I'm going to go with a general thread and manual request.I think I'll do areas of Novel Kingdom where you can hunt and each area has a different set of monsters. I can slowly build up that backlog.
Each monster type will have a range of "levels" it can be. You can request a level of monster. Maybe I do it within +/- 1 of that level? Each type of monster will have specific drops so you can tailor your drop chances based on where you hunt.
I probably won't release specifics on monsters just to encourage people to explore and share information.
Alyssa wrote: "Will there be a map? :D"Please don't put ideas in her head!
But having Novel Kingdom map would be so cool. Don't know why, but now that you mentioned it I keep seeing Middle-Earth one. Maybe if we change names....
Haha I have the map of Narnia tattooed on my feet. A map would kinda be the best thing in my opinion xD
The Crumpled Hills border Novel Kingdom. Beyond them is the Dark Theme Forest where few dare to tread. If you head west from there the Flat Plot Sands stretch for miles and miles. But travelling east brings you to the Sequel Seaside.

I'm guessing west of Dark Theme Forest there is Standalone Mountain where dragons hide their book hoard?
❀Tea❀ wrote: "Kelly wrote: "Maybe Wyrms?"We also need some dark place from where all the monsters come :P"
In the Badlands you'll find The Karstland Caverns. They would be a place of dark interconnected caves, underground lakes and mysterios sinkholes lit by luminescent moss and other bio creatures. Capturing some might help boost magic spells and such.
Ooo. I like it Reva. I think I'll try for this one in October. That gives me a month to get it working and one set of creatures worked out.
When we "battle" the straw targets with a spell, does the orb give the health point like it does for a normal fight?
Cathy wrote: "When we "battle" the straw targets with a spell, does the orb give the health point like it does for a normal fight?"Sure. You can treat it like a normal battle.
Just watched parts of the 6:48 hrs of the Space Walk at the International Space Station. Very cool but excruciatingly slow. Amazing how intricate the jobs were. They used the Canadarm to move Jeff Williams to an awkward part of the station to mount an HD camera. I love the NASA Channel.

Have you read the Jumper series? The last two books have some space stuff that's pretty neat.
Kelly wrote: "Reva wrote: "Just watched parts of the 6:48 hrs of the Space Walk at the International Space Station. Very cool but excruciatingly slow. Amazing how intricate the jobs were. Any idea when we're going to get the update (I'm super excited!) - especially classifieds? Thanks Kelly you're the best!

I hope soon, a bit behind due to other commitments. I can get classifieds up for sure tonight, they're easy.
Reva wrote: Just the oldy goldies. Arthur C Clark, Ben Bova, Poul Anderson, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov. More recently, Stephen Baxter, Beth Revis.I haven't read all those authors, but I just finished Childhood's End and I was very impressed, it was fascinating. I want to read more of Clarke's work at some point, and also Poul Anderson. I read Starfarers earlier this year and it was pretty good. I'm enjoying listening to Connie Willis's To Say Nothing of the Dog on audio. I didn't realize it was part of a series at first, so I want to read Doomsday Book too. I'm going to start Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson soon.

All of the above are great reads. Clark's The Rama series is good. As are Isamov's Foundation Series & Robot Series, Heinlein's Mars series, Robinson's Red/Green/Blue Mars; Herbert's Dune Series; Poul Anderson's "Tao Zero"
If you can get a copy "The Golden Age of Science Fiction". The science in this is very predictive of future events. Not very accurate mathematics LOL
For;7 Read a book that mentions an Olympian god. (3 Gold)
Does it have to be the actual God? I have a book with the Character names Zeus.
Also this is the third time for Olympian gods. What about Norse gods or others? I've been hanging on to two books for forever.
I'm ok with the name being the same.

Are we going to get an update anytime soon? Do you need more help if it's too much work? You know it IS ok to delegate.
I mean idk where Kelly lives but down here in Florida we still don't have power post hurricane Hermione.. This is the first time I've had signal since Thursday.
Nah I live up in Wisconsin. It's mostly just balancing wobble and non goodreads responsibilities. The update will be out soon though. Probably Great White Dragon first followed shortly by the monthly update.
September Update is out! Hopefully it is worth the wait.
Also, beware! Eisdrake has arrived. Everyone to arms!

Yikes. quite the monster! Re: the Cheating Quests. I'm very confused. Could you please give a couple of examples of how this would work? Many thanks.
It says the nook squirrels are hard to find - does this require minor/moderate tracking w the puppy? If it does, can that be reworded to clarify please?
Must be fresh books. (Read after 9/1/16)Does this apply ONLY to Pipsqeak?
OR
Must ALL THE NEW QUESTS have books read after September 1st?
Nook squirrel - weekly or monthly??"Nook Squirrel - (Element Air) (Weekly) The nook squirrel is a hard to find squirrel. It hides in nooks and crannies all over Novel Kingdom. No one has managed to find more than one of these each month ."
At the top of the list of quests, it says:"Quests Starting 9/1/16
(books may be used from before 9/1/16 if they're not used for something else)"
So that's probably good news. :) We'll see what Kelly says though.

