Rylie | 298 comments Carson, Catherine's right. After much deliberation with Reva's info, I figured out that it has to do with each one of the tasks on the list. For example: house9 is dealing with covers that are mainly (70%) one color. Fetch, obedience, attack, those all have to do with puppies, I'm pretty sure.
Because I'm newish, I'm still working on the basics, my horse, my house, getting my staff leveled, my bunny, maybe my puppy once I get a couple of other things done, so there's not a lot that I have to keep track of yet.
It really all depends on what part of the game you're wanting to move along.
As Catherine said, Reva also sells some of her books, so having them in as many categories as possible ups the desirability, I'm sure.
Though, you said you're a really heavy reader, so you could be selling things in the open market soon enough. :)

message 5402: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 522 comments Yeah, I think that mostly comes in handy where she sells books, or I guess if you leave books in your tote for a long time so you can remember some key details.

I'll usually jot down main characters, location, etc and post the cover link as well as the book link so I can quickly spot things that might be needed for quests. But I rarely have anything I can't find a slot for somewhere!

(Plus I could probably have another 100 books read in the time it would take me to note down all the possible fits for every single book I read in a year.)

All just a matter of how you want to allocate your time/energy, and it works for Reva since she sells so much of her excess. (I hoard them like an angry dragon, because MINE. lol)

I organize my thread a lot differently than I've seen, but it makes sense to me to have like with like and then organize chronologically, having master posts at the top for tracking all relevant stats/items/pets/etc.

Whatever works for you organizing your thread, works. If I tried to do it like some of the others I would have gotten frustrated that it was "cluttered" (to my eyes, but to them it's extremely organized) and dropped the game.

That's what I like about this...it's really up to you how to play, organize, and attack the quests and monsters. I personally waited until I had leveled my hero, staff, and gotten some pets and things stocked up before I started attacking things. At the start it was more important to me to have a higher level hero and weapon than how many x,y,z I killed. (Yes, even with them giving xp.) I read a lot, so I could get more xp faster by doing the quests/reading.

I hope everyone just has a lot of fun with it, because I definitely do/have. I have only been pulling from my TBR for this too which has added another level of fun in when will I find x,y,z. :D

message 5403: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Lane Haha Morgan, I hoard like that too! I'm so hesitant to decide where to put things when they can go in many different slots and I have to decide what item/quest/XP I want more.. it's hard!

message 5404: by Daphne (new)

Daphne (daphnesm) | 937 comments It took me a few months to figure out how I really wanted to set my challenge posts up in a way that made sense to me and kept it very simple to use. I probably went through a dozen different ways before I settled on this one. I think everyone ends up finding their perfect groove after not too long.

message 5405: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (faeriesfolly) | 522 comments Alyssa when they were first like YOU CAN SELL BOOKS FOR GOLD! I was just automatically like curled around books in a corner and hissing. LOL!

I don't even like to use books for the classifieds. I think the only thing beyond mercenaries I could get with gold is the squirrel and I haven't wanted him until Daphne's pet quests. haha. I don't do the bigger battles yet (quests and maxing things out appeal more at the moment), so now at least I know what to do with part of my mini gold pile. That dog just keeps picking it up! I have to watch to make sure he's careful. Makes me a little nervous him fetching things that are so small.

message 5406: by Karsyn (new)

Karsyn (imzadi) Thanks y'all! Keep the advice coming. Thanks for explaining the numbers, that makes sense. I can't even imagine remembering everything I'd need to watch out for for quests. LOL! It's good to know though because while I don't read on Reva's scale (wow!) I do read a lot I think (over 300 books a year) so there may come a time that I'd sell books, likely not for a while though, since I wanna work on my own things, for now.

Just still trying to figure out the best things to do first. Not reading as much as normal right now, just with doing all the stuffs for Leprechaun. Hopefully the read-a-thon will get me back on track.

I love seeing how everyone is keeping track, and the pics are fantastic!! Taking my pics the last two days were so fun. :) I've got a rough way of keeping track going so far, but I'm definitely open to changing it as I learn more.

LOL Catherine about my rock attacks. :) Thanks for that. I did mess them up at first, I actually missed 1 Exp point, so I had to re-do it all, so wanted to make sure I got the stuff right. :) Thanks for checking.

Karsyn (imzadi) Daphne wrote: "What game did those pics come from Karsyn? they are awesome. :)"

Thanks Daphne, it's Skyrim and my character on there. I play on the PC and use a lot of character/clothing/house mods so I had a lot of fun going to my different places to take photos. I still wanna do some more and I have a neat one with all my gold, for when I actually earn some in NRPG. :)

Wow Morgan, that's a lot of books, awesome!! Tis ok you wanna keep 'em to yourself. You never know when you might need 'em. You worked hard for them (well, not that reading is hard, but you spent the time) so you should do what you want with 'em. :D

Awesome! That's great you are able to do that. I stay at home, so I can read 24/7 if I wanna. I just usually also play video games, do stuff here at GoodReads, watch stuff with the Hubby and watch sports..... so I could read more if I didn't spend so much time doing other things. :)

Reva (revans) | 2481 comments I started keeping track of things in the books that I read because I noticed early on that some things repeated -- either for Midas quests, other quests or the classifieds.

Such as:

TREE ON COVER found in:
BED1/ALCHEMY1.3/INTTRACK1:

RED COVER found in:
HORSE7/HOUSE9/KITCHEN2/RUG7/ COMBAT4/INTCOMBAT8:

Someone getting an education found in:
HOUSE2/INTCOMBAT7/FETCH3/

GOLD COVER found in:
HORSE1/HOUSE9/RUG2/RUG7 :

The codes are simply assigned to each of the tasks needed in a quest. I've printed a summary on my first page of the open market message 6

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Some books met multiple quests so it was hard to decided where to allocate it. For example in the Leprechaun RPG the book I originally slated for P (for peace), ended up going second to a short person then finally one who was poor when I found other books to replace it for P and short respectively.

