oh i too read alot of manga and webtoons! i guess she'll love the books with quite of action and mystery with the right amount of romance and humor mashed! i haven't read that many books so i cant recc any specific, so maybe something with action as its main plot...?

Common_reader | 66 comments Mod
yes, that sounds right. i was thinking of giving her something like action or fantasy but i thought maybe fantasy would confuse her. so i think maybe i should first give her a book which isn't that "big" according to her, lol (i have friends who see a 300 page book and gasp and how i read it) and something with which she could relate. i am thinking of giving her fangirl, but considering what you said she might like the mortal instruments too. I told her about heartstoppers and she is reading it now :)

message 53: by Georgie (new)

Georgie Dawn (georgiedawn) | 2 comments Fangirl is a great suggestion as it's contemporary so won't be too overwhelming but has the little snippets of Carry On so she can get a taste of fantasy! :)

That's a really good idea!! Also I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure there is a manga version of Fangirl coming out soon.

A Court Of Thorns And Roses and Throne of Glass both by Sarah J Maas - of course, if you haven't read them already.

The Four Horsemen series by Laura Thalassa - veeery veeeeeery good on the enemies to lovers side. Also very very very good plot! BUT. It's New Adult. It has a lot of +18 scenes so be careful with it if that's not something you would like to read.

Caraval series by Stephanie Garber - it's YA

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renée Ahdieh

Didn't read it yet, but I heard Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco it's also very good

From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout (and most of Armentrout's books)
The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller
We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal
Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young

Most of Penelope Douglas' books are enemies to lovers but they are New Adult, so expect lots of spicy scenes.

message 78: by Olive (new)

Olive ✨ | 7 comments Hey! I'm looking for a fictional book series (preferably YA or come-of-age) that drags out the romance VERY slowly over several books. I've noticed a pattern over the past 6 months or so that points to the fact that I really like these types of books. It gives time for the reader to know the character without romance being thrown at their face, ya know?
Anyway, if you can't think of anything, I also love fantasy, science fiction, and basically any fiction with a touch of romance.
(And if you're looking for books that are like the ones above, reply! I'd be happy to hit you up with some of my favorites!)
Please let me know if you've thought of anything! Thank you!
:)

I enjoyed Throne Of Glass, and I think you should give it a go!! I loved it, and it had romance spread out between all the books, but it also has a great plot and story!!!

hey guys! i had an idea.

should we to BOTMs? (book of the month)

but we all will type in one book (underrated books mostly) which you think is so good but more people need to read it.

then we all can describe what the book is about or simply look up the descriptions on our own.

then the book which gets the most votes will be our BOTM!

we can have 1/2 for every month! what do you think??

message 95: by Felix (new)

Felix M. Wilde | 1 comments Hey all! Been to the library recently, borrowed a bunch of books. Now I know exactly what kinds of books I like! Problem is that when I returned and looked for more - I can rarely find what I'd like just by scrolling the shelves, as my local library doesn't sort their books by genre, writing style, or POV — at least not in their general adult reading section. They're more based on the idea that you know exactly which books you'd like when you walk in. So, I'm hoping this group can offer some guidance on a few titles I might want to search for on my next trip. Here's the genres I found that I liked during my last reading frenzy:

POV isn't a genre (at least I don't think it is), but I thought it was worth to mention that, generally, I found I really dislike reading in 1st person. If possible, I definitely prefer 3rd person, but it's not the end of the world if something is in 1st person, just a preference. I think it has something to do with the immersion experience, or maybe all the 1st person books I've read are just generally bad... But anyway, I found that I am very fond of older books, especially those who are written in the 1800s and early 1900s. They all have a certain charm to them, especially those who are from Europe. I'm also fond of Western books, — both those who are written in the Old West, and those who merely revolve around the Old West. I haven't read any yet, but I also think I'd like to read stories about the mafia, yakuza, and crime families in general, and maybe stories revolving the various wars that have happened during the last century, like WWII, WWI, the Vietnam War and the Korean War. Stories set in ancient Greece and ancient Rome also sound very intruiging. Other than that, I feel like I could happily read any story in any genre that is written in the third person. If any books at all came to your mind , I'd be very happy to hear about them so that I can check them out for my next reading frenzy. :)
