I'm ok with food being drinks. Something that normal people find edible :) Or at least people in your culture find edible.

Alyssa Lane I have a question about Big Heart-

Could someone give me a list of all "Hallmark Holidays" that would be acceptable to attack on? I know I missed Valentine's day this year. :/
And also, it says my weaker weapon will get the +2.. Well, my Staff is currently a level weaker than my sword, but my Staff has a bauble on it- that's still okay yes, just a convenient loophole? :)

Thanks!

ah, that's misleading. It's available all the time :)

well, until you kill all three :(

dunno about the bauble impact

message 5164: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Lane Oh, I thought I had to wait for like, St. Patrick's day or something.?

Well awesome then, but yes I still want to make sure the Bauble is ok, because the level is lower, but the attack is higher.

All attack power attributed to a weapon would count towards it's strength. So it would include any potions or baubles.

You could resolve the Bauble problem by getting another one for the sword. ;-)

So, it's the weapons final ATK Strength that matters, not just it's level?
Sounds good I can work with that, I just needed to check.

I'll probably get another bauble for the sword eventually, but for now I need a bed and a puppy, one bauble will have to do at the moment.

It means you can (once in the battle) hit multiple enemies.

So far this is the Big Bads - the Swarm and the Alice-in-Wonderland Queens - you'll need it at some point, but it's probably not a priority quest.

message 5174: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments I want to make sure I'm going about this the right way when subduing the mighty rock. So the first rock is:
1 attack 5 health.
The second is 3 attack, 10 health,
and the third is 5 attack, 15 health,
and so on?
Also, is the 3 gold and 10 experience for each rock subdued? Like, will I get 10 exp for subduing the first bit of pebble in one round? Or is it 10 exp for subduing the whole thing?
I just want to get all of this straight so I don't start chipping away at the rock in the wrong way.

message 5175: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa Lane Yes, that's right with the ATK/HPs.
And yes, you get Gold and XP for EACH Rock, then your own Rock after you kill 5, and upgrade him after you kill the last 5.

That rock is a crazy good quest to go after. :)
It's cool, I was just looking at your quest log, and you and I have an extremely similar strategy for the beginning part of it. You're a lot further than I am, but at the beginning, you focus on the same quests and the same kind of battle plan and what not. :) thanks for the help.

Rock - Many people might mock you for attempting to subdue the mighty rock. It's lasted for millions of years, who are you to try to best this foul beast. But you are not cowed by this formidable task. You will persevere!

#1. 1
(+2 per Rock already killed) Attack 5 (+5 per Rock already killed) Health
#2 1 + 2 = 3. 10
#3 1 + 4 = 5. 15
#4 1 + 6 = 7. 20
#5 1 + 8 = 9. 25
#6 1 + 10 = 11 30
#7 1 + 12 = 13 . 35
#8 1 + 14 = 15 . 40
#9 1 + 16 = 17 . 45
#10 1 + 18 = 19. 50

(Population: 10)
Reward: 10 Experience, 3 Gold, 1 Pebble FOR EACH BATTLE

SEE Attacks 236-246 page 4 of my thread if you wish.

Rylie | 298 comments I know what you mean. There are so many quests and things to get. That's why I'm telling myself just the horse and the house for now, that's all.
But then I saw that I could get a couple of XP and a healing potion for reading one more 100 page book, and I was all over that. :)
And I like having gold, so the Mitus quests and classifieds always catch my attention.
I have a hard time doing some of the cover requirements (find something metallic on the cover, find something gear driven on the cover, etc,) because of my visual impairment, so I want to have gold on hand in case I need to buy a book from someone to fulfill one of those reqs.
But the puppy, that's next on my list. After the horse and house, of course, lol.
It's pretty easy for me to level up my staff because I read a lot of books in series, but the sword is going to start gathering rust if I don't keep it sharp.

Did you all read the Search for Senna Everworld series? It's by Katherine Applegate from the Animorphs series.
I actually liked it more in some ways. I've always been a sucker for the mythology bits.

