Event: The Great White Dragon

                                              The Great White Dragon

A small novel page dashes into the Queens throne room.

"I saw it, your Majesty! The Great White Dragon." He pants for a few moments as if sucking in a breath for the first time since his encounter.

"Slow down my boy, what did you see?" The Queen asks in a cautious tone.

"The Great White Dragon! It was exactly like the stories Pa used to tell before before bedtime." The boys eyes glaze over remembering the oft told story.

Up north in the snowy mountains, lived an old white dragon. The townspeople had named the dragon Eisdrake. 200 years ago, Eisdrake woke up and ravaged Novel Kingdom and several others nearby. Men were found huddled under blankets in the stables to stave off the chill. One poor woman was found frozen solid, a page of the book she was reading half turned, frozen forever.

The townspeople rallied and pulled together their strongest magiks to fight the dragon. Fireball magik to melt her ice. Earth magik to ground her wings. Air magik to make the winds fierce.

Eisdrake was driven back to the mountains, wounded and unable to return. The battle was so fierce that it drained the lands of magik. Slowly the knowledge of the magik was lost to time and Eisdrake become but a legend in the minds of men.

The Queen looks at the boy with concern showing in her eyes. She turns to her knight captain and quietly says, "send runners to verify." Queen Skye then turns to her audience and announces, "there's no need to panic, but we shall start gathering supplies so we are prepared if the worst should occur."

Part 1 Complete

Gather Supplies

Queen Skye asks all of the citizens of Novel Kingdom to gather supplies to prepare... just in case. Work with your fellow heroes to gather the supplies before it's too late!

She requests the following total supplies:
- 20 swords
- 20 shields
- 20 armors
- 20 rations
- 50 reinforcements

All Quests are repeatable until supplies have been gathered by the heroes. A hero may repeat a particular quest 4 days after completing it before. Report gathered supplies to your fellow heroes here.

Receive one additional experience the first time you gather a particular supplies item. (Bonus experience up to 5, one for each type).

Swords

The armor smith requires some metals to forge into swords. He takes his work seriously and requires not only the main metal for the bulk of the sword but a precious metal for the intricate details present in all his works of art.

Provide one structural metal and one precious metal to the armorer so he can make a sword.

To get a structural metal, do one of the following:
- Read a book with a cover that is at least 50% grey or silver
- Read a book with the words bronze, steel, or iron in the title or body text.
- Read a book with an author whose last name starts with B, S or I.

To get a precious metal, do one of the following:
-Read a book with a cover that is at least 50% gold
-Read a book with the words gold, silver or platinum in the title or body text.
-Read a book with an author whose last name starts with a G, S, or P.

Receive 1 Sword Supplies and 3 experience points.

Shields

The armorer is adept at making wooden shields that can stand up to the thrustiest of all sword thrusts. He boasts that the most swift of the arrows could not penetrate his shield. He continually rates as a 10 on the robin hood index.

Provide the armorer quality wood and bands to create his masterpieces.

To get quality wood, do one of the following:
-Read a book with a tree on the cover.
-Read a book whose title starts with T.
-Read a book that is only published in paper format.

To get a band, do one of the following:
-Read a book with the word leather or band in the text.
-Read a book where the title fits on one line on the cover.
-Read a book that starts with the letter B.

Receive 1 Shield Supplies and 1 Potion Token.

Even the hardiest of heroes requires substance. MMRE's (meals mostly ready to eat) are a staple of every knights pack. Cook some ration packs in your kitchen to get the knights what they need even if they don't want it.

Create Water Pouch
-Drain 1 book with the word water in the title or water on the cover.

Create Beef Jerky
-Dry 1 Drop Bear Meat. Season with 1 salt.

Restore the Magik

The small novel page named Erik and his best friend and fellow page Thomas are taking much needed break after hauling all the supplies the townspeople gathered to the staging area.

Erik climbs up on top of the largest box, spreading his hands wide to keep his balance as he walks along the edge. Thomas laughs as he watches him.

"Let's go visit the caves! They won't need us for awhile." Thomas shouts up to Erik.

Erik agrees and they slip away and head up the grassy hills. After a short trek they come to the plot hole caverns named after the late Mister Plotteus. The boys climb inside to search for hidden gems. Suddenly Thomas hears a rumble and a shout. "Erik!" he screams as he sees Erik fall out of sight as a huge area of the cavern gives way.

