler's knight in her kingdom. She hopes she might be able to sway your loyalty to her side as time goes on.

Hello fellow adventurers! I just wanted to say a quick hello as I start my buddy adventure with Sarah. So exciting!!
Am always open to meeting with my Queen as I am at her beck and call. I have admired the Queen from afar and would welcome any advice that she would kindly give her loyal subject.
Sir Alex! Glad to hear you switched alliegence. You won't regret it. Queen Skye is a mighty and benevolent ruler.
A secret smile spread across my face as I though of the meeting tomorrow. I ordered one more butter beer and down it quickly before I crawled into a very soft bed with riches of gold in my head.
Sir Alex I' ve just noticed you don't have an adventure log. Why don't you set up one? It would make tracking your adventuring progress so much easier. :)Sophie created buddy threads for the apprentice scheme quest. Go and say hi to your mentor to get some easy experience points. :)
Welcome everyone! I'm Queen Skye's chief counsellor so will be your first port of call while exploring the kingdom (queendom?). I'm sure all her subjects will help in any way they can as well so get yourselves comfortable and enjoy the food and drinks on offer.
Hello all heroes! I am Lady Jackie, new apprentice to Lady Zuzana. Through her fabulous weapon training and guidance I have just managed my first kill - a goblin! Off now to see if I can skewer a sewer rat.
It seems that under the Apprentice Scheme even the old and grizzeled knights like myself have to introduce themselves in the Tavern again. So hi to all the veterans and welcome to all the newbies. I've been adventuring in the Novel Kingdom from the very beginning of Queen Skye's reign, so if you have any questions I'm happy to help any way I can. I really like the Apprenticeship idea. Kudos to Sophie. Any help in defending our kingdom from monster infestation is highly appreciated afterall.
So, defenders of the realm, come and have a pint with me. The first round is on me.
Well, it has been a while since I introduced myself so this experienced adventurer is saying hi again. I'll be a mentor to Sally.I really like the apprenticeship idea. And I'm super excited to see what new quest ideas come from everyone.
Another (sort of) experienced adventurer waves hand and says hi to everyone, veterans and newbies. :)The apprenticeship idea is brilliant! Unfortunately I too have to pass on it at least for now as I have too much on my plate already, but it will be exciting to follow and see what everyone comes up with!
Hi all! I'm Lady SandyL, new to this adventure with the awesome guidance of Lady Halli. I'll enjoy a pint after I get started - I need a clear head at first! :-)
Hi! Experienced adventurer here, teaming up with SandyL! Thanks to Sophie for getting me back in this challenge... It's probably been about 4 months since I've even read a book, so I'm glad to get back into it!
Welcome everyone! Thanks for popping by to say hello, whether new or experienced here. I'm glad that the apprenticeship scheme is working well and everyone is settling into the kingdom. I'm hoping we'll be able to keep it going for new players so that no-one feels scared/overwhelmed by the scale of the set up so far.
Congratulations on your first kill Jackie! Thanks for making the kingdom a safer place.
Halli, glad we could help get you back to reading again - I can't imagine going a week without reading, let alone a month.

Hello all heroes! I am Duchess Sally and apprenticed to Natasha. I’ve been working through my apprenticeship tasks and have levelled up my Magic Staff, my sword and done my first kill! That nasty little goblin had sharp teeth - but he won’t be biting anyone else now! Think I’m going to go for a rat and a bat before I cast my eyes over bigger prey!
I am about to start my first quest - I think I might be getting a tiny glimmer of understanding how it all works.
Rebecca wrote: "I love it! I have to pass this time around, barely having time for things with my 7 week old son hehe. But hopefully sometime later I can volunteer for a later recruit."I don't know how I missed this. Congrats on your baby, Rebecca. :)
Just a quick question - not sure if this is the right place for itIf a task says “Read a book over 600 pages” it can’t be exactly 600 can it?
Is a daunting task as I rarely read books that are over 400 so looking for one that is 600 is making me weak at the knees. I have one book on my TBR that is high - and it has 600.
Sigh.
Sally, I would say it has to be over 600. But I'm not sure. As Tea - one of the original mods of this game - once whispered in the Tavern for everybody to hear as a response to a similar question. : Try switching editions.
LOL! I've found the original post here:

LOL - sounds like our Tea.
I already checked - they’re ALL 600 - sigh - still I have a few other tasks in the quest so maybe something will come up 😀🤞
Hello all Lady Louise here apprentice to Lady Catherine. Have been wandering around the kingdom leveling up my sword and Staff. Lucky I had as I came across a rat hiding in the sewers, and one nasty looking goblin. Going to kick back and relax a while before I go off questing.
Re-introducing myself, I'm Sir Sarah and have been adventuring for some years, and now have joined the Apprenticeship Scheme. Well, a week ago, but better late than never. When I began, there already was a Lady Sarah, which would have been my first choice. I wasn't imaginative enough to name myself Duchess - great idea, Sally! But Sir Sarah is too well-settled now and the pets might not take to a name change, lol.

I think SIR Sarah will make you stand out in a crowd 😂😂

My fault, I'm sorry. :) But I definitely agree, SIR Sarah is rad!
I'm stopping by for a pint and buying one for my mentor, Halli. I'm realizing that being a bit inebriated might help me understand everything better (although Halli's doing a great job showing me the ropes!)
Just a reminder to newbies tackling the Academy challenge (using the Timewalking Potion) : the BOM nominations are open now. :D

Hi everyone, just stopping by for some ginger ale and some delicious stew. As a newbie it's hard, but I slayed some monsters, being no fond of rats! Now my horse can get some rest and leaving the tavern after a good sleep.
I'd like to announce that Lady Jackie successfully finished her apprenticeship by attacking and defeating all of the Colored Dragons. I couldn't have asked for a better apprentice. :D

Dragons look scary well done Jackie
Lady Louise here on my travel through the kingdom I have discovered that Karen M. McManus has a new book coming out next month. Check out what she has to say Karen McManus Interview
Well done Jackie! Welcome to all our new heroes! I hope you are all settling in ok and beginning to find your way around.
Louise wrote: "Lady Louise here on my travel through the kingdom I have discovered that Karen M. McManus has a new book coming out next month. Check out what she has to say Karen McManus Interview"Thanks for the tip, Lady Louise! I've read 'One of us is lying' and that was so good!
Mods, thanks for a great new Christmas quest. It's lovely. :)Could you please post it on the Notice board so that nobody misses it? Thanks.
I’m pleased to announce that with Natasha’s help as my mentor I have finished my apprenticeship - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...Was a frantic few weeks - but now I flying solo as a newly fledged hero and already doing a few quests - yay me