I read over 700 books last year -- so I had a few to spare for the market. ;-)

Oh I hadn't seen that list yet, wow that's extensive! Awesome that you read so much and sold so much.

Yeah, I think allocating will be a slight issue for me. I like moving things around and changing my mind on stuff. It always seems to happen that when I find something to go in one spot, I find something a few days later that's better for it. Never fails. I like the Wheel-a-Thons for the reasons of moving crap around all the time. LOL! I just have to stick with something but I think I'm going to only put stuff in after I have everything, that way I'm not moving things all the time just to move them more.

All this is so much fun. :D

I so wish I could read more. One every couple days is all I can get through with school and work and kiddos...

Thank you for all the information! I've been lurking and learning. I can see how this RPG gets very confusing but I'm determined to get some done! All I've been working on is my weapons... what should I start first??? I was thinking of doing the bunny quest.

I listen to audio books while driving in the car and only sleep about 4-5 hours a night so I read when I can't sleep.

If you level your weapon high enough, you can one stroke, for example, rats, goblins and bats without incurring any Health Point (HP) losses therefore the bunny (15 books) may be premature.

The Baroque Horse gains you +1 on your attack for 12 books

Beginner Combat Puppy gains you +1 on your attack

you'll need:

9 books for puppy
5 books for obedience training
11 books for Beginner combat

Intermediate Combat Puppy gains you +2 on your attack for another 10 books

Intermediate Combat Puppy combined with the Pet plus Potion adds +4 attack to your weapon EACH ROUND. In the long term, that's pretty powerful if you're going after the big monsters.

There are also some kindle unlimited w/narration and I've gotten a bunch cheap at audible when they have sales. Though I cancelled my membership I still have like twenty to read. Plus a few were freebies.

Corinne | 86 comments I've been meaning to read the Stephanie Plum series! I've heard good things about Janet Evanovich. Plus, I love a good mystery book - that's all my Dad reads, so growing up, I'd always read excerpts of the books he left around.

Depends on what you like. I'd say the In Death series by J.D. Robb would be a good choice since you like mystery. Virgin River series by Robyn Carr if you like romance. I read probably 90% series, so any kind of recommendation you'd want, I can probably come up with something. What do you like most?

message 5442: by Corinne (new)

Corinne | 86 comments I like fantasy, but honestly sometimes find it hard to 'listen' to. I love Lord of the Rings, but could not STAND the audio versions. I also have a hard time listening if they have a thick foreign accent (like a narrator of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo). I tend to like to listen to humor books actually but am open to trying other genres too. :)

Been working on my staff lately. lol.

The Stephanie Plum series are great on audio! I have only listened to the last 3 or 4, but I want to go back and re-listen/re-read because they were that good.
They are also pretty quick listens. Mystery/romance/humor. 20+ books.

I just finished reading the A Series of Unfortunate Events books. They were pretty entertaining and appeal to the childrens/youth/ya focused librarian/bookseller in me. lol. He has an amazing grasp of language and it's fun to watch the linguistic acrobatics -- appealing to the english major in me.
Mystery/quirky/middle grade/humor. 13 of those. Tim Curry narrates. A+

Dresden Files is over 10 books. SciFi/Fantasy, Mystery, Humor. Narrated by Spike from Buffy. lol. ;) (What? That can be a selling point!)

Umm...trying to think of longer series ones I've listened to recently. lol.

I can't do really heavy fantasy either on audio. I just want to fall asleep--which is easy enough when you're up at night for work. It has to be entertaining/gripping and doesn't hurt to make me laugh since things can get stressful (like today) and I need a laugh.

BTW -- I Don't Know What You Know Me From: Confessions of a Co-Star was really entertaining read, quick, and interested me since I have seen her in a ton of things I like. Just as a random rec if it interests anyone. lol.

I don't read a whole lot of fantasy, but I'll see what I can find on my lists of stuffs. I can definitely recommend all kinds of other genres though, if you want to try other things. I don't do well with accents either, so most of what I listen to (and enjoy) don't have heavy accents.

Here's a few (well, few to me) recommendations. Let me know if you'd like more. :)

Series over 10 books:
In Death by JD Robb ~ over 45 books (Mystery / Crime)
Virgin River by Robyn Carr ~ 18 books (Romance)
Troubleshooters by Suzanne Brockmann ~ 16 books (Romantic Suspense)
T-FLAC by Cherry Adair ~ 15+ books (Romantic Suspense / paranormal abilities)
Chase & Wilde series by Andy McDermott ~ 11 books (action/adventure)
Eve Duncan series by Iris Johansen ~ 20ish books, many spinoffs (mystery/suspense)
Bishop series by Kay Hooper ~ 15ish books (Suspense, paranormal abilities)
FBI series by Catherine Coulter ~ 16+ books (suspense, paranormal abilities)

Not 10 books, but still good series and will help out early staff upgrades:
I-Funny series by Patterson & Grabenstein ~ 4? books (MG Humor)
Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka ~ 6 books (Urban Fantasy and 1 of my favorite narrators)
Protecting series by Susan Stoker ~ 8 books (Romantic Suspense)
Chess Team by Jeremy Robinson ~ 7 books, variety of novellas (action/adventure)

Variety of books but all shorter books so quick on audio:
Theodore Boone Kid Laywer by John Grisham ~ 5 books (YA mystery)
Nancy Drew (50+) & Trixie Belden (39) (YA/MG and audios around 2-3 hours)
39 Clue series & Infinity Ring series (YA/MG short audios)
Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket ~ 13 books (YA/MG) Quick audios and most done by Tim Curry