After the dust settles, Thomas peers into the hole and hears a distant "I'm ok" yell from Erik. Thomas slowly makes his way down the new embankment. Halfway down the slope, Thomas trips on a rock and slides down the hill in an avalanche of tiny stones.

Erik reaches out a hand to help Thomas to his feet and they peer around. A large ornate stone statue appears before them with a single white stone set in the center of a dragon's head. Erik slowly reaches out a hand and pokes the stone. The floor begins to rumble again and the boys yell out in fright. The dragon statue slides back into the wall exposing a small box with a book inside.

Thomas reaches out and takes the book and wipes away the dust on the cover. He gasps in surprise. Along the top of the book in large script lettering is the word Magik .

Erik turns to Thomas and excitedly says "we must get this to the Queen right away!"

The boys carefully climb up the slope then rush back to town and present the book to Queen Skye. Her adviser, Fred the Magician, rushes to take the book then caresses it gently in his arms. "Oh what a wonderful discovery," he says as if talking to the book himself. The Queen thanks the boys for their service and asks Fred to investigate what might be done with a book of such unique interest.

One Week Later
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Fred rushes into the Queens dining hall and excitedly starts talking. "It contains the spells needed to bring Magik back into the kingdom! All we need to do is execute each of the spells to release the elemental ethers back into the world." The Queen agrees this would be a good idea given the dragon situation and enlists the townpeople to help gather the supplies.

Part 2 Complete

General Rules
• These quests are only active during The Great White Dragon Event Part 2.
• Quests may still be done and monsters may still be killed after the necessary parts are gathered (but the special part will not be useful.)
• Duplication effects (whether by potion, item or mercenary) do not affect event items turned into Fred (e.g. essences, etc.)
• Quests may be repeated by a hero however:
      • If a hero has completed a particular quest once,
            they must wait one week to repeat that quest.
      • If a hero has completed a particular quest twice,
            they must wait two weeks to repeat the quest again.
      • Three times -> three weeks, and so forth.
• Increasing wait times do not affect monsters. They maintain their own consistent timing.

Restore Fire Ether

• Fire Elemental - The Fire Elemental is a small little flame. With so many years with Eisdrake in power, the flames have become small and weak, barely more than a flicker. Collecting their essence destroys the elemental but you hope that it is for a greater good.

Firehawk

The firehawk is a mythical creature that legend says was born when a Red-tailed hawk nested in the ash of a Phoenix. When the Phoenix was reborn, the fire was infused into the nest of hawks and they emerged firehawks. People have remarked that when they shed feathers it looks like shooting stars across the black starry night.

Fred has informed you that if you're quick then you can capture feathers that fall from the firehawk and preserve them in glass to keep their flame alive.

First you must find the fire hawk by reading a book with a bird on the cover or a type of bird in the title.
Then, when a feather has fallen, you must capture it in glass by reading a book with a glass object on the cover.

Receive 1 experience, 1 potion token and 1 Captured Flame once the feather is captured.

Nearby in the town of Paperville, the towns founder Mr. Papyrus is hard at work setting up his very own amusement park. There have been terrible troubles while setting up the system. An entire army of fire bugs have moved in and made all his systems very buggy. He's sent out the cry to neighboring towns for anyone who can help!

Help debug Mr. Papyrus's system by reading a book where someone is good at computers.

Receive 1 experience, 1 gold and 1 Fire Bug.

Between a Rock

Rocks are a fact of life. They stop you in the road and stub your toe. They are pelted at you by small whiny children when you refuse to part with your hard earned candy. Such is life.

Only the most special of rocks can be used for earth magik. They must have intense earthiness and almost unheard of stoniness to be a true form of earth. You have heard that special rats present in Novel Kingdom specialize in retrieving these most rockiness of rocks.

Find one special rat by reading a book where someone eats cheese.
Receive 1 Rat Tail, 1 experience and 1 Rock for clearing the road.

The Hard Place

The essence of earth can be found in special pockets of hardness scattered throughout the kingdom. Sometimes these are literal hardness like a piece of old stale bread, other times they are metaphorical hardness's like the difficulty in finding new fresh bread.

In these places of hardness, true earth magik gathers.

Read a book where someone does something hard and there is a rock/stone/building or other extremely hard thing on the cover.