They are pretty quick reads from what I remember (right around 200 pages) AND go up to #12. I've actually been thinking about seeing if my library has them to re-read since I'm working on getting my staff higher. (Easier than driving 6.5 hours to my parents and digging them out of the attic where most of my books from high school/college are.) haha.

A big welcome Allecyn! *slides a beer down the bar*

Did you read the Welcome and rules section of The Group Topic
Folder?

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

There's a HOW TO GET THE MOST out of this game which should focus your efforts.

Feel free to ask any and all questions as you go along. It's really not complicated once you get started.

You may want to start by making a thread for yourself. Click on 'new topic' (upper right corner) and name your thread. (Allecyn's Quest or whatever you like).

Then make a list of all the books you have read since January 1/2016.

Feel free to check out other player's threads -- there's no right or wrong way to do the game -- just have fun!!

Reva made an excellent post (see above) about getting the most out of the game.

Basically you have the opportunity to build weapons, slay monsters, earn gold, and basically do WHATEVER you want. You can pick and choose any quests you want depending on your goals. It's super addicting and very very fun.

message 5198: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 298 comments Welcome Allecyn! First of all, I love the way your name is spelled. Just thought I’d tell you that. :)

Yep, the welcome and rules thread goes in to a lot of ways to figure out what to focus on first.
You start with 10 health, a sword, and a staff. That’s it.
You level up your sword by reading books that count up by 100 as you gain levels. It looks like this.
Level 1: read 1 100 page book.
Level 2: read 1 100 page book and 1 200 page book.
Level 3: read 1 100 page book, 1 200 page book, and 1 300 page book.
And so on.
Your magic staff levels up like this:
Read 1 book that is the first in a series.
Level 2: read 1 book that is the first in a series, and one book that is the second in a series.
And so on.
They do not have to be from the same series. That confused me at first, so I think it’s good to pass on.
Your weapons start with 2 attack. Each time you read a set of books appropriate to the level, the attack goes up by 1. So a level 4 staff would have 6 attack.
Quests are like tons of mini challenges. They can be anywhere from 3 or 4 books to 15 or so. Each one nets you a reward. For example, a horse, that gives you +1 to attack, or 2 experience and a healing potion, etc.
All of the quests are in the quests thread, and they’re conveniently divided up in to categories.
There are common monsters, uncommon monsters, timed monsters, and rare monsters. A lot of them are going to be pretty hard to kill right at the beginning, until you level up your weapons and go on a couple of quests to get rewards to help with monster slaying.
You can focus on one aspect of the game or the other (monster slaying or questing,) or a bit of both.
I don’t want to seem like I’m repeating myself with the “How to get the most out of this game” post in the welcome rules thread already doing such a fine job, but those are a few really basic pointers, from a fellow newbie.
It really is one of the most fun challenges on GR, in my opinion. I love how involved and talkative and helpful all of the players are. And, killing a monster that you just couldn’t have killed before leveling up, or getting a reward from a quest to help you better yourself in the game, is an actual accomplishment.
Phew, this is long, but I thought a beginner helping a beginner with beginning things might make it easier. Any and all questions welcome and encouraged. I still ask them. In fact, I just asked one today, and a couple of days ago.

Romance of most kinds (especially historical and paranormal,) just about anything supernatural, romance or not, timetravel, mythology, I love faeries and anything involving a fae world, werewolves, and witches. I'm getting in to the crime genre, so any really good recommendations to get me started there, like a series that will keep me wanting to read in the genre. Most YA, which is really its own genre, but most of the genres that fall in the YA category, but again, I love the supernatural, which YA has plenty of that.

You might consider the Outlander Series (8 books) for romance, adventure and time travel. Also the side books featuring John Gray.
Problem is they are BIG READS.

Evanovich's Stephanie Plum Series (One for the money) is very funny.

Sophie Kisella's Shopaholic Series is also enjoyable and funny.

Peter Mayle wrote a series set in France. A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle A Year in Provence, Toujours Provence by Peter Mayle Toujours Provence etc

James Patterson for Crime:

Alex Cross Series

NYPD Red Series
...Plus 5 other series

Laurel K. Hamilton for Anita Blake Series and Merry Gentry Series for paranormal and fairies.

That should get you started.