Alyssa wrote: "It says the nook squirrels are hard to find - does this require minor/moderate tracking w the puppy? If it does, can that be reworded to clarify please?"Nope, no special tracking for them. Just that they don't appear often.

Weekly :P I'll update the text.
Reva wrote: "Yikes. quite the monster! Re: the Cheating Quests. I'm very confused. Could you please give a couple of examples of how this would work? Many thanks."
So for example: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...
If you look at the pages on all of them they vary from 300 to mid 400's.
So for example:
If you read "Paperback, 325 pages"
You could "cheat" and use "Paperback, 432 pages" to fulfill the 301-400 page category.
Basically, it's when the book wouldn't work with the version you read but will work with a version you didn't read.
Does that help?
Maybe this will help. I just read
which is lacking a man on the cover, but I can use this version
for Task 2 because there is a man on the cover. Reva wrote: "Re: the Cheating Quests. I'm very confused. Could you please give a couple of examples of how this would work? Many thanks."

Only to Pipsqueak. Since some of those books are not normally allowed, I didn't want people searching through almost 2 years of read books :P
I believe this is how this works but I'm a bit confused about where Air fits in. Nook Squirrel - (Element Air) (Weekly) Reward: (Per Squirrel) 2 experience, 1 Nook Squirrel Carcass
The nook squirrel is a hard to find squirrel. It hides in nooks and crannies all over Novel Kingdom. No one has managed to find more than one of these each month. Except for Ivan the Magician who determined that casting Earth magik on one will cause it to freeze to the ground causing an additional Nook squirrel to come and join his companion to investigate.
10 attack 20 HP - (Per Squirrel) - The squirrels must be attacked separately unless using area of effect abilities. Only one squirrel will ever come to the aid of another (multiple uses of earth magik does not continue to summon them. The squirrels both attack independently during the monster attack around when both are alive.
Pet Plus Potion in effect
Twins in Effect
Hero Attacks Nook Squirrel #1
18 + 2 +2 Horse +4 Pup + 4 Cat + 3 Orb +1 Bauble = 34 - 20 = Nook Squirrel Dead
Earth Magic Cast 1 Bird Feather, 1 Dirt
Rug Thrown
Hero Attacks Nook Squirrel #2
18 + 2 +2 Horse +4 Pup + 4 Cat + 3 Orb +1 Bauble = 34 - 20 = Nook Squirrel Dead
Reward: 4 experience, 4 Nook Squirrel Carcasses
Earth magic would be the first attack so I think that first attack line is wrong, Would be the base attack plus the bonus for it being strong against air, plus the things we talked about before stacking with the spells :)
Great update Kelly! :)Questions re the Eisdrake:
Are there any modifiers to use the spells (i.e. x2)? Or just go off of the base attacks (10)?
For the Fire Magik, can that 20% be applied to any weapon (sword or staff) or only for spells? And should that be included before any modifiers (pet, potions) or after?
And sorry but I don't quite understand this part:You may also disengage from the dragon early with no penalty. Leaving the battle or being knocked out does not count as an end of battle for items that provide benefits for that, it does reset any growing benefits as the turn count will return to 1.
What are the "items that provide benefits for that"? And the reset of growing benefits means the bauble right? And if you disengage early (I guess if your HP is more than 0?) how long do you have to wait to battle again? 3 days or sooner?
Kelly wrote: "Earth magic would be the first attack so I think that first attack line is wrong, Would be the base attack plus the bonus for it being strong against air, plus the things we talked about before sta..."My understanding is that it's not required to attack the first squirrel with magic -- if brute strength will do.
Magic only gives added weight to the Earth attack over Air 2 X 10
If anything, casting the earth Magic should affect the SECOND ATTACK And if that's the case, the attack should read as follows:
Nook Squirrel - (Element Air) (Weekly) Reward: (Per Squirrel) 2 experience, 1 Nook Squirrel Carcass
10 attack 20 HP - (Per Squirrel) - The squirrels must be attacked separately unless using area of effect abilities. Only one squirrel will ever come to the aid of another (multiple uses of earth magik does not continue to summon them. Hero Attacks Nook Squirrel #2
10 x 2 = 20 - 20 = Nook Squirrel Dead

I forget, do the animals count in the attack on the second squirrel?

I agree that manual requests in a common thread would be better so only people who are interested would be participating. There are changing factors that affect your attack abilities (e.g. current health points, illness, potions available) so I would like to have a choice on levels.