Receive 1 Merely Kat pelt (to combat the hardness), 1 experience and 1 Hard Place.

• Water Elemental - The Water Elemental has grown strong in the rule of Eisdrake. Eisdrake has been in power so long that the Water Elementals have turned partially to ice and can throw spears of icy magik in the direction of those who think to drink their juicy goodness.

You crawl across the desert, pages and pages of barren descriptions of long winded authors. You need and injection of plot quick! You feel your life force slowly being sucked out of you. Looking at your darkened, sun burned skin you wince and think that you must be down to a maximum of 50% water left in your body.

Up ahead you spot an oasis! The Oasis of Life! You spring slowly and slugged to your feet and tromp over only to be stopped by a small short man.

"Answer me these questions three!" He shouts at you.

Answer his questions by reading a book where someone knows a piece of information no one expected them to know.

Receive 1 salt, 1 herbs, 1 experience and 1 Water of Life.

Animal, Mineral or Vegetable

A strange little woman dressed in a frumpy hat with a giant feather sticking out of it rushes up to you and exclaims "animal, vegetable or mineral?!?" You glance at her and she cackles widely and a small goblet with a clear liquid appears in her hand. "Drink!" she says as she thrusts the goblet into your hands.

You take a tentative sip and wince. It tastes really rocky.

Read a book with a mineral in its title or series.

Receive 1 Mercenary Token and 1 Goblets of Spring Water.

This elemental is the trickster of the bunch, the class clown as it were. You hate clowns. You're definitely going to enjoy taking out these little buggers.

Let's go Fly a Kite

There is a small contingent of small novel orphans. Their parents were lost in the Great Book Collapse of 1993. They normally spend their days doing small chores for locals in the kingdom. However, you think that they could be a great help in forming and gathering wind with kites.

Help the orphans make their kites by reading a book with something flying on the cover.

Receive 1 Minor Poison Potion, 1 experience and 1 Kite from helping the orphans.

Queen Skye has grown tired of her normal castle and has requested a castle in the sky to better feel the wind. She thinks that some balloons would work just fine for hoisting up a castle. It's a small castle, it shouldn't cause much issue.

Receive 2 experience and 1 Balloon.

You stretch out enjoying life and your book.. Wait! Your book! It was here just a second ago! Drat. It must be that darn neighbors dog, Barky. Who would name a dog Barky anyway.

You run after Barky. He stops and stares back at you. Slowly you inch forward, steak in hand. *bam* The swap is made. Everyone is happy.


Trade Barky a Drop Bear Steak or 2 books with a red cover or food on the cover to retrieve your book.

Receive 4 experience and 1 Comfort of Home for getting your book back.

Fred the Magician is gleeful at the spread of ingredients before him. He mixes one part life with 3 parts comfort. He pauses, eyeing the mixture.

BOOM! Everyone hits the floor! Fred peers warily over the counter. His hair is askew and slightly singed. "I think that might have been too comfortable," he murmurs.

Three Days Later

A weary Fred wanders into the throne room. Queen Skye looks up quickly and motions him forward. "What do you have for us Fred?"

Fred holds up the book. The word Magik glows on the cover pulsing faintly.

"I have unlocked the magik, your Majesty. Magik is once again alive in Novel Kingdom."

A huge collective gasp is heard from the others in attendance. "Can it be true?" one man cries out. A woman off to the side faints in a dead heap.

"Yes, yes, it's perfectly true," replies Fred. "Though, I must caution you, my Queen. We must train our knights in how to use the magik. For now it reigns free, untamed by any soul."

"See that it is done. I shall send my best heroes into your care. Train them well dear Fred."

Queen Skye stares into the sky as people file from the room. She whispers quietly to herself, "we don't have much time."

General Rules
• These quests start during The Great White Dragon Event Part 3 but are available after for heroes needing to learn magik.

Spells
Spells may be cast instead of a physical attack. Casting the spell will use up the casting materials.

Certain monsters are susceptible to certain types of spells. If no notation is given, the base attack of the spell takes affect. Otherwise, the modifier for any specific type of spell will be listed.

Typically:
- Water is strong against Fire
- Fire is strong against Earth
- Earth is strong against Air
- Air is strong against Water
- Life is strong against Death
- Death is strong against Life

Additional modifiers may exist for specific creatures.

