Nice! I want to read both but I have no preference which one I start. So let's buddy read Sputnik Sweetheart? :)

Alright, I'm looking forward to it! We'll start Sputnik Sweetheart on 15th January.

Sorobai | 365 comments holy cow I just realized I don't have After Dark! I have most books by him. As for Sputnik Sweetheart it is a hell of a book my first Murakami and on some regards one of the best so far.

My first Murakami book was Kafka on the Shore ^^, If you ever buy After Dark don't forget you have a possible buddy read here.

Then I will create the topic on the 15th of January :D

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I'm sure I don't have Sputnik Sweetheart, but I might have After Dark at home. I need to check, but if that is the case, I might join you whevener you decide to read it.

Great! :D So, I can read it right after Sputnik Sweetheart :)

message 161: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I will probably join in on After Dark as well. I'd like to read Sputnik Sweetheart but don't own it and probably shouldn't buy any more books until I read some of my Christmas present books. O_o

Excelent! Probably Yash wants to join in as well. We didn't decide how long it would take the buddy read of Sputnik Sweetheart but it's only 229 pages. It won't take long.

message 163: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I'll need you to warn me a few days before the read so that I can plan accordingly. (I don't like reading several books at the same time).

Maybe just go with Sputnik Sweetheart first, and when you are done, we'll decide of a date for After Dark.

From experience, it's quite hard to define the end of a buddy read. Everyone reads at different paces, and sometimes you will want to have time to discuss the book.

Great :) I'm glad to have you on both buddy reads!

This is only my second buddy read so I don't have much experience. You are right, it's better to decide the date after we are done.

Kandice I like doing unstructured Buddy Reads, where everyone starts at approximately the same time, but pace is left to the individual reader. When I am given a schedule I seem to fail miserably. The opposite holds true in life, I am a chronic list maker, but reading...I want it to just happen.

I can relate to you a lot! I guess it's because it's a hobby so I have to enjoy it rather then fulfill it.

Hey, folks!

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to do a buddy read of
Lock In A Novel of the Near Future by John Scalzi Lock In, by John Scalzi.

If not, The Man from Primrose Lane A Novel by James Renner The Man from Primrose Lane by James Renner
The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North

Or City of Endless Night by Milo Hastings City of Endless Night by Milo Hastings ?

Let me know if any of these or any books on my netgalley / scanned shelves strikes your fancy.

I am open to any dates.

Thanks!

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Lock In has been tempting me for a while now, but I must not buy more books unless my piles decrease a fair bit! So alas, I think I'll pass this time.

Hey, I've been travelling, so just saw all this. I think I'll decide whether or not to join in on the After Dark buddy read a bit later, after we're done with Sputnik Sweetheart. I generally don't read two books by the same author one after the other though, so I'll leave this till later.

message 174: by Sorobai (new)

Sorobai | 365 comments Oh boy I definitly don't have After Dark but I just ordered The Strange Library and I can't wait to put my eyes on it! As for Sputik Sweetheart I've read it long ago being my first Murakami book. I haven't stoped since, but I'm not sure why. It is not an author I like particulary but there are something appealing in his books, isn't it!? Another book by him that I liked was Sleep and the last book I read by him was Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage. I felt it laked something and the story was incompleted for me. I think he's particulary good with short stories since I didn't like 1Q84 so much.

I understand you completely I'm also like that most of the time. But after I read a book of Murakami I always want more so it's definitely an autor I can make an exception.

Oh, for me it is the exact opposite. Murakami is an author whose books I sort of let simmer in my consciousness for a while, so I end up spacing them out.

Howdy, folks!

I read in another post a couple of you might be interested in a buddy read of Fahrenheit 451.

Does anyone have a date in mind that might work for them?

message 179: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Regarding After Dark, are you planning on reading it in February or later?
I'm asking because I'll be away from home the whole month of February, and therefore need to know if I have to pack this book or not.

message 180: by Melaslithos (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments Since I had no answers, and apparently the discussion on "Sputnik Sweetheart" is not yet finished, I left without "After Dark". I hope you're fine to wait until March to read it?

Hi! I don't suppose anyone would be up for a buddy read of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children?

With the movie coming up and all might be cool to read it along and then watch the movie or vice versa.

Sorry, too many books on my shelves right now, I'd rather not buy a new one. Since I don't care much about movies, it's not really pushing me to read it right now.

Whenever you want. I am currently reading a book of short plays, so I can basically make a pause whenever you want. Although I will probably have finished it in two days.

Hello!

I was wondering if anyone would want to do a buddy read of any book on this list: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Boy do I regret picking some of those :/

message 192: by Melaslithos (last edited May 07, 2016 06:42AM) (new)

Melaslithos | 1645 comments I'm in for "The Feminine Future", "White Seed" and "Typewritter in the Sky", but not right now. I first have ~6 books I need to read before that.

Hello, folks!

Kandice and I are in a Stephen King mood.

Would any of you like to join us for a buddy read of Cujo or Joyland?

Would the first week of July be okay for you all?

message 196: by Kandice (new)

Kandice The timing works great for me. I'm also seriously up for either.

message 197: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Sorry, I don't think I will be done on time. This book is taking forever. Maybe towards the end of the first week I guess.

Either is fine for me as well, size is not an issue :) I'll just go slower than you probably but as long as we mention chapters as we comment there should be no risk of spoilers.

So, no one wants to join us?

message 198: by Kandice (new)

Kandice You just let me know when and what and I will be there! I will definitely mark chapters and spoilers.

Anyone else?

Hmm I am hoping to be done with my current one by sunday but not sure if I will be able to :S

Would you be willing to begin on monday 4th of July?
