Sweet, thanks so much! Congregation looks great. Yeah, it's not that I don't like a good erotica...but the emphasis is on "good"!! So many people writing under what I assume to be a pseudonym 'sexy' name...doesn't say much for the writing quality. :/

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3799 comments I just read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho for a gold cover. It's really short and good and the audiobook narration is great.

I need to know what the werewolf search and rescue book is. Not because I can make a determination, but because I need to read it.

message 5710: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Lane I've found plenty of books with dogs searching for a hunt/runaway/etc but I can't find one for a rescue. So yes if anyone has suggestions for this I'd appreciate it too!

lol! It's a small part of the book (though I am a SUCKER for anything werewolf related), I'm actually enjoying it a lot overall.

Revenge and the Wild

What this book has:
-- All sorts of creatures: werewolves, vampires, leprechauns, etc.
-- A pet chupacabra that is basically what tumblr would term a "cinnamon roll." (so at the least it would work for "unusual pet".)
-- Cannibals.
-- Alternate history America + magic + dash of steampunkishness.
-- Western
-- A MC who isn't falling all over herself for romance and isn't perfection.
-- A MC missing most of one arm (+mechanical arm) another character missing his ability to speak without a specialized mask -- both thanks to cannibals. Sign language, etc.
-- Father of both is super smart inventor (and PoC)
-- Psychopath of a small child with ringlets.
-- Native American characters who are pretty awesome.

Plus a bunch more, so basically an everything I never knew I needed to all be IN ONE BOOK being in one book. ;)

I have been sort of unable to stick with a book lately, but I haven't put this one down for anything short of audio (meaning I'm at work and can't read this) since I picked it up!

Yeah this took awhile and I just stumbled upon it while reading (apart from cover stuff like the food or picking something from my tbr, I don't tend to plan things I read. Just slot after the fact wherever it fits. This one is fitting a lot of places just because of how eclectic this whole thing is. I'm sure it would have a ton of scrounger words too.

message 5713: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Lane Well thank you for that comprehensive list! I'm adding it to my TBR shelf for future use for one of those many things haha,

Bitten/Stolen are both werewolf books that involve search and rescue too, but by a werewolf so it's in that grey area. And there are dogs, hunting THEM escaping, but the dogs aren't rescuing.. lol it's so close!

I'm ok with that for gold. Unless otherwise specified we try to hit 50% for cover color.

Shanna_redwind | 598 comments Did you know that Goodreads has a random book Generator? The one I got today was Evolving Constitutions of International Organizations, a Critical Analysis.

I bet a quest involving this generator would be fun. Obviously you couldn't require someone to read the book generated, but maybe to take one of the words in the title or the authors first or last name and find a book with those things. It could be something about things spontaneously generating that need to be cleaned up.

**Edited to add, maybe a link to the generator would be nice. Goodreads Random Book Generator

I'm half tempted to go track that down.

That's an interesting challenge idea Shanna! I bet it would be fun. :)

message 5721: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments Yeah, we would definitely have to make it something like, author's first or last name, or at least one word in the title. For mine I got
The 24 Hour Business by Richard M. Coleman
I really don't think I'd ever want to read that book, or could track it down, but reading a book by a Richard, or with the word hour, or business, that I could do.
Wonderful idea, in my opinion. :)

It should take you to a shelf of popular exciting books. I think there are a couple of shelves with the word exciting in them, but I just went to the first one. Anything on that list can be used. That's how I did it, and it seemed to work out.

Those "genre" lists are all the books that are shelved at least once (or negative once in one case) for that word. So any book on the list is fine.

If you want a search and rescue dog book there's The Search or Rescue My Heart. (Read those so I can vouch for them.)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3799 comments Ok professional questers....I have a question to throw out there for some advice.

I need to up my experience level so I can increase my max HP. I know some people have calculated each quest for amount of books / exp points to determine which are the most fruitful.

I see that New Gang in Town will give me 16 EXP for reading 9 books which is pretty good. I'm also working on the Leprechaun quests because those give some nice exp.

What are the quests that get you the most exp for your books?

Thanks! :)

message 5736: by Alex (new)

Alex | 1018 comments The relay race is pretty lucrative if you can find books with super long titles. I read 7 books for the first 10 exp and plan on using the duplication potion to make it even better value for the second part.

message 5737: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Galloway | 878 comments Questanomics pays 8 experience for only 3 books.

message 5740: by Karsyn (last edited Apr 01, 2016 10:11AM) (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) I've been looking for the same things, Rebecca. In addition to the ones mentioned already, here's what I've found ~

Do the expired "Academy" with a time walking potion. The 5 of the tasks, don't require any reading at all. So welcome people, write a thing for the tavern, and so on. That was 7 exp for 6 tasks one of which was a book (participating in a BOM).

Robbing Robin Hood is 1 book for 5 exp. You need 4 bat wings though.

Schoolmarm is 3 books for 5 exp

A nap is a good idea is 10 exp but requires a bunch of wings, bones and tails.

message 5741: by Morgan (last edited Apr 01, 2016 10:21AM) (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 522 comments Best one I'm working on now for xp is "A fly, a kitten and a cow walk into a bar...."
But probably not in a books/xp ratio sort of way. Just a way to rack up as many points as you want depending on how long your word is (+1 per letter) +2 extra for a word over 5 letters. (And a heal potion as a bonus.)

There are a couple like that where you can control how much you get.

I'm one away from spelling MAYONNAISE. haha. +12 xp once I get that final book read for the 'O'.

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments I really like the kitchen. Anything that generates regular potions is tops in my books.

As your Hero's levels increase, the gap between levels gets larger and ANY opportunity to generate experience points becomes important. If you control the number of exp points generated-- even better. If any flowers get you 5 exp points, but all ROSES get you more, go for roses.

In a Toy for Hadley, I used Triangle instead of star. -- more points.

Although I haven't turned it in yet, I've generated 2 Greater Heal Potions & 30 experience points in the Essential Oils Quest with Lavender Oil and Sandalwood Oil (I included oil in the spell-it-out). I may, if I have nothing better to do, look for another essential oil with more letters than Lavender to get even more exp points.

Zuzana | 2570 comments Big congrats Reva on beating the Rare Binding. :)

I have a nitpick though ;) (In my solely theoretical battle plan:) For each round I figure out the Binding's attack power including the modifier and then I deduct the point for Rocky. I know that the way you did it (the other way round) is actually harder (takes less of Binding's attack points) but I don't see anywhere in the rules why I should do that in that order.

I did the same thing with Triangle and all roses. haha. Didn't add Oil in every time for that quest, but went for number of books as well as a variety of letters to look for just to keep my interest. If I need to read 15 N books my brain is like NOPE. haha. So I have to balance my large words/variety a little.

The relay race was a pretty good one too.

I know there have been more that were similar-ish. For a long time I was doing XP and stockpiling potions and getting items over anything that was gold/house/weapon, so I know I'm probably just totally forgetting others. haha.

Relay race is pretty good. Especially if you don't mind non-fiction books. Lots of them have really long titles. :)

Collect them all. Pick a book with lots of bugs in it and you're set. I got all 100 bugs in one book. 1 book = 10 XP

Tavern Games if you go for words in the titles (5 books get you 9 XP).

The Blackest Eye is a great quests. Brings you 5 XP and potion tokens for 2 books (and 5 drop bear meats)