Example: (not a real creature)
• Skeleton - An undead creature brought back to life by the great Necromancer.
10 Attack 30 HP - Modifiers: Life magik hits for double. Death magik is negated fully.

Firebolt

The most basic of all fire spells is the firebolt. Learned by entry level heroes for centuries, the firebolt is steeped in tradition and accidental arson. At its core, it involves lighting a ball on fire and hurling it at your target.

Fred the Magician sets up 3 targets. If you can successfully destroy the targets, he will announce that are you are trained in the art of the Firebolt.

Firebolt - Base Attack 10.
Casting Materials - 1 Phoenix Feather, 1 Ball of Wool

• Firebolt Target - The simplest of all enemies. The straw test target. (Population: 3)

Reward: 2 experience.

After destroying the 3 targets, using Firebolt, that have been set out by Fred, he will declare you are trained in Firebolt and you can use them in the field against more formidable targets.

Tremor

Tremor begins the line of earth based spells. It can disrupt air based creatures by disturbing the air around it. The core of this spell is the opposing forces between earth and air and their explosive nature.

Fred the Magician sets up 3 targets. If you can successfully destroy the targets, he will announce that are you are trained in the art of Tremor.

Tremor Tremor - Base Attack 10.
Casting Materials - 1 Bird Feather, 1 Clump of Dirt

• Target - The simplest of all enemies. The straw test target. (Population: 3)

After destroying the 3 targets, using Tremor, that have been set out by Fred, he will declare you are trained in Tremor and you can use them in the field against more formidable targets.

Whirlwind

Whirlwind starts the wind based spells. It swirls up water based enemies causing them to become destabilized. In essence, air magik is based on forces mixed with great velocities.

Fred the Magician sets up 3 targets. If you can successfully destroy the targets, he will announce that are you are trained in the art of Whirlwind.

Whirlwind - Base Attack 10.
Casting Materials - 1 Carrot, 1 Snap Pea

• Whirlwind Target - The simplest of all enemies. The straw test target. (Population: 3)

After destroying the 3 targets, using Whirlwind, that have been set out by Fred, he will declare you are trained in Whirlwind and you can use them in the field against more formidable targets.

Note: All heroes will be able to participate in the Great White Dragon battle. Being trained in one or more spells will assist in your ability to fight the dragon but not having spells will not be a barrier to participation.

The Dragon Sighted
Erik hops off the north tower and sprints back into town and into Queen Skye's chamber. Everyone in the room freezes and stares at the small boy.

"I saw it! The Great White Dragon is heading right towards us!"

The Queen immediately starts shouting orders to the room. She instructs the staff to start handing out supplies to the knights. Fred heads off to brief the knights on magik usage during the battle.

The Battle
This battle will require the efforts of everyone in Novel Kingdom. Unlike normal battles, the Great White Dragon can be battled in parts.

You may engage in battle at any point when your health is above 0. You may drop to 0 health during the battle however, as soon as that occurs you are knocked out and must remain out of any battles for the next 3 days. You may also disengage from the dragon early with no penalty. Leaving the battle or being knocked out does not count as an end of battle for items that provide benefits for that, it does reset any growing benefits as the turn count will return to 1.

Eisdrake - The Great White Dragon.

20 Attack 20,000 Health - Last health count remains for the next attacker.

Spell Effects
Earth Magik - Roots Eisdrake in place for one round to freeze an attack. May only be used once per day per hero.
Fire Magik - Increases the next hit (next turn) by 20% attack power.
Air Magik - Lowers the return attack of Eisdrake by half.

Note: Eisdrake is weak to Air, Fire and Earth Magik.

Reward: For every 10 health that you remove from Eisdrake receive 1 experience. (Partials are kept until the next attack and health is tracked per hero).

After Eisdrake is defeated, everyone who participates will receive a token of the event.

Reward
Queen Skye pronounces the Great White Dragon is dead!

Fred the Magician climbs up near the throne and mutters a series of quiet words while waving his hands in an elaborate pattern in the air.

Suddenly a small dragon familiar appears on the shoulder of every knight who participated in the preparations or the battle. Fred smiles broadly and explains.

The Great White Dragon exists as a cousin of the Phoenix. When he perishes, new dragons are formed to serve those who vanquished the prior dragon until their new master perishes.

Dragon Familiar Level 1 - Each monster killed who drops gold will drop one additional gold.
